Abstract When heated to high temperatures under zero tension, some of the molecules in oriented nylon 66 filters change from the elongated to the folded conformation, with no change in crystal orientation. This transformation is shown by a combination of structural and physical property measurements: wide and small an…

Abstract An attempt was made to evaluate the apparent elastic constant of a two‐phase system G from those of the components of the system. The modulus G is expressed as follows: where G 1 and G 2 are the shear moduli of the suspending medium and the suspended particles, respectively, v 1 is the Poisson ratio of the me…

A model for F-centre production in alkali halides by ionizing radiation is discussed. The energy required for the formation of the defect is given to an anion in the radiationless recombination of an electron and a hole, which takes place via an exciton state. The primary products of this mechanism are negative ion in…

Abstract Measurements of the thermoelectric power, transverse Nernst‐Ettinghausen effect, conductivity, and Hall effect allow the concentration and temperature dependence of the electronic effective mass m * to be calculated for crystals of the solid solution (InSb) x (InTe) 1—x (for × = 1 to 0.85) in the temperature…

Eleven amine complexes of zinc benzothiazole-2-thiolate have been prepared from the ammonia complex. Dissociation of the pyridine complex provides a convenient route to the thiolate, which is difficult to prepare by other methods.

Abstract Summarizing investigations on the solubility, nucleation and growth of NaCl in presence of K 4 Fe(CN) 6 are reported. Raising the contents of K 4 Fe(CN) 6 induces at first the formation of cubes, then skeletal forms and finally suppression of nucleation and growth for the duration of the experiment. Secondary…

Stress corrosion in titanium is caused by complex oxidation reactions. Reaction products were identified by X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry, and gas chromatography. Chlorine gas was identified as an intermediate and regenerable reaction product that has a strong tendency to crack titanium. No reaction occurs if o…

The thermal behaviour of the two crystalline forms of germanium dioxide has been investigated by differential thermal analysis. Small amounts of lithium increase the rate of transformation. The enthalpy and entropy of transformation have been estimated as 5·05 ± 0·6 kcal. mole–1 and 3·9 ± 0·5 e.u., and the enthalpy of…

The thermal decomposition of iron(II), cobalt(II), and nickel(II) hydroxides has been investigated; kinetic parameters were obtained by isothermal and non-isothermal methods. The activation energies for the decomposition lie within the range 17–26 kcal./mole, in good agreement with values reported for the structurally…

A variety of linear tetrapyrrolic systems is described, all of which fail to yield macrocyclic compounds under conditions in which porphyrins are obtained from the appropriate 1,19-dideoxybiladienes-ac.
