Abstract The pyrolysis of linear dimethylpolysiloxanes was investigated by weight loss studies in vacuum over the temperature range 360–540°C. Rate maxima were observed at 14–16% weight loss; these were attributed to the presence of ionizable impurities in the polymer molecules.
