Computer-aided tissue engineering enables the fabrication of multifunctional scaffolds that meet the structural, mechanical, and nutritional requirements based on optimized models. In this chapter, three-dimensional printing technology is described, and several limitations in the current direct printing approach are d…
Luminescent imaging agents and MRI contrast agents are desirable components in the rational design of multifunctional nanoconstructs for biological imaging applications. Luminescent biocompatible silicon quantum dots (SiQDs) and gadolinium chelates can be applied for fluorescence microscopy and MRI, respectively. Here…
A solution method for preparing surface functionalized colloidal silicon quantum dots (SiQDs) is presented. SiQDs prepared by this method are reasonably monodispersed and can be further functionalized via thiol-ene click reactions to introduce specific functionalities (i.e. -NH(2), -COOH, -SO(3)(-), alkane, alkene).
A commercial iron oxide support is compared with Fe2O3 samples prepared by decomposition of iron nitrate, at 300 °C and 500 °C and heating times varying from 30 min to 96 h in N2. Different methods were used for gold deposition, namely double impregnation (DIM), liquid phase reductive deposition (LPRD) and ultrasonica…
The study of NaCl particle-induced atmospheric corrosion is facilitated by in situ Raman spectroscopic analysis through real time identification of corrosion products.Droplet formation on carbon steel by the deliquescence of pre-deposited NaCl particles that were exposed to high relative humidity (RH) (>80%), and corr…
In this work, Ni(2+)-modified gold nanoclusters were fabricated for fluorescence turn-on detection of histidine. The fluorescence of Au NCs was first quenched by Ni(2+). Then, the addition of histidine can restore the fluorescence of Au NCs by binding with Ni(2+) and removing it from the surface of the Au NCs. This ar…
Chirality-controlled synthesis of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is a prerequisite for their practical applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices. We report here a novel bimetallic CoPt catalyst for the selective growth of high quality SWCNTs with a narrow chirality distribution at relatively high…
The relaxation dynamics of electronically excited [Au(25)(SR)(18)](q), where q = 0 or -1 and SR = S(CH(2))(2)Ph, were studied using femtosecond time-resolved transient absorption spectroscopy. Nanoclusters excited by 400 nm light were probed using temporally delayed broad-bandwidth continuum probe pulses. Continuum pu…
The corrosion inhibitive effects of 2-(4-methylphenyl)-1,4-dihydroquinoxaline (Q1) on carbon steel surface in hydrochloric acid solution was studied using weight loss measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), Tafel polarization techniques and quantum chemical approach, using the density functional th…
In the past decade, there has been an increasing interest in supramolecular systems that can undergo physical or chemical tranformations upon encountering a specific stimulus. Micelle-forming amphiphilic systems based on polymers and dendrimers are particularly preferred over small molecule amphiphiles, due to their a…
Using ZnO seed layers, an efficient approach for enhancing the heterointerface quality of electrodeposited ZnO–Cu2O solar cells is devised. We introduce a sputtered ZnO seed layer followed by the sequential electrodeposition of ZnO and Cu2O films. The seed layer is employed to control the growth and crystallinity and…
In this paper, on the basis of a simple side-by-side co-electrospray procedure with a subsequent non-equilibrium calcination process, we have for the first time developed an asymmetric shrinkage approach for the fabrication of magnetic γ-Fe(2)O(3)/TiO(2) Janus hollow bowls (JHBs) by constructing a precursor solution p…
A novel method for the topological description of high nuclearity coordination clusters (CCs) was improved and applied to all compounds containing only manganese as a metal center, the data on which are collected in the CCDC (CCDC 5.33 Nov. 2011). Using the TOPOS program package that supports this method, we identifie…
We reported the fabrication of a highly flexible, sensitive, and excellent reproducible photo-detector based on flexible nanoparticle-assembled ZnO cloth, which was synthesized via a carbon cloth templated hydrothermal method. The conductance of the device increased more than 600 times after UV irradiation. The respon…
An efficient and general strategy for the dispersion of multi-walled carbon nanotubes in water and organic media was developed for the first time via the combination of mussel-inspired chemistry and the Michael addition reaction.
Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT/PSS) was synthesized by oxidative polymerization and pH dependence of structure and electrical conductivity of the cast films were investigated by means of UV-vis-NIR, XRD, AFM analyses, and four-point technique. It was found that the neutrali…
The electrochemical corrosion behavior of magnetron sputtered nanocrystalline (NC) 304 stainless steel (ss) thin film as well as that of the conventional rolled coarse crystalline (CC) 304ss has been studied in 0.05 M H 2 SO 4 + 0.2 M NaCl solution using electrochemical and imaging techniques. The experimental results…
A novel greener method to impregnate silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) into microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) by curry leaf (Murraya koenigii) extract mediated biological process is presented. The active reduction of silver ions by curry leaf extract was explored for the in situ impregnation AgNPs into MCC. Transmission ele…
A series of zinc silylamido complexes bearing claw-type multidentate aminophenolate ligands, [LZnN(SiMe(3))(2)] (L = -OAr(1)-CH(2)N[(CH(2))(n)NR(2)]CH(2)Ar(2), n = 2 or 3; R = Me or Et (1a-3a, 5a, 7a and 8a); L = -OC(6)H(2)-4,6-(t)Bu(2)-2-CH(2)N[(CH(2))(2)OMe](2) (9a)), have been synthesized via the reaction of Zn[N(S…
