Abstract The oxidation of three types of uranium dioxide (UO 2 ) material has been investigated in the 120—360° range. In UO 2 powders, of surface area greater than about 2 m. 2 /g., oxidation was diffusion‐controlled up to U 3 O 7 which oxidised to U 3 O 8 above about 240°. The activation energies were in the range 2…
Self-diffusion measurements have been made in the temperature range 1000°c to 1550°c in order to resolve some uncertainties arising from previously published data from several separate investigations covering various parts of this range. A normal Arrhenius type of temperature dependence has been found, indicating the…

The temperature dependence of the rate of growth of PbTiO 2 crystals from a PbO‐B 2 O 3 ‐TiO 2 glass was experimentally determined. The Brown‐Ginell equation describing the temperature dependence of the growth rate provided an excellent fit for the data. The activation energy for the growth of PbTiO 3 crystals was 34…
The absorption spectrum of anthracene single crystal was measured in the range from 3950 A to 4400 A, i.e., the long wave-length tail of A 1 g – B 2 u transition. For the change of temperature from -180°C to 80°C, the absorption increases markedly both for a- and b-polarized light. The contour in the absorption tail c…

The solid solubility and order-disorder relations in the systems $$BaCO_{3}-SrCO_{3}, SrCO_{3}-CaCO_{3}$$, and were investigated at temperatures of from 400° to 1,000° C. with sufficient $$CO_{2}$$ pressure to prevent decomposition of any carbonates involved. Accurate numerical calculations are presented for the energy and angular dependence of the cross sections and polarizations of electrons scattered by mercury in the energy region 100 to 2000 eV. The results are compared with experiment and found to be in good agreement.
Abstract Mittels Drehkristall‐ und W EISSENBERG ‐Aufnahmen werden die Abmessungen der Elementarzelle und die Ebenenstatistik bestimmt.
A new method is proposed for the calculation from first principles of the formation and migration energy of a vacancy or interstitial in covalent crystals. The formation energy of a point imperfection is given by the change in the electrostatic energy of the system of ions arising from the point defect plus the change…

Abstract The crosslinking of ethylene-propylene rubber by means of cumyl peroxide has been followed in detail. The overall crosslinking efficiency has been found to be about 0.4 crosslinks per peroxide molecule, and this result has been shown by stress relaxation and permanent set experiments to result from a mixture…
Measurements of the decay of magnetic permeability with time after demagnetization have been performed on Fe—17 at.% Al. Measurements were obtained over the range of 360° to 475°C, with a wire specimen acting as the core of an open-end transformer. The decay curves could be separated analytically into two components,…
A thorough knowledge and a very close check of the parameters affecting the characteristics of the deposits enable one to obtain zero Ni-Fe deposits having zero magnetostriction. Addition of Cu to Ni-Fe deposits makes it possible to double the tolerances imposed upon these parameters and to improve the magnetic proper…
We have studied the variation of the Curie temperature θf and the spontaneous magnetization σs of several transition metals and some of their solid solutions as a function of the pressure. The measurements were carried out between 77° and 700°K. In the system Ni–Si, dθf/dp varies from 0.32×10−3 °K bar−1 for pure nicke…
Simultaneous and independent measurements have been made of the magnitude and direction of the lattice twist and of the direction of the Burgers vector of the axial dislocations in filamentary crystals of AlN, using electron microscopy and electron diffraction. The twist was revealed by extinction contours from reflec…
Summary When crocidolite (fibrous riebeckite, Na 2 Fe 3+ 2 Fe 2+ 2·6 Mg 0·4 Si 8 O 22 (OH) 2 approx.) is heated in argon or nitrogen at 50–400°C, uncombined water is lost. The tensile strength drops sharply at 300–400°C. At 500–600°C under static, or 570–700°C under dynamic conditions, an endothermic dehydroxylation y…
