Dependence of defects induced by excimer laser on intrinsic structural defects in synthetic silica glasses

Hiroaki Imai、Kazuo Arai、Hideo Hosono 等 6 位作者1991-09-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

Effects of intrinsic defects on defect formation by excimer-laser irradiation were examined in synthetic silica glasses prepared by different methods. In samples containing oxygen-deficient centers (ODC's), laser-induced E' centers were stable at room temperature. In contrast, in samples heat treated in ${\mathrm{H}}_…

Electronic and structural properties of polyparaphenylenevinylene from the vibrational spectra

B. Tian、G. Zerbi、Kläus Müllen1991-09-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

The infrared and Raman spectra of oligomeric model molecules of polyparaphenylenevinylene (PPV) and of the polymer in the pristine state, and the infrared spectra of doped or photoexcited PPV are analyzed in terms of the theory of the effective conjugation coordinate (ECC). It is shown that all the spectroscopic obser…

The electrical and defect properties of erbium-implanted silicon

J. L. Benton、Jürgen Michel、Lionel C. Kimerling 等 8 位作者1991-09-01Journal of Applied Physics

A detailed study of the electrical and defect properties of ion-implanted erbium in silicon shows that erbium doping introduces donor states. The concentration of erbium related donors as a function of implant dose saturates at 4×1016 cm−3 at a peak implanted Er-ion concentration of (4–7)×1017 cm−3. The defect levels…

Stability of Antiferroelectricity and Causes for its Appearance in SmCα * and SmCA * Phases of a Chiral Smectic Liquid Crystal, MHPOBC

Yoichi Takanishi、Kazuyuki Hiraoka、Vijay K. Agrawal 等 5 位作者1991-09-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

The smectic layer thickness and the switching behavior in MHPOBC have been studied as a function of temperature; SmC α * is a tilted phase and is antiferroelectric at least in the higher-temperature region but becomes ferrielectric with decreasing temperature. The gradual appearance of ferrielectric characteristics in…

The Ba(Ti,Zr)O 3 –(Zr,Ti)O 2 Field in the Phase System BaO–TiO 2 –ZrO 2

Michelle M. Hedges、Michael J. Bannister、Mary S. J. Gani1991-09-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The two‐phase field involves a ZrO 2 ‐TiO 2 solid solution containing no more than 4 mol% TiO 2 , and a BaTiO 3 ‐BaZrO 3 solid solution containing a maximum of 75 mol% BaTiO 3 . The field narrows above 1300°C, probably because of the intrusion of a liquid‐phase field into the ternary, beginning near the BaO‐TiO 2 edge.

The Linear Coefficient of Thermal Expansion of Silicon at Room Temperature

Liu Fengchao、Zheng Bin1991-09-01Powder Diffraction

Abstract The linear coefficient of thermal expansion for three silicon single-crystal samples, taken from the head, middle, and tail of the same boule, and their powder samples have been measured at room temperature by using an X-ray powder diffractometer. All samples yield the same expansion value α =2.45 (± 0.04) ×…

Activity–Composition Relations in the Nickel Oxide–Magnesium Oxide System at 1300 K by the Solid‐State Galvanic Cell Technique

Girish M. Kale1991-09-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The activity of NiO in NiO‐MgO rock salt solid solution has been measured at 1300 K by employing a solid‐state galvanic cell: Pt,Ni+ NiO||(CaO)ZrO 2 ||Ni + (Ni x ,Mg l‐x )O, Pt. A high‐density tube of Zr0 2 ‐15 mol% CaO has been used as the solid electrolyte for the emf measurements. The activities of the component ox…

A Fundamental Experimental Study of the Mechanisms of Warpage and Shrinkage of Polyethylene in Rotational Molding

C. H. Chen、James L. White、Yoshihiro Ohta1991-09-01International Polymer Processing

Abstract An off-line experimental simulation of cooling and warpage of rotationally molded parts is described. Slabs of polyethylene rotationally molded parts containing thermocouples and monitored by displacement transducers are placed on a metal surface representing a mold wall. This is cooled by varying methods suc…

Holographic diffraction gratings generated by aberrated wave fronts: application to a high-resolution far-ultraviolet spectrograph

Robert Grange、M. Laget1991-09-01Applied Optics

We investigated the ability of aberration-corrected concave holographic gratings used in the Rowland mount at normal diffraction to provide high spectral resolution in the far-ultraviolet region. By assuming that astigmatism and spherical aberration are geometrically corrected by an ellipsoid, we show that holography…

Abstract By XPS it is confirmed that copper‐containing catalysts supported on alumina and calcined at high temperature (673–873 k for 24 h.), with or without zinc addition, have a ‘surface spinel’ structure. Combining the XPS results with previous results obtained by vis–UV reflectance spectroscopy and XRD we show tha…
