Bending properties and transformation temperatures of heat treated Ni‐Ti alloy wire for orthodontic appliances

T. Yoneyama、Hisashi Doi、Hitoshi Hamanaka 等 5 位作者1993-03-01Journal of Biomedical Materials Research

The effect of heat treatment temperature on bending properties and transformation temperatures of a Ni-Ti alloy wire, 1.0 mm in diameter, was investigated so that superelasticity could be used in orthodontic appliances needing shape memory processes. The heat treatment process was at 713 K for 1.8 ks and between 673 K…

Calcium-zinc and calcium-cadmium exchange in suspensions of various types of clays

R. Van Bladel、Henri Halen、P. Cloos1993-03-01Clay Minerals

Abstract Calcium-cadmium and calcium-zinc exchange equilibria were studied at 20°C and constant ionic strength (0·015) on four clay minerals, viz. montmorillonite, bentonite, illite and vermiculite. Vermiculite and, to a lesser extent, illite and bentonite showed the strongest affinity for Cd 2+ or Zn 2+ over Ca 2+ io…

A new high temperature modification of face-centered cubic Y 2 O 3

S. Katagiri、N. Ishizawa、F. Marumo1993-03-01Powder Diffraction

A new high temperature form of Y 2 O 3 has been synthesized at 2220 °C by a laser beam heating technique. The new form has a face-centered cubic structure with a = 5.2644(3)Å, Z = 2, D x = 5.14 g/cm 3 , and is considered to have a fluorite-type structure containing disordered oxygen vacancies.

Dissolution and Repassivation Kinetics of Fe‐Cr Alloys in Pit Solutions: I . Effect of the Surface Salt Layer

Unni Steinsmo、Hugh S. Isaacs1993-03-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

A study of the dissolution and repassivation of an Fe‐17.4 a/o Cr alloy in a pencil‐type artificial pit simulating one‐dimensional diffusion, has been carried out in a chloride‐containing bulk solution. The attainment of saturation of dissolution products within the artificial pit was characterized by the formation of…

Forming process and stability of bubble domains in dielectrically positive cholesteric liquid crystals

S. Pirkl、Philippe Ribière、P. Oswald1993-03-01Liquid Crystals

The nucleation of bubble domains in homeotropic samples of a dielectrically positive cholesteric liquid crystal is described. These domains are found to be more stable in an electric field than the rectilinear double-twisted fingers. The electric field-induced transformation of a looped finger into a bubble domain is…

A Quasi-Static Penetration Model for Composite Laminates

S. W. Ricky Lee、C. T. Sun1993-03-01Journal of Composite Materials

A quasi-static model was developed to simulate the penetration process of composite lammates. The penetrator was blunt-ended. A series of static punch tests were conducted to characterize the load-displacement relation during penetration. The damage mechanisms were identified by DIB enhanced X-radiography and microsco…

Pitch diversity in α‐helical coiled coils

John Seo、Carolyn Cohen1993-03-01Proteins Structure Function and Bioinformatics

Two complementary methods for measuring local pitch based on heptad position in alpha-helical coiled coils are described and applied to six crystal structures. The results reveal a diversity of pitch values: two-stranded coiled coils appear to have pitch values near 150 A; the values for three- and four-stranded coile…

The occurrence of a critical point in lyotropic smectic liquid crystal is experimentally evidenced by neutron and X-ray small-angle scattering experiments. In the vicinity of the critical point in the ( c-T ) phase diagram of a true binary system, we observe: 1) broadening of the Bragg peak of the coexisting lamellar…
