Intensities of spin‐forbidden transitions in molecular oxygen and selective heavy‐atom effects

Boris F. Minaev1980-02-01International Journal of Quantum Chemistry

Abstract Intensities of a 1 Δ g ← X 3 ∑ g − and b 1 ∑ g + ← X 3 ∑ g − transitions in molecular oxygen have been calculated on the basis of the INDO method taking into account spin‐orbit coupling by perturbation theory. The transitions are magnetic dipole in nature. The first of them ( a − X ) steals its intensity from…

Thermal Decomposition Process of HMX

Junichi Kimura、Naminosuke Kubota1980-02-01Propellants Explosives Pyrotechnics

Abstract The thermal decomposition of HMX has been investigated using thermoanalytical techniques and infrared spectroscopic study at both above and below its melting point. The weight loss phenomenon that occurs as the temperature is elevated at a constant heating rate has been clearly separated into four elementary…

Cell Expansion Patterns and Directionality of Wall Mechanical Properties in Nitella.

Paul A. Richmond、Jean‐Pierre Métraux、Lincoln Taiz1980-02-01PLANT PHYSIOLOGY

As a means of assessing the extent to which deformation of isolated walls relates to in vivo cell expansion, the directionality of wall mechanical properties was examined in Nitella. Measurements were made of plastic and elastic deformation and creep under both uniaxial and multiaxial stress conditions. Walls of diffe…

Experimental mineral/liquid partition coefficients of the rare earth elements (REE), Sc and Sr for perovskite, spinel and melilite

Hiroshi Nagasawa、Henry D. Schreiber、R. V. Morris1980-02-01Earth and Planetary Science Letters

Experimental determinations of the mineral/liquid partition coefficients of REE (La, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Yb and Lu), Sc and Sr are reported for the minerals perovskite, spinel and melilite in synthetic systems. Perovskite concentrates light REE with respect to the residual liquid but shows no preference for heavy REE. Spi…

Structure determination of LixTiS2 by neutron diffraction

J. R. Dahn、W. R. McKinnon、R. R. Haering 等 5 位作者1980-02-01Canadian Journal of Physics

The crystal structures of the intercalation compounds of Li x TiS 2 are investigated by neutron diffraction for x = 0.12, 0.33, 0.67, and 1.0. The Li atoms are shown to preferentially occupy the octahedral sites in the van der Waals gaps of the host TiS 2 lattice for all values of x and no evidence for three-dimension…

Mean free path for inelastic scattering of 1.2 kev electrons in thin poly(methylmethacrylate) films

Robert Roberts、David L. Allara、C. A. Pryde 等 5 位作者1980-02-01Surface and Interface Analysis

Abstract Mean free paths for inelastic scattering (λ) of low energy electrons in poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) have been determined by measuring Al Kα excited C 1s and Si 2s photoelectron signal intensities as a function of ellipsometrically determined thicknesses of PMMA overlayers on silicon substrates. The λ valu…

Bubble Effects on the Solution IR Drop in a Vertical Electrolyzer Under Free and Forced Convection

Fumio Hine、K. Murakami1980-02-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Effects of electrolytic bubbles on the IR drop of caustic soda solution in a vertical cell of one meter height were studied under both free and forced convection. Three pairs of Luggin‐Haber probes were positioned near the anode and the cathode to determine the solution IR drop during electrolysis. A sectioned electro…

Static compression of silicon in the [100] and in the [111] directions

Mool C. Gupta、Arthur L. Ruoff1980-02-01Journal of Applied Physics

High pressures were generated using a diamond indentor technique. The phase transition in silicon loaded in the [100] direction and silicon loaded in the [111] direction under high pressure was studied. From the behavior of electrical resistance of silicon loaded in the [100] direction, it was found that it becomes me…

Morphological studies on polybutylene terephthalate

Richard S. Stein、Ashish Misra1980-02-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Physics Edition

Abstract The morphology of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) crystallized from the melt at various temperatures was studied by small‐angle light scattering, polarizing microscopy, and wide‐angle x‐ray diffraction. Spherulites with a maltese cross at 45° to the polars formed at lower temperatures while spherulites hav…

The glass-forming region was determined for the system Ge-Bi-Se; 13 at.% Bi was found to be incorporated at its maximum content into glasses, the Ge content of which was 20 at.%. Electrical resistivity, thermoelectric power, and optical absorption coefficient were measured mainly on a series of Ge20BixSe80−x glasses (…

T. R. Hesketh、John W. C. Van Bogart、Stuart L. Cooper1980-02-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract Investigations of morphological changes which are induced in segmented elastomers by annealing and quenching are reported. Four different polymers were studied each based on the same soft segment—1000 or 2000 molecular weight poly(tetramethylene oxide). The hard segments were 4,4′‐diphenylmethane diisocyanate…

Formation Mechanism of Porous Silicon Layer by Anodization in HF Solution

Takashi Unagami1980-02-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

The mechanism of formation of porous silicon layer (PSL) has been studied according to the following experimental results. PSL is formed by the local dissolution of silicon which occurs only at the base of the pores. The concentration of the electrolyte in the pores of PSL is constant during anodization and the anodic…

The determination of diffuse-boundary thicknesses of polymers by small-angle X-ray scattering

Jeffrey T. Koberstein、Bruce S. Morra、Richard S. Stein1980-02-01OpenAlex

Thermal density fluctuations within phases and finite interphase widths lead to systematic deviations from Porod's law. The validity of present methods used to analyze these deviations and determine diffuse-boundary widths is determined. In view of the inadequacies found in these methods, a simple yet accurate method…
