M. Sveningsson、Martin Jönsson‐Niedziółka、О. А. Нерушев 等 5 位作者2002-08-05Applied Physics Letters

We report the observation of blackbody radiation from aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes undergoing field emission. The light intensity correlates with fluctuations in the emission current. The onset of light emission occurs at an emission current of 1 mA/cm2 and corresponds to a temperature on the order of 1550 K.…

High-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) on the quasi-one-dimensional Peierls system ${\mathrm{K}}_{0.3}{\mathrm{MoO}}_{3}$ reveals a ``hidden'' open Fermi surface and band features displaying the symmetry properties of the underlying lattice. However, the ARPES line shapes and optical data su…

Reversible Charging of CdSe Nanocrystals in a Simple Solid-State Device

Wing-Keung Woo、Ken T. Shimizu、M. V. Jarosz 等 7 位作者2002-08-05Advanced Materials

The reversible charging of multiple layers of nanocrystals (NCs) at room temperature has been achieved by using a simple, solid-state device. This reversible charging leads to the possibility of using NCs in optical modulators and in tunable fluorescent or photochromic displays. These structures should also allow syst…

Microstructure evolution and thermal properties in nanocrystalline Cu during mechanical attrition

Yonghao Zhao、K. Lu、K. Zhang2002-08-05Physical review. B, Condensed matter

The microstructural evolution and thermal properties of nanocrystalline (nc) Cu during mechanical attrition were investigated by using quantitative x-ray-diffraction and thermal analysis techniques. Upon milling of the Cu powders with coarse grains, the grain sizes are found to decrease gradually with the milling time…

Fabrication of a Class of Nanostructured Materials Using Carbon Nanowalls as the Templates

Yihong Wu、Bo Yang、Gang Han 等 9 位作者2002-08-05Advanced Functional Materials

Well-aligned carbon nanowalls with a thickness of a few nanometers and a lateral size in the micrometer range have been grown on various types of substrates. The nanowalls exhibit a remarkably different surface morphology as compared to fullerenes and carbon nanotubes, in particular their two-dimensionality and high s…

Genetic synthesis and characterization of pH‐ and temperature‐sensitive silk‐elastinlike protein block copolymers

Ashish Nagarsekar、John Crissman、Mary Crissman 等 6 位作者2002-08-05Journal of Biomedical Materials Research

The purpose of this work was to synthesize and characterize a pH- and temperature-sensitive block copolymer containing repeating sequences from silk (Gly-Ala-Gly-Ala-Gly-Ser) and elastin (Gly-Val-Gly-Val-Pro) protein. The monomer contained one repeat of silk and eight repeat units of elastin, with the first valine in…

Uniform Boron Nitride Coatings on Silicon Carbide Nanowires

Cheng Tang、Yoshio Bando、T. Sato 等 4 位作者2002-08-05Advanced Materials

Uniform and smooth BN coatings on SiC nanowires have been obtained by a simple vapor–liquid–solid (VLS) process using Ni as catalyst. SiO and B2O2 gases, simultaneously generated by heating boron and silicon oxide at high temperature, are used as precursors for the VLS growth. The BN-coated semiconductor nanowires cou…

CRINEPT-TROSY NMR reveals p53 core domain bound in an unfolded form to the chaperone Hsp90

Stefan Rüdiger、Stefan M.V. Freund、Dmitry B. Veprintsev 等 4 位作者2002-08-05Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

The molecular chaperone Hsp90 sequesters oncogenic mutants of the tumor suppressor p53 that have unstable core domains. It is not known whether p53 is bound in an unfolded, partly folded, or distorted structure, as is unknown for the structure of any bound substrate of Hsp90. It is a particularly difficult problem to…

Zhenan Bao、Valerie J. Kuck、John A. Rogers 等 4 位作者2002-08-05Advanced Functional Materials

Silsesquioxane polymers have been successfully used as the dielectric layer in organic field-effect transistors (FETs) deposited on robust, plastic substrates. Performance comparable to that found with silicon substrates having SiO2 as the active dielectric layer was observed with six p- and n- channel organic semicon…

Intraframework Metal Ion Adsorption in Ligand-Functionalized Mesoporous Silica

Kazi M. Zakir Hossain、Louis Mercier2002-08-05Advanced Materials

Selective ion adsorption can be carried out with mesostructured metal ion adsorbents in which the ligand groups are included inside the framework walls (see Figure), as is demonstrated here. Another important feature of these materials is that the pore channels are not obstructed by functional groups, thus making it p…
