Magnetic Form Factor ofCo++Ion in Cobaltous Oxide

D. C. Khan、R. A. Erickson1970-03-01Physical review. B, Solid state

The van Laar model of the spin structure of CoO in the antiferromagnetic state is supported on the basis of neutron-diffraction data from a single crystal. Then, the magnetic form factor of the ${\mathrm{Co}}^{++}$ ion in CoO is calculated. The anisotropic part of the form factor is studied in detail to arrive at the…

Observation of Dynamic Domain Size Variation in a Silicon-Iron Alloy

T. R. Haller、John Kramer1970-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

It was recently noted that the dynamic domain structure in a ferromagnetic material may differ markedly from that observed under static conditions. In this investigation the dynamic size of magnetic domains in a rectangular single-crystal specimen of an iron-3% silicon alloy (2.5 cm×3.3 cm×0.22 mm with a (001) [100] o…

Lethal Effects of Electric Current on Escherichia coli

Alain Pareilleux、N. Sicard1970-03-01Applied Microbiology

An attempt has been made to use low-voltage alternating current to kill microorganisms such as Escherichia coli. The bactericidal effect depends on the energy passing through the suspension and on the time during which the cells are left standing in the medium after the treatment. Most of the toxicity is due to an ind…

Instability of the Motion of a Pulsating Bubble in a Sound Field

Anthony I. Eller、Lawrence A. Crum1970-03-01The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America

This paper describes two related instabilities of spherical bubbles that are set into pulsation by a sound field. One instability is the observed onset of erratic dancing by bubbles that are trapped in a standing wave. This instability occurs when the sound-pressure amplitude exceeds a threshold value, and we measured…

Effect of TiO 2 on Initial Sintering of Al 2 O 3

RODNEY D. BAGLEY、IVAN B. CUTLER、D. Lynn Johnson1970-03-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Alpha alumina with additions of TiO 2 sintered more rapidly than “pure” alumina. The rate of initial sintering increased approximately exponentially with titania concentration up to a percentage beyond which the rate of sintering remained approximately constant or decreased slightly with additional titania. The concen…

Désordre linéaire dans les cristaux (cas du silicium, du quartz, et des pérovskites ferroélectriques)

R. Comès、M. Lambert、A. Guinier1970-03-01Acta Crystallographica Section A

Many crystals produce a diffuse scattering of X-rays which is localized in a series of relplanes. It is shown that the corresponding linear disorder in the crystal may have various origins. In silicon, the scattering is due to thermal vibrations and is well explained by the elastic properties of the crystal. In neutro…

Characteristics of the Trochoidal Electron Monochromator

A. Stamatović、G. J. Schulz1970-03-01Review of Scientific Instruments

An electron monochromator for use in an axial magnetic field is described. Electrons are injected parallel to the magnetic field and an electric field is applied in a perpendicular direction. The electrons thus describe trochoids and drift in a direction perpendicular to both the electric and magnetic fields and dispe…

Core-electron binding energies for compounds of boron, carbon, and chromium

David N. Hendrickson、J.M. Hollander、William L. Jolly1970-03-01Inorganic Chemistry

Boron 1~ and chromium 3E binding energies have been measured for 25 boron compounds and 17 chromium compounds. The data correlate linearly with calculated atomic charges.A linear correlation is also demonstrated for CNDO~calculated atomic charges and carbon 1~ binding energies determined by other workers.
