Gel stretch method: a new method to measure constitutive properties of cardiac muscle cells

Michael R. Zile、Monica Kelly Cowles、J. Michael Buckley 等 8 位作者1998-06-01American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology

Diastolic dysfunction is an important cause of congestive heart failure; however, the basic mechanisms causing diastolic congestive heart failure are not fully understood, especially the role of the cardiac muscle cell, or cardiocyte, in this process. Before the role of the cardiocyte in this pathophysiology can be de…

Reductions of Organic Functional Groups Using NaBH4OR NaBH4/LiCl in Diglyme at 125 TO 162 °C

Cangming Yang、Charles U. Pittman1998-06-01Synthetic Communications

Reduction of nitro, amide, carboxylate, ester and nitrile functional groups to -NH2, -CH2NH2, -CH2OH, -CH2OH and -CH2NCHPh, respectively were achieved using NaBH4 or NaBH4/LiCl in diglyme at 125—162 °C. This greatly extends the range of functional group types which can be considered generally reducible by borohydride.

Time‐Dependent Electrochromism of Nanocrystalline TiO2 Films in Propylene Carbonate Solution of LiClO4

Tae‐Sik Kang、Donghwan Kim、Kang‐Jin Kim1998-06-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Electrochromism of nanocrystalline films under cathodic bias in propylene carbonate containing was studied by time‐dependent absorption and fluorescence spectroscopies. The absorption spectra revealed two absorption bands near 700 and 420 nm. The absorption band near 700 nm showed a blue shift and an increase in absor…

Soft x-ray resonant magnetic reflectivity measurements on thin films and multilayers in a transverse geometry using linear polarized photons are presented. Magneto-optic calculations taking into account the layer roughness allows us to reproduce all the experimental features of the angular and energy reflectivity curv…

Molecular dynamics of the α-relaxation during crystallization of a low-molecular-weight compound: A real-time dielectric spectroscopy study

J. Dobbertin、J. Hannemann、Christoph Schick 等 5 位作者1998-06-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

Low-molecular-weight compounds often crystallizes to systems with 100% crystallinity. There are only a few examples where a small amorphous fraction, characterized by a glass transition, remains after long time crystallization from the melt. The crystallization of such a glass-forming low-molecular-weight compound was…

Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior in Mullite/Alumina Functionally Graded Ceramics

José F. Bartolomé、José S. Moya、Joaquín Requena 等 5 位作者1998-06-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Mullite/Al 2 O 3 functionally graded ceramics (FGCs) have been obtained by sequential slip casting and subsequently firing at 1650°C in air. Functionally graded layered dense (similar/congruent99% of the theoretical density) compacts, with five different layers with thickness ranging from 670 to 850 µm, were obtained.…

Extension of the primary solidification region of Nd2Fe14B by levitation of undercooled melts

R. Hermann、W. Löser1998-06-01Journal of Applied Physics

Undercooled Nd–Fe–B melts with compositions near the Nd2Fe14B phase (Φ phase) were studied by the electromagnetic levitation technique. In situ measurements of the solidification kinetics were accomplished and melt drops with controlled undercooling were quenched onto chill substrates in order to reveal the solidifica…

Priority of Pentose Utilization at the Level of Transcription: Arabinose, Xylose, and Ribose Operons

Hoyoung Kang、Seokho Song、Chankyu Park1998-06-01Molecules and Cells

When E. coli cells were grown in minimal medium supplemented with D-ribose and D-xylose, a diauxic growth preferring D-xylose was observed. Transcription of the ribose (rbs) operon was repressed in the presence of D-xylose, phenotypically similar to catabolite repression by D-glucose, although D-ribose did not affect…

Analysis of Diffuse Scattering from Single Crystals via the Reverse Monte Carlo Technique. I. Comparison with Direct Monte Carlo

T. R. Welberry、Thomas Proffen1998-06-01Journal of Applied Crystallography

The use of the reverse Monte Carlo (RMC) technique for analysing diffuse scattering data from single crystals is compared with the well established direct Monte Carlo (MC) method. Whereas in the MC method a model involving only a few interatomic interaction parameters is used, for RMC the atom coordinates themselves a…

Bernard Hehlen、Ludovic Arzel、A. K. Tagantsev 等 7 位作者1998-06-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

Brillouin scattering from transverse-acoustic modes of ${\mathrm{SrTiO}}_{3}$ is observed, while the frequencies of the soft polar modes are remeasured with hyper-Raman scattering. It is shown that an anomalous decrease of sound velocities at low temperatures results from the coupling of the strain with the gradient o…

Using the Green's function and eigenstrain method, we derived an analytical expression for the elastic displacement fields induced by a dislocation in an icosahedral quasicrystal. In this paper, we calculate the special case where the line direction of the dislocation is parallel to a fivefold axis. Combining this exp…
