Synthesis and properties of lead zinc niobate: Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3based relaxor ferroelectrics

A. Halliyal、A. Safari1994-08-01Ferroelectrics

Lead zinc niobate [PZN: Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3] and compositions in the PZN-PbTiO3 system are promising materials for capacitors and actuators because of their high dielectric constant and excellent electrostrictive properties in single crystal form. PZN is one of the few relaxor ferroelectrics with high Curie temperature o…

The effects of ultrasound irradiation on a biodegradable 50–50% copolymer of polylactic and polyglycolic acids

C. Mauli Agrawal、M. E. Kennedy、D. M. Micallef1994-08-01Journal of Biomedical Materials Research

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ultrasound irradiation on a biodegradable drug delivery system. Microporous, disk-shaped specimens of a 50-50% copolymer of polylactic and polyglycolic acids were gel cast from an acetone solution. A protein was incorporated in these specimens, which were then im…

Hybrid Monte Carlo simulations of dense polymer systems

Bruce M. Forrest、Ulrich W. Suter1994-08-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

We investigate the efficiency of two recently introduced hybrid Monte Carlo algorithms for the off-lattice simulation of dense polymer melts. Their performance is assessed both with respect to the molecular dynamics method and new single-chain Monte Carlo techniques proposed recently. Our findings show that the long-t…

Tape Casting of Fine Alumina/Zirconia Powders for Composite Fabrication

Kevin P. Plucknett、C.H. Cáceres、David S. Willinson1994-08-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Ceramic films, containing AI 2 O 3 , with up to 40 vol% ZrO 2 , have been fabricated using the tape casting process. Finer powders (average mean diameter of 250–300 nm) than have generally been reported for tape casting were used in this study. The optimum formulation for tape casting is affected substantially by decr…

Fine-Patterning of ZrO2 Thin Films by the Photolysis of Chemically Modified Gel Films

Katsuhide Shinmou、Noboru Tohge、Tsutomu Minami1994-08-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

The effects of UV irradiation on the properties of gel films prepared from Zr- n -butoxides modified with acetylacetone (AcAc) have been studied. The irradiation with UV light corresponding to the π-π * transition in the chelate ring of AcAc was found to dissociate the chelate bonds in the gel films and simultaneously…

Random fields and their influence on the phase transitions in disordered ferroelectrics

M. D. Glinchuk、V. A. Stephanovich1994-08-01Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

Calculations of the phase transition temperature and the critical concentration of electric dipoles which induce in the host crystal lattice the phase transition with the appearance of long-range order are carried out. These calculations are made by considering the additional static random electric fields owing to def…

Thermoelectric devices using semiconductor quantum wells

G. D. Mahan、H. B. Lyon1994-08-01Journal of Applied Physics

The efficiency of thermoelectric devices are analyzed for a superlattice of semiconductor quantum wells. It is assumed that the quantum wells are the thermoelectric active elements, and the layers between conduct only heat. It is shown that the efficiency of the device depends on the property of both layers.

Flexural Properties of Brittle Multilayer Materials: II, Experiments

Craig A. Folsom、Frank W. Zok、Fred F. Lange1994-08-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

An experimental investigation of the flexural properties of a variety of brittle multilayer materials has been conducted. The results have been compared with the predictions of a model presented in a companion paper. Three types of systems have been studied. The first consisted of glass sheets bonded together with a t…
