We have studied the magnetic and electrical properties of LaySr1−yTi0.9Fe0.1O3−δ films for compositions where y=0, 0.2, 0.5, and 0.7. All the films exhibited room temperature ferromagnetism with a magnetic moment ranging from 0.7 μB/Fe to 0.2 μB/Fe. The SrTi0.9Fe0.1O3−δ (y=0) sample is an insulator with a small polaro…

The influence of interaction geometry on the obstacle strength of voids and copper precipitates in iron

Panagiotis Grammatikopoulos、David Bacon、Yu.N. Osetsky2010-12-15Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering

Interaction between a 1/21 1 1{1 1 0} edge dislocation and voids or coherent bcc Cu precipitates (diameter D = 2 or 4 nm) in Fe with their centre displaced by ±Δz from the dislocation glide plane is investigated by computer simulation for temperature T = 0 to 450 K. Voids provide the highest critical stress, τc, when…

Concentrated water−alkaline solutions of sodium and potassium borohydrides are used as a fuel and as a hydrogen source in hydrogen power engineering, including low-temperature fuel cells, where borohydrides are converted into metaborates. The performance of such mixtures is determined by the solubility of their compon…

Spectroscopic studies of the origin of radiation-induced degradation in phosphorus-doped optical fibers and preforms

G. Origlio、Fabrizio Messina、Stéphane Girard 等 6 位作者2010-12-15Journal of Applied Physics

In this paper, we study the radiation-induced point defects related to the phosphorus element that is commonly used to improve the optical properties of silica-based glasses but is responsible of a dramatic increase in their radiation sensitivity. To this aim, the influence of x-ray irradiation on prototype phosphorus…

Effect of graphene oxide nanomaterial in electroclinic liquid crystals

Arun Malik、Amit Choudhary、Poonam Silotia 等 6 位作者2010-12-15Journal of Applied Physics

The collective dielectric relaxation studies have been carried out on the electroclinic liquid crystals (ELCs) doped with 0.1 to 0.2 wt % of graphene oxide (GO) in the frequency range of 20 Hz to 1 MHz. The GO favors for a good quality vertical alignment without any surface treatment of the substrates. The coupling of…

Magnetic-field-induced recovery strain in polycrystalline Ni–Mn–Ga foam

Markus Chmielus、Cassie Witherspoon、Robert C. Wimpory 等 8 位作者2010-12-15Journal of Applied Physics

Recently, we have shown that a polycrystalline Ni–Mn–Ga magnetic shape-memory alloy, when containing two populations of pore sizes, shows very high magnetic-field-induced strain of up to 8.7%. Here, this double-porosity sample is imaged by x-ray microtomography, showing a homogenous distribution of both pore populatio…

Langmuir−Blodgett Films and Chiroptical Switch of an Azobenzene-Containing Dendron Regulated by the in Situ Host−Guest Reaction at the Air/Water Interface

Pengfei Duan、Long Qin、Minghua Liu2010-12-15Langmuir

An amphiphilic dendron containing an azobenzene ring at the focal point and the l-glutamate peripheral groups was designed. Its monolayer formation and host-guest reaction with cyclodextrins at the air/water interface and the properties of the transferred Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films were investigated. The individual…

Amide Proton Transfer Imaging of the Human Brain

Jinyuan Zhou2010-12-15Methods in molecular biology

Amide proton transfer (APT) imaging is a new MRI technique that detects endogenous mobile proteins and peptides in tissue via saturation of the amide protons in the peptide bonds. Initial studies have shown promise in detecting tumor and stroke, but this technique was hampered by magnetic field inhomogeneity and a low…

Study of composition dependent structural, optical, and magnetic properties of Cu-doped Zn1−xCdxS nanoparticles

Amit Kumar Chawla、Sonal Singhal、Sandeep Nagar 等 5 位作者2010-12-15Journal of Applied Physics

Cu-doped Zn1−xCdxS nanoparticles were synthesized by coprecipitation technique in ice bath at 280 K. The band gap energy of Zn1−xCdxS:Cu nanoparticles can be tuned to a lower energy by increasing the Cd content, indicating the formation of the alloyed nanoparticles. The alloy structure is further supported by the syst…

Amyloid Formation from an α‐Helix Peptide Bundle Is Seeded by 310‐Helix Aggregates

Yogendra Singh、Philip C. Sharpe、Huy N. Hoang 等 7 位作者2010-12-15Chemistry - A European Journal

Transformation of proteins and peptides to fibrillar aggregates rich in β sheets underlies many diseases, but mechanistic details of these structural transitions are poorly understood. To simulate aggregation, four equivalents of a water-soluble, α-helical (65 %) amphipathic peptide (AEQLLQEAEQLLQEL) were assembled in…

Tian-Zhong Wang、You-He Zhou2010-12-15Journal of Applied Physics

In this article, the dynamic magnetostrictive effect of giant magnetostrictive materials is studied and a novel general nonlinear transient constitutive model is established, in which the eddy current effects are incorporated. The validity and reliability of the obtained nonlinear transient constitutive model are veri…

It is often assumed that droplets dispensed into standard microplate wells will automatically fill their bottoms. We show here by computational simulation and experimental verification that the ability to fill the well bottom is dependent on the surface wetting characteristics. The release of droplets at the center wa…
