Raman scattering spectra and ferroelectric properties of Bi1−xNdxFeO3 (x=–0.2) multiferroic ceramics

Guoliang Yuan、Siu Wing Or、H.L.W. Chan2007-03-15Journal of Applied Physics

Single-phase Bi1−xNdxFeO3 (BNFOx) (x=0–0.2) multiferroic ceramics were prepared to study the effects of Nd substitution on their crystal structures, Raman scattering spectra, and ferroelectric properties. Rietveld refinement of x-ray diffraction data showed a gradual change in crystal structure from rhombohedral to ps…

Thermal characterization of microscale conductive and nonconductive wires using transient electrothermal technique

Jiaqi Guo、Xinwei Wang、Tao Wang2007-03-15Journal of Applied Physics

In this paper, a transient technique is developed to characterize the thermophysical properties of one-dimensional conductive and nonconductive microscale wires. In this technique, the to-be-measured thin wire is suspended between two electrodes. When feeding a step dc to the sample, its temperature will increase and…

Frequency shift of optical phonons in doped graphene layers

Srijan Kumar Saha、U. V. Waghmare、H. R. Krishnamurthy 等 4 位作者2007-03-15arXiv

We use first-principles density-functional calculations to determine the frequency shift of the A$'_1$-${\bf K}$ phonon (Raman D band) in monolayer graphene, as a function of the charge doping. A detailed DFT study on the electron-phonon coupling and the phonon line width of E$_{2g}$-${\bm Γ}$ and A$'_1$-${\bf K}$ pho…

Gellation of rigid filament networks

B. A. DiDonna、D. C. Morse2007-03-15arXiv

We consider a model for gelation of rigid rods, in which rods that are initially placed at random undergo diffusion, and form cross-links when they collide. In the limit of point-like cross-links, the number N of croslinks per rod approaches N ~ 3.53. In a model with compliant cross-links of maximum length l_c, N(t) i…

Solving the Kadanoff-Baym equations for inhomogenous systems: Application to atoms and molecules

Nils Erik Dahlen、Robert van Leeuwen2007-03-15arXiv

We have implemented time-propagation of the non-equilibrium Green function for atoms and molecules, by solving the Kadanoff-Baym equations within a conserving self-energy approximation. We here demonstrate the usefulnes of time-propagation for calculating spectral functions and for describing the correlated electron d…

Core/Shell Quantum Dots with High Relaxivity and Photoluminescence for Multimodality Imaging

Shizhong Wang、Benjamin R. Jarrett、Susan M. Kauzlarich 等 4 位作者2007-03-15Journal of the American Chemical Society

A series of core/shell CdSe/Zn1-xMnxS nanoparticles were synthesized for use in dual-mode optical and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging techniques. Mn2+ content was in the range of 0.6-6.2% and varies with the thickness of the shell or amount of Mn2+ introduced to the reaction. These materials showed high quantum yield…

This DOI is not currently attached to any metadata records. DOIs can’t actually ever be deleted (they’re persistent), but sometimes our members create DOIs in error. We do have a process to approximate deletion which we follow only in rare cases where the DOI has been genuinely created in error, and most crucially, if…

Oxygen Vacancy Clustering and Electron Localization in Oxygen-DeficientSrTiO3:LDA+UStudy

Do Duc Cuong、Bora Lee、Kyeong Mi Choi 等 6 位作者2007-03-15OpenAlex

We find, using a local density approximation +Hubbard U method, that oxygen vacancies tend to cluster in a linear way in SrTiO(3), a prototypical perovskite oxide, accompanied by strong electron localization at the 3d state of the nearby Ti transition metal ion. The vacancy clustering and the associated electron local…

Novel Electric Field Effects on Landau Levels in Graphene

Vinu Lukose、Ravi Shankar、G. Baskaran2007-03-15OpenAlex

A new effect in graphene in the presence of crossed uniform electric and magnetic fields is predicted. Landau levels are shown to be modified in an unexpected fashion by the electric field, leading to a collapse of the spectrum, when the value of electric to magnetic field ratio exceeds a certain critical value. Our t…

UV-Driven Reversible Switching of a Roselike Vanadium Oxide Film between Superhydrophobicity and Superhydrophilicity

Ho Sun Lim、Donghoon Kwak、Dong Yun Lee 等 5 位作者2007-03-15OpenAlex

We report the fabrication of a roselike nanostructured vanadium oxide (V 2 O 5 ) film with photoinduced surface wettability switching by carrying out the drop-casting of a suspension of V 2 O 5 particles synthesized with the sol−gel method. Although a pure V 2 O 5 film is slightly hydrophilic, the addition of alkylami…

Roberta A. DiLeo、Brian J. Landi、Ryne P. Raffaelle2007-03-15OpenAlex

Carbonaceous purity assessment for chemical vapor deposition multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) using Raman spectroscopy was investigated. Raman spectroscopy was performed on a reference sample set containing predetermined ratios of MWNTs and representative synthesis by-products. Changes in the characteristic Raman…

Using symmetries of grating groove profiles to reduce computation cost of the C method

Lifeng Li2007-03-14Journal of the Optical Society of America A

This work reduces the computation cost of the C method by taking into account the symmetries of grating grooves. All one-dimensionally periodic, single-interface, surface-relief gratings are classified into five categories according to the symmetries of the planar periodic curves describing the interface. The five cat…
