Negative thermal expansion and low-frequency modes in cyanide-bridged framework materials

Andrew L. Goodwin、Cameron J. Kepert2005-04-21OpenAlex

We analyze the intrinsic geometric flexibility of framework structures incorporating linear metal--cyanide--metal $(\mathrm{M}\text{--}\mathrm{CN}\text{--}{\mathrm{M}}^{\ensuremath{'}})$ linkages using a reciprocal-space dynamical matrix approach. We find that this structural motif is capable of imparting a significan…

Rare‐Earth Oxide Nanopolyhedra, Nanoplates, and Nanodisks

Rui Si、Yawen Zhang、Liping You 等 4 位作者2005-04-21OpenAlex

Thermolysis of benzoylacetonate complexes proved successful in the synthesis of rare-earth oxide nanocrystals. CeO2 nanopolyhedra, Eu2O3 nanodisks, and Pr2O3 nanoplates display 2D ordering on copper grids (see figure), and the former two show interesting optical properties arising from surface-modification effects.

Conjugated Oligomers with Terminal Donor–Acceptor Substitution

Herbert Meier2005-04-21OpenAlex

Conjugated oligomers represent a prominent class of compounds from a viewpoint of their theory, synthesis, and applications in materials science. Push-pull substitution with an electron donor D at one end of the conjugation and an electron acceptor A at the other end results in them having outstanding optical and elec…

Sub-Diffraction-Limited Optical Imaging with a Silver Superlens

Nicholas X. Fang、Hyesog Lee、Cheng Sun 等 4 位作者2005-04-21OpenAlex

Recent theory has predicted a superlens that is capable of producing sub-diffraction-limited images. This superlens would allow the recovery of evanescent waves in an image via the excitation of surface plasmons. Using silver as a natural optical superlens, we demonstrated sub-diffraction-limited imaging with 60-nanom…

The structure of x MoO 3 ·(100-x)[2 P 2 O 5 · PbO ] glass system with 0≤x≤50 mol % is investigated by IR and Raman spectroscopies. The characteristic bands of the glass matrix [2 P 2 O 5 · PbO ] and MoO 3 oxide due to the stretching and bending vibrations are identified. This allows us to identify the specific structu…

Magnetic properties of the Co–C60 and Fe–C60 nanocrystalline magnetic thin films

Lingyi Zheng、Enrique V. Barrera、Robert D. Shull2005-04-20Journal of Applied Physics

The basic magnetic properties of Co–C60 and Fe–C60 nanocrystalline magnetic thin films and the temperature effects on these properties have been investigated. Experimental results show that the Co–C60 films possess an in-plane magnetic anisotropy, but such an anisotropy is not found in the Fe–C60 films. At room temper…

Structure ofEscherichia colipyridoxine 5′-phosphate oxidase in a tetragonal crystal form: insights into the mechanistic pathway of the enzyme

Martin K. Safo、Faik N. Musayev、Verne Schirch2005-04-20Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography

Escherichia coli pyridoxine 5'-phosphate oxidase (ePNPOx) catalyzes the terminal step in the biosynthesis of pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) by the FMN oxidation of pyridoxine 5'-phosphate (PNP) or pyridoxamine 5'-phosphate (PMP), forming FMNH(2) and H(2)O(2). The crystal structure of ePNPOx is reported in a tetragonal u…

Choi, Chang-Yong;Chae, Su-Young;Kim, Tai-Hyoung;Jang, Mi-Kyeong;Cho, Chong-Su;Nah, Jae-Woon;2005-04-20Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society

Diblock copolymers with different poly(<TEX>$\varepsilon$</TEX>-caprolactone) (PCL) block lengths were synthesized by ringopening polymerization of <TEX>$\varepsilon$</TEX>-caprolactone in the presence of monomethoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG-OH, MW 2000) as initiator. The self-aggregation behaviors of the diblock c…

Wenhua Jiang、Wenwu Cao、Xiujie Yi 等 4 位作者2005-04-20Journal of Applied Physics

The elastic and piezoelectric constants of tungsten bronze ferroelectric crystals (Sr0.7Ba0.3)2NaNb5O15 (SBNN70) and (Sr0.3Ba0.7)2NaNb5O15 (SBNN30) are determined by using the ultrasonic and resonance methods. The measured results show that these single crystals have larger dielectric constant and good piezoelectric p…

van der Waals interaction of simple, parallel polymers

Jesper Kleis、Elsebeth Schröder2005-04-20The Journal of Chemical Physics

We study the mutual interactions of simple parallel polymers within the framework of density-functional theory (DFT). As the conventional implementations of DFT do not treat the long-range dispersion [van der Waals (vdW)] interactions, we develop a systematic correction scheme for the nonlocal energy contribution of t…

Predicting Adsorption Isotherms of Low-Volatile Compounds by Temperature Programmed Desorption: Iodine on Carbon

Jong‐Ho Park、Ralph T. Yang2005-04-20Langmuir

Equilibrium adsorption isotherms for low-volatile compounds are extremely difficult to measure. A simple technique using temperature programmed desorption (TPD) is proposed. It is demonstrated that the two parameters needed for constructing the Langmuir isotherm can be derived with data from the TPD technique alone. T…
