An Explanation for the "Two Fiber Axes" Problem in Human Enamel by X-ray Diffraction

Fumio Hirota1986-07-01Journal of Dental Research

Since Thewlis found the "two fiber axes" patterns on x-ray diffractograms of human enamel in 1934, many investigators have studied this problem. However, a definite answer has not yet been obtained. The present detailed x-ray diffraction study showed that the "two fiber axes" patterns in human enamel were caused by re…

Carbon Black Treadwear Ratings from Laboratory Tests

E. M. Dánnenberg1986-07-01Rubber Chemistry and Technology

Abstract It has been seen from the above survey that a few of the treadwear predictor correlations have the required accuracy to provide a satisfactory alternative to road testing of tires for the wear performance of carbon blacks, depending on requirements and circumstances. Correlations based on laboratory rubber te…

The Amorphous to Crystalline Transformation of Anodic Aluminum Oxide during Anodization in an Ammonium Citrate Electrolyte

Gudrun A. Hutchins、C. T. Chen1986-07-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

The growth of crystalline anodic aluminum oxide during anodization in an aqueous ammonium citrate electrolyte has been investigated. Crystalline sites were observed to nucleate only during the early growth of the oxide film, and their number was dependent upon the electrolyte temperature and the crystallographic orien…

An Assessment of Clinch River Breeder Reactor Core Disruptive Accident Energetics

T.G. Theofanous、C.R. Bell1986-07-01Nuclear Science and Engineering

A methodology is developed for the evaluation of the energetic consequences of postulated core disruptive accidents (CDAs), in liquid-metal fast breeder reactors. The methodology provides a framework for integrating the results of mechanistic analyses, including whole-core simulations (SAS, SIMMER), special effects an…

Spectroscopic Photoresponse of the Passive Film Formed on Iron

Kazuhisa Azumi、Toshiaki Ohtsuka、Norio Sato1986-07-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Spectroscopic photoresponse of the passive film formed on iron in neutral borate solution was studied. The spectroscopic three parameter reflectometry and the photoelectrochemical technique were employed to obtain the spectra of absorption coefficient and photocurrent. From these spectra, a conversion efficiency, η, f…

Pressure and Squeeze Effects on the Dynamic Characteristics of Elastomer O-Rings Under Small Reciprocating Motion

I. Green、I. Etsion1986-07-01Journal of Tribology

A test procedure is described by which quick measurements of stiffness and damping coefficients of elastomer O-rings can be made for a wide range of the parameters affecting O-ring dynamics. Tests were performed to investigate the effects of squeeze and pressure on the dynamic characteristics of Nitrile (Buna N) and F…

Diffusion of iron in copper studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy on single crystals

Karl Steinmetz、G. Vogl、W. Petry 等 4 位作者1986-07-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

The broadening of the $^{57}\mathrm{Fe}$ M\"ossbauer line due to diffusion jumps of iron atoms in a copper single crystal has been measured as a function of crystal orientation and temperature between 1060 and 1313 K. The results are the following: (i) The anisotropy of the broadening agrees with what is expected for…

Cancer mortality among leather tanners.

Christer Edling、H.F. Kling、Ulf Flodin 等 4 位作者1986-07-01Occupational and Environmental Medicine

Workers were studied at a tannery that operated from 1873 to 1960, once one of the biggest in Scandinavia. The results show a slight numerical increase of deaths from cancer of the stomach and a significant, threefold excess mortality from cancer of the pancreas. Even in view of critical questions about validity it se…

Kuninobu Kasuga、Munenori Ando、Hideharu Morimoto 等 4 位作者1986-07-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract Phthalocyanine complexes of yttrium(III) and lanthanoid(III) ions, Pc3Ln2 (Pc = phthalocyanine anion, Ln = lanthanoid(III) cation) were prepared and characterized. A Q band undergoes a blue shift with a decrease in ionic radius of the lanthanoid(III) ions, while an X band undergoes a red shift.

10 eV photon detector for inverse photoemission

D. Funnemann、H. Merz1986-07-01Journal of Physics E Scientific Instruments

An energy-selective photon detector for inverse photoemission spectroscopy is described. The bandpass is effected by the transmission cut-off of a CaF2 window and the ionisation threshold of an acetone filling. The detected mean photon energy is E0=9.9 eV with an energy resolution Delta E=0.4 eV (FWHM). With this dete…
