High strength nylon micro‐ and nanofiber based nonwovens via spunbonding

Nataliya Fedorova、Behnam Pourdeyhimi2007-03-08Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract In this study we explore the feasibility of using of islands‐in‐the‐sea (I/S) fibers in the spunbond process to produce relatively high strength micro‐ and nanofiber webs. The relationships between the number of islands, percent polymer composition, and the fiber and fabric properties are reported. Nylon 6 (N…

Srivatsan Kidambi、Natasha Udpa、S. Schroeder 等 6 位作者2007-03-08Tissue Engineering

This article demonstrates that the micro-topography of the surface with respect to the pattern size and pitch influences cell adhesion and proliferation. Extensive research has shown the dependence of cell proliferation on substrate chemistry, but the influence of substrate topography on cell attachment has only recen…

Spectral Degeneracy Breaking of the Plasmon Resonance of Single Metal Nanoparticles by Nanoscale Near-Field Photopolymerization

Hicham Ibn El Ahrach、Renaud Bachelot、Alexandre Vial 等 7 位作者2007-03-08Physical Review Letters

We report on controlled nanoscale photopolymerization triggered by enhanced near fields of silver nanoparticles excited close to their dipolar plasmon resonance. By anisotropic polymerization, symmetry of the refractive index of the surrounding medium was broken: C infinity v symmetry turned to C2v symmetry. This allo…

Photoinduced Superparamagnetism in Trimetallic Coordination Nanoparticles

Daniela Brinzei、Laure Catala、Corine Mathonière 等 7 位作者2007-03-08Journal of the American Chemical Society

Trimetallic CuNiMo(CN) 8 coordination nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution around 3 nm were obtained. A photoinduced superparamagnetic behavior was evidenced at low temperature by microSQUID studies. The relaxation studies reveal a behavior similar to that observed for single-molecule magnets (SMMs).

Linear and Branched Architectures from the Polymerization of Lactide with Glycidol

Louis M. Pitet、Sukhendu Hait、Tim J. Lanyk 等 4 位作者2007-03-08Macromolecules

Samples of polylactide (PLA) were synthesized by initiating lactide ring opening with glycidol using Sn(Oct) 2 catalyst. Under low-temperature solution polymerization conditions, epoxide ring opening is precluded, leading to predominately linear epoxide capped PLA. With high-temperature bulk polymerization, simultaneo…

Structure and Kinetics of Monofunctional Proline Dehydrogenase from Thermus thermophilus

Tommi White、Navasona Krishnan、Donald Becker 等 4 位作者2007-03-08Journal of Biological Chemistry

Proline dehydrogenase (PRODH) and Delta(1)-pyrroline-5-carboxylate dehydrogenase (P5CDH) catalyze the two-step oxidation of proline to glutamate. They are distinct monofunctional enzymes in all eukaryotes and some bacteria but are fused into bifunctional enzymes known as proline utilization A (PutA) in other bacteria.…

New Solvents for Cellulose: Dimethyl Sulfoxide/Ammonium Fluorides

Sarah Köhler、Thomas Heinze2007-03-08Macromolecular Bioscience

New solvents based on DMSO in combination with alkylammonium fluorides, in particular TBAF . 3H(2)O and BTMAF . H(2)O, were established as media for homogeneous functionalization of cellulose. Even DMSO in combination with freshly prepared, anhydrous TBAF, obtained by the reaction of tetrabutylammonium cyanide and hex…

Blends of chitosan and biodegradable synthetic aliphatic polyesters (polycaprolactone, poly(butylene succinate), poly[(butylene succinate)-co-adipate], poly[(butylene terephthalate)-co-adipate], and poly(lactic acid)) were injection-molded. These samples were immersed in isotonic solution at 37 degrees C for a period…

Surface accumulation conduction controlled sensing characteristic of p-type CuO nanorods induced by oxygen adsorption

C Wang、Xianwei Fu、Xinyu Xue 等 5 位作者2007-03-08Nanotechnology

P-type CuO nanorods were synthesized by a hydrothermal method and the ethanol-sensing properties of sensors based on CuO were investigated. The sensor resistance increased when it was exposed to ethanol and decreased in the air, which is contrary to the case for sensors realized from n-type semiconductor. The resistan…

Annealing Effects on the Physical Properties of Electrodeposited ZnO/CdSe Core−Shell Nanowire Arrays

Ramón Tena‐Zaera、A. Katty、Stéphane Bastide 等 4 位作者2007-03-08Chemistry of Materials

Annealing effects on the physical properties of ZnO/CdSe core−shell nanowires have been analyzed in the range of 150−400 °C. Annealing at temperatures higher than 350 °C induce a structural transition in nanocrystalline CdSe nanowire shell, from cubic zinc blende to hexagonal wurtzite structure. This transition takes…

A Very High Fraction of Unique Intron Positions in the Intron-Rich Diatom Thalassiosira pseudonana Indicates Widespread Intron Gain

Scott William Roy、David Penny2007-03-08Molecular Biology and Evolution

Although spliceosomal introns are present in all characterized eukaryotes, intron numbers vary dramatically, from only a handful in the entire genomes of some species to nearly 10 introns per gene on average in vertebrates. For all previously studied intron-rich species, significant fractions of intron positions are s…

Abstract Stepwise solid‐state reaction between LiNH 2 and LiAlH 4 at a molar ratio of 2:1 is investigated in this paper. It is observed that approximately four H atoms are evolved from a mixture of LiNH 2 –LiAlH 4 (2:1) after mechanical ball milling. The transformation of tetrahedral [AlH 4 ] – in LiAlH 4 to the octah…

Transverse transport in graphite

M. P. Lopez-Sancho、M. A. H. Vozmediano、F. Guinea2007-03-08arXiv

Spin transverse force and quantum transverse transport

Bin Zhou、Shun-Qing Shen2007-03-08arXiv

We present a brief review on spin transverse force, which exerts on the spin as the electron is moving in an electric field. This force, analogue to the Lorentz force on electron charge, is perpendicular to the electric field and spin current carried by the electron. The force stems from the spin-orbit coupling of ele…
