Pyrolysis of acetylene: a thermal source of vinylidene

Rocío Durán、V. T. Amorebieta、A. J. Colussi1987-05-01Journal of the American Chemical Society

We now report the results of kinetic and trapping experiments performed in acetylene/benzene and acetylene/toluene mixtures above 820 K by modulated beam dynamic mass spectrometry which provide direct evidence of vinylidene participation in chemical reactions. Under such conditions the fast equilibrium

An investigation of moisture sorption in microcrystalline cellulose using sorption isotherms and dielectric response

Faseel S. Khan、N. Pilpel1987-05-01Powder Technology

Measurements were made of the enthalpy changes, using sorption isotherms, and of the changes in dielectric response of microcrystalline cellulose discs when different amounts of water were added. The results are explained by means of a molecular model in which the water is sorbed in a step-wise process of hydrogen bon…

Solid State Carbon-13 NMR Studies of Vulcanized Elastomers. II, Sulfur Vulcanization of Natural Rubber

A. M. Zaper、Jack L. Koenig1987-05-01Rubber Chemistry and Technology

Abstract In summary, the solid-state C-13 NMR technique has proven to be a significant method for the detection of crosslinks and other structural modifications in sulfur-vulcanized NR systems. The use of sulfur as a crosslinking agent by itself generates a considerable amount of main-chain structural modifications. C…

Pore Structure and Surface Area of CsxH3−xPM12O40 (x = 0–3, M = W, Mo)

Noritaka Mizuno、Makoto Misono1987-05-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract The pore-size and particle-size distributions as well as the surface areas of Cs3PW12O40 and Cs3PMo12O40 have been determined by N2 adsorption and electron micrograph. It was first demonstrated by the quantitative comparison of these data that their micro-and/ or mesopores which gave these compounds very high…

Range extension of surface plasmons by dielectric layers

F. Y. Kou、T. Tamir1987-05-01Optics Letters

The propagation range of surface plasmons in thin-metal-film geometries can be considerably increased if a suitable dielectric layer is placed in parallel to the film. The results show that this range extension depends strongly on the separation between the metal film and the dielectric layer.

Thermal Shock Behavior of an Alumina‐SiC Whisker Composite

T. N. Tiegs、Paul Becher1987-05-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Thermal shock testing of an alumina‐20 vol% SiC whisker composite showed no decrease in flexural strength with temperature differences up to 900°C. Alumina, on the other hand, normally shows a significant decrease inflexural strength with a temperature change of >400°C. The improvement in the thermal shock resistan…

On the Polymorphism of Enstatite

William Lee、A. H. Heuer1987-05-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The polymorphism of enstatite (MgSiO 3 ) is reviewed. Three stable phases occur—clinoenstatite, orthoenstatite, and protoenstatite, being stable at low, intermediate, and elevated temperatures, respectively — and new data concerning their crystallization from synthetic glasses are summarized. The phase transformations…

A test particle model potential for formamide and molecular dynamics simulations of the liquid

Kritsana Sagarik、Reinhart Ahlrichs1987-05-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

A test particle model (T-model) potential is derived for interacting rigid formamide (HCONH2) molecules and applied in MD simulations of the liquid phase. The most important features of the dimers predicted by the T-model potential are checked by large basis set SCF calculations. The most stable dimer is the cyclic ar…

COMPUTATIONALLY EFFICIENT MODELING OF BLOCK COPOLYMER AND BENARD PATTERN FORMATIONS

Y. Oono、Yuh Shiwa1987-05-01Modern Physics Letters B

Computationally efficient discrete space-time models of spatially-ordered pattern formation dynamics (e.g., block copolymer phase separation dynamics) are proposed. Models are simple but can give sufficiently realistic spatial patterns, and their time evolution.

Effect of antiplasticization on gas sorption and transport. I. Polysulfone

Yasushi Maeda、Donald R. Paul1987-05-01Journal of Polymer Science Part B Polymer Physics

Abstract The addition of tricresyl phosphate, N ‐phenyl‐2‐naphthylamine, and 4,4′‐dichlorodiphenyl sulfone to polysulfone causes changes in thermal and mechanical properties of the glassy mixtures associated with antiplasticization, i.e., reduction in glass transition temperature and increase in stiffness. These chang…
