The characterization of dislocation loops in neutron irradiated zirconium

Patrick Kelly、Robert G. Blake1973-08-01Philosophical magazine

Dislocation loops formed in zirconium after neutron irradiation and subsequent annealing between 450° and 500°C are not pure edge loops. A general method for analysing such loops by transmission electron microscopy is discussed briefly and a technique for determining the loop plane normal to within ± 5° is described.…

Stress–strain behavior of polyolefin blends

Richard E. Robertson、D. R. Paul1973-08-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

As part of a study on reuse of plastics as blends, the yield tensile strength, elongation at break, and the modulus of melt blends of low-density polyethylene, high-density polyethylene, and polypropylene have been studied over the entire ternary composition range. The modulus and strength are nearly monotonic functio…

Anharmonic Effects in KTa O 3 : Ferroelectric Mode, Thermal Expansion, and Compressibility

G. A. Samara、B. Morosin1973-08-01Physical review. B, Solid state

The effects of temperature and pressure on the static dielectric constant and lattice parameter of KTa${\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ have been measured. Combined with literature data, the present results allow a determination of the pressure and temperature dependence of the soft-ferroelectric-mode frequency ${\ensuremath{\omega}…

General SCF operator satisfying correct variational condition

Kimihiko Hirao、H. Nakatsuji1973-08-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

We have shown that the correct variational equations for the general SCF orbitals are [Fi−Σj |ψj〉 〈 ψj |Gji] |ψi〉=0, where Gji=λjiFj+(1−λji)Fi; λji≠ 0 and how these may be combined into simple eigenvalue problems. In the course of discussions, we re-examined whether the coupling operators suggested previously are base…

On the Theory of Hopping Transport in Disordered Semiconductors

I. P. Zvyagin1973-08-01physica status solidi (b)

Abstract The electron hopping in presence of both an electric field and a temperature gradient is considered. Expressions for the transport coefficients are obtained, and the temperature dependence of the hopping thermopower is discussed for different temperature regions.

SYNTHESIS OF NEW HYDROTALCITE-LIKE COMPOUNDS AND THEIR PHYSICO-CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

Shigeo Miyata、Teruhiko Kumura1973-08-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract The new hydrotalcite-like compounds which consist of divalent metal, trivalent metal and inorganic or organic anion were synthesized and it was found that they have many characteristic properties such as the formation of solid solutions, anion exchange and molecular sieving. Some of them were capable of separ…

Influence of Grain Size on Effects of Thermal Expansion Anisotropy in MgTi 2 O 5

J. A. Kuszyk、R. C. Bradt1973-08-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Properties relating to the effects of thermal expansion anisotropy were measured as functions of grain size in hot‐pressed dense MgTi 2 O 5 . Samples with grains smaller than ∼3 μm exhibited none of the microcracking attributed to thermal expansion anisotropy, whereas those with larger grains had all the characteristi…

Depolarization fields in thin ferroelectric films

R. R. Mehta、B. D. Silverman、J. T. Jacobs1973-08-01OpenAlex

A mechanism is proposed to explain depolarization phenomena that have been observed in thin ferroelectric films and related multilayer devices. It is shown that, for a short-circuited electrode-ferroelectric structure, incomplete compensation of the ferroelectric polarization charge results when the center of gravity…

New Ferroelastic-Ferroelectric Compound: Tanane

D. Bordeaux、Jean Bornarel、A. Capiomont 等 6 位作者1973-07-30Physical Review Letters

We report here evidence for the first paraferroelectric transition observed in a pure molecular solid (without H bonds); we present results from x-ray diffraction, calorimetric and dielectric measurements, and direct optical observation of domain-wall displacement under an applied electric field.

Cs and H2adsorption on W(100)

C.A. Papageorgopoulos、J M Chen1973-07-23Journal of Physics C Solid State Physics

By using LEED and workfunction measurements it has been found that a previously reported c(2*2) structure for Cs on W(100) was due to a small amount of H accumulated on the surface at the beginning of Cs deposition. These H atoms, in the presence of Cs, form patches of c(2*2).

The phase transitions of PrAlO3

R. T. Harley、W. Hayes、A M Perry 等 4 位作者1973-07-23Journal of Physics C Solid State Physics

PrAlO 3 has the cubic perovskite structure at high temperatures but is trigonally distorted at room temperature. At about 200 K it undergoes a first-order phase transition to an orthogonal phase, and there is a further phase transition to a triclinic phase at about 150 K. The authors have studied this system by Raman…

Critical Resistivity near an Order-Disorder Transition

G. A. Thomas、A. B. Giray、R. D. Parks1973-07-23Physical Review Letters

An anomaly in the electrical resistivity is observed in the vicinity of the order-disorder transition in an alloy of composition near ${\mathrm{Fe}}_{3}$Al, which is of the form predicted by Suezaki and Mori for antiferromagnets and, hence, order-disorder systems. The anomaly is qualitatively different from the "ferro…
