Abstract Butyl rubber (polyisobutylene‐co‐isoprene) mixed with polyisobutylene was crosslinked to yield elastomeric macromolecular networks containing dissolved linear macromolecules. Adhesion of these materials to themselves (self‐adhesion) and to an inert substrate was investigated over a wide range of peel rates an…

A three‐component glass system (Mg–Al–Si) was nitrided by adding amorphous and crystalline Si 3 N 4 . Glasses with varying amounts of nitrogen were melted, and their mechanical properties were measured. Density, hardness, Young's elastic modulus, and fracture toughness increased with increasing nitrogen content.

Abstract Thirty‐five polymethacrylate/chlorinated polymer blends were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. Poly(ethyl), poly( n ‐propyl), poly( n ‐butyl), and poly( n ‐amyl methacrylate)s were found to be miscible with poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), chlorinated PVC, and Saran, but immiscible with a chlorina…

The anaerobic proteins of maize are a set of 10 major and 10 minor polypeptides selectively synthesized in anaerobic seedling roots. 1) Anaerobiosis resulted in the selected labeling of a protein which bound to Blue Sepharose and was eluted by fructose 1,6-diphosphate. 2) This protein elicited antiserum which recogniz…

The orientational order of the α,ω-bis(4,4′-cyanobiphenyloxy)alkanes, new nematogens with a flexible core linking two rigid groups has been studied using deuterium N.M.R. spectroscopy. The order parameter for the para-axis of the cyanobiphenyl group, determined at the nematic-isotropic transition, is found to be consi…

Abstract —Human cells of the line NHIK 3025 were labelled with hematoporphyrin derivative (Hpd) or Photofrin II (PII). Absorption and fluorescence excitation spectra of cell‐bound porphyrins were recorded. Furthermore, the corresponding action spectra for photoinactivation of the cells were determined in the spectral…
