The relationship between crystal structure and electrochemical behavior through the lithium insertion in the perovskite oxides, Li y La (1 - y )/3 NbO 3 ( y = 0, 0.1, 0.25), has been investigated. The results of the relationship between the amount of inserted lithium and the number of vacancies reveal that Li + ions i…
Adsorption equilibria of toluene, dichloromethane, and trichloroethylene onto the pitch-based activated carbon fiber were obtained by the static volumetric method. Equilibrium measurements were done at (298, 323, and 348) K and pressures up to 3 kPa for toluene, 12 kPa for dichloromethane, and 6 kPa for trichloroethyl…
Carbon molecules were produced by evaporation of graphite and matrix-isolated in solid neon and argon. Using synchrotron radiation, the absorption spectra of the carbon clusters were recorded from 1100 to 5600 Å, and the fluorescence or phosphorescence spectra were recorded from 1200 to 9000 Å. We observed an intense,…
In this study we fractionated polystyrene- block -polyisoprene diblock copolymers (PS- b -PI) prepared by anionic polymerization into fractions which have a narrower distribution in molecular weight as well as in chemical composition. The strategy was to use two-dimensional HPLC: reversed phase HPLC to fractionate PI…
We report the synthesis and characterization of polyaniline integrally skinned asymmetric membranes (PANI ISAMs) and their use as chemical and electrochemical actuators. SEM characterization of a PANI ISAM cross section showed a thin dense skin and a microporous substructure with a PANI density gradient. The deformati…
A dipping technique was developed to coat colloidal crystal films with metals. It was found that nanosized metallic particles could be simply immobilized onto the monodisperse spheres in the colloidal crystal film. As one of the application of such films, silver-coated colloidal crystal films were used as the surface-…
Solid acids and especially those based on micelle-templated silicas and other mesoporous high surface area support materials are beginning to play a significant role in the greening of fine and specialty chemicals manufacturing processes. A wide range of important organic reactions can be efficiently catalyzed by thes…

The fine structures of low-temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectra of TiO 2 thin films with addition of ZnFe 2 O 4 (ZnFe 2 O 4 /TiO 2 composite films) are firstly reported. The films were deposited on quartz substrates by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering method. It is shown that different phase structures are d…
Deactivation of the lowest excited triplet (π,π*) state, 3 (π,π*), of the cationic water-soluble Cu(II)-5,10,15,20- meso -tetrakis(4- N -methylpyridyl)porphyrin (CuTMpyP4) was studied by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy in three oxygen-containing solvents (Lewis bases) of various polarity, water, methanol…
We report on first-principles band-structure calculations of the semiconducting CuAlO 2 delafossite compound in the pure form and also with Cd impurity occupying either a Cu or Al position. The computational tool was a full-potential linear augmented plane-wave method, with the generalized gradient approximation accou…
The ferromagnetic coupling behavior in oxo-bridged bis(bis(cyclopentadienyl)titanium(III)) complex (Cp 2 Ti) 2 (μ-O) is investigated on the basis of calculations of density functional theory combined with the broken-symmetry approach. The magnetic coupling constants calculated for the experimental and optimized geomet…
Superlattices in the Pb−Tl−O system with modulation wavelengths varying from 5.2 to 18.9 nm were epitaxially electrodeposited on single-crystal Au(100) by periodically pulsing the current anodically between 0.05 and 5 mA/cm 2 . The films were grown at room temperature from an aqueous solution of 0.005 M TlNO 3 and 0.1…
Reflection−absorption infrared (RAIR) and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy were used to determine the orientation of the bulk and interface of a polymer thin film formed by atactic poly(methyl methacrylate) (a-PMMA) which was dip-coated onto a novel dual-sided substrate. The novel substrate with s…
Absolute total cross sections (TCSs) for the electron scattering from two structured isomers of C 3 H 6 (propene and cyclopropane) have been determined over the energy range from 0.5 up to 370 eV in a linear electron-beam transmission experiment. The TCS for propene is generally higher than that for cyclopropane, espe…
Abstract A new chain‐extension modifier for bismaleimide (BMI), 2,6‐di‐(4‐aminophenoxy)benzonitrile (DAPB), was synthesized through nucleophilic substitution of 2,6‐dichlorobezonitrile by 4‐aminophenol using anhydrous sodium carbonate as an acid acceptor, toluene as a dehydrating agent, and N , N ′‐dimethylacetamide (…
We perform optimal designs of two applicable configurations of multistage thermoelectric (TE) coolers, with serial and separate electric currents flowing through each stage, respectively. The finite-rate heat transfers between the coolers and reservoirs are taken into account. A general optimization method is develope…
Abstract The compatibility behavior of polyetherether ketone (PEEK) with poly(ether sulfone) (PES) has been reexamined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and extrudate swell measurements. The blends were prepared by both melt‐blending and solution‐blending techniques. Th…
Two new thermoelectric materials of quaternary bismuth telluride CsPb3Bi3Te8 and CsPb4Bi3Te9 are reported, which are members of a homologous series featuring anionic slabs [PbmBi3Te5 + m]- (m = 1-4) of monotonically increasing thickness.
