Computer-simulation studies of the motion of a straight screw dislocation in a bcc crystal were performed. It was observed that a dislocation running with the speed near the shear wave velocity formed a microtwin without a pole mechanism.

Chemical preparations and crystal data are described for five new tetrametaphosphates: CaK2P4O12, PbK2P4O12, PbRb2P4O12, Pb(NH4)2P4O12 and PbTl2P4O12. All of them are tetragonal and isotypic with SrK2P4O12. The space group is I\bar 4 with Z = 2.

Abstract A critical survey of the published theoretical and experimental approaches to diffusion in liquids is presented. A study of the effects of temperature and viscosity demonstrates that the Stokes — Einstein equation and other relations derived from the hydrodynamic theory can only be applied in special cases. C…

A Ruderman-Kittel interaction between magnetic ions is assumed and the defect is represented by a change in the hopping integral of the conduction electrons. If the hopping integral across the defect is substantially larger than the perfect crystal value, the direction of magnetization reverses across the defect. This…

Low order electron diffraction intensity is sensitive to the electron state of a crystal. Based on this fact, an electron diffraction study has been made to determine the electron state of the ferrimagnetic interstitial compound Mn 4 N by measuring its low order superstructure reflection intensities from polycrystalli…

Neutron small-angle scattering in polycrystalline Al–Mg alloys aged nine months at 0°C has revealed the existence of Guinier–Preston zones in an Al–11.5% Mg alloy, but no G. P. zones in an Al–7% Mg alloy. The evaluation of the data for the 11.5% Mg alloy gives the following parametric values: mean radius of the zones,…

The semi-continuum model of the lattice dynamics of layer crystals devised by Komatsu for application to graphite is here applied to hexagonal boron nitride. It is found that the thermal expansion coefficient αc parallel to the hexagonal axis is determined almost completely by the out-of-plane acoustic vibrational mod…
