Structure and composition of electrochemically prepared oxide layers on Co in alkaline solutions studied by XPS

Annette Foelske、Hans‐Henning Strehblow2002-08-01Surface and Interface Analysis

Abstract Passive layers on cobalt were prepared in 0.1 N NaOH (pH 13) under potentiostatic control with systematic variation of the relevant parameters, such as time and potential, and examined by x‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The electrochemical preparation of the sputter‐cleaned samples and their transfer…

Synthesis of CeO2 Spherical Fine Particles by Homogeneous Precipitation Method with Polyethylene Glycol

Naofumi Uekawa、Masayuki Ueta、Yong Jun Wu 等 4 位作者2002-08-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract CeO2(IV) fine particles were prepared by heating a polyethylene glycol solution of Ce(NO3)3·6H2O at 383 K for 3 h. When a polyethylene glycol whose molecular weight was 7500 or 20000 was used for the preparation, the obtained CeO2 particles were almost monodispersed.

Rayleigh–Taylor instability of violently collapsing bubbles

Hao Lin、Brian D. Storey、Andrew J. Szeri2002-08-01Physics of Fluids

In a classical paper Plesset has determined conditions under which a bubble changing in volume maintains a spherical shape. The stability analysis was further developed by Prosperetti to include the effects of liquid viscosity on the evolving shape modes. In the present work the theory is further modified to include t…

Possibility of Radiation-Induced Degradation of Concrete by Alkali-Silica Reaction of Aggregates

Tsuneki Ichikawa、Hitoshi Koizumi2002-08-01Journal of Nuclear Science and Technology

The effect of Ar ion irradiation on the reactivity of crystalline and amorphous quartz to alkali has been examined for clarifying whether radiation from nuclear reactors accelerates the degradation of concrete by inducing alkali-silica reaction of aggregates. Distorted amorphous quartz generated on the surface of quar…

Diran Herebıan、Prasanta Ghosh、Hyungphil Chun 等 6 位作者2002-08-01European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry

The coordination chemistry of 6-amino-2,4-di-tert-butylthiophenol (H[LSAP]) and of 2-anilino-4,6-di-tert-butylphenol (H[LOAP]) with cobalt(II) ions was investigated in the presence and absence of dioxygen. It was shown that both compounds were redox-non-innocent ligands, existing in different protonation and oxidation…

Simulating Tethered Polymer Layers in Shear Flow with the Dissipative Particle Dynamics Technique

Christopher M. Wijmans、Berend Smit2002-08-01Macromolecules

The dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) method is used to simulate shear flow between two flat plates. To test this technique, simulations were conducted of both constant and oscillatory shear of a simple fluid. The results of these simulations agree well with theoretical predictions. We subsequently applied our model…

Faraday Rotation Effect of Highly Tb2O3/Dy2O3-Concentrated B2O3−Ga2O3−SiO2−P2O5 Glasses

Tomokatsu Hayakawa、Masayuki Nogami、Nobuyuki Nishi 等 4 位作者2002-08-01Chemistry of Materials

A large amount of Tb2O3 and Dy2O3 has successfully been incorporated into a borate glass with a molar composition of 5B2O3−3Ga2O3−3SiO2−P2O5. Raman scattering analysis revealed the existence of isolated orthborate (BO3)3- groups with increasing rare-earth content. The obtained glass exhibited an excellent Faraday rota…

Orientation-induced crystallization in isotactic polypropylene melt by shear deformation

Rajesh H. Somani、Ling Yang、Igors Šics 等 9 位作者2002-08-01Macromolecular Symposia

Development of orientation-induced precursor structures (nuclei) prior to crystallization in isotactic polypropylene melt under shear flow was studied by in-situ synchrotron small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and rheo-optical techniques. SAXS patterns at 165°C immediately after shear (rate = 60 s−1, ts = 5 s) showed…

Q. Zhuang、S.C. Harlock、D.B. Brook2002-08-01Textile Research Journal

This study investigates liquid transfer from fabric layer to layer and liquid interaction between different fabrics in clothing systems. A higher external pressure leads to an early onset of transfer wicking. There exists an optimum value of external pressure for the maximum water transfer. The greater the water conte…
