Die Kristallstruktur der Phase LiSn

W. U. Müller、H. Schäfer1973-06-01Zeitschrift für Naturforschung B

LiSn crystallizes monoclinic: a = 5.17 ± 0.02 Å; b = 7.74 ± 0.02 Å; c = 3.18 ± 0.02 Å; γ = 104.5° ± 0.3°, space group: P 2/m - C 2h 1 . LiSn is not isotypic with LiGe and LiPb, but there are many structural relations to LiPb.

Interlayer Bonding in Kaolinite, Dickite and Nacrite

R. F. Giese1973-06-01Clays and Clay Minerals

Abstract A simple electrostatic model has been used to demonstrate that the inner surface hydroxyls in kaolinite, dickite and nacrite are responsible for the interlayer bonding in these minerals. The contribution to the interlayer bonding of an individual hydroxyl hydrogen depends on the orientation of the hydroxyl gr…

The Experimental Transformation of Mica Toward Smectite; Relative Importance of Total Charge and Tetrahedral Substitution

M. Robert1973-06-01Clays and Clay Minerals

Abstract This article emphasizes the influence of crystal-chemical composition on the ease of transformation of micas to vermiculite or more smectite-like minerals. The swelling test, with glycerol, of Mg-saturated mineral is used to characterize the degree of transformation. The main structural factors of this evolut…

Role of Stress in the Stress Corrosion Cracking of a Mg-Al Alloy

W. R. Wearmouth、Graham Dean、R. N. Parkins1973-06-01CORROSION

It is shown that the correlation of the threshold stress for stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of plain specimens and of KISCC for precracked specimens in a Mg 7% Al alloy immersed in K2CrO4/NaCl solutions is explicable in terms of the formation of cracks that do not propagate to total failure in plain specimens stresse…

On the Mechanism of Uranium Dioxide-Sodium Explosive Interactions

Hans K. Fauske1973-06-01Nuclear Science and Engineering

A mechanism believed responsible for the explosive vapor growth observed in Armstrong’s experiment with LMFBR materials (liquid sodium injected into molten UO2) is discussed. Basically, liquid sodium globules can be entrained and wet the liquid UO2 surfaces. The lack of nucleation sites in the liquid-liquid-like syste…

Small‐angle x‐ray scattering of semicrystalline polymers. II. Analysis of experimental scattering curves

Buckley Crist、N. Morosoff1973-06-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Physics Edition

Abstract The small‐angle x‐ray scattering (SAXS) patterns of a number of linear polyethylene (PE) and polyoxymethylene (POM) samples have been measured and compared to the intensity functions of one‐dimensional paracrystalline lattices. It was found that the ratio of the angular positions of the second and first scatt…

Crystal structure of nylon 12

Kazuo Inoue、Sadao HOSHINO1973-06-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Physics Edition

Abstract The crystal structure of nylon 12 prepared by polymerization of dodecalactam has been determined by x‐ray diffraction. Nylon 12 fiber exhibits only the γ form as its stable crystal structure. The unit cell of nylon 12 was determined with the aid of the x‐ray diffraction pattern of a doubly oriented specimen.…

Abstract The intensities and other spectral parameters of the main components of infrared amide bands for the random and anti‐parallel pleated sheet forms have been determined for poly‐S‐carbobenzoxymethylcysteine, poly‐ S ‐carboxymethylcysteine, polylysine and silk fibroin of Bombyx mori in heavy water solutions and…

Spontaneous polarization of Gd2 (MoO4)3

E. Sawaguchi、L. E. Cross1973-06-01Journal of Applied Physics

The spontaneous electric polarization Ps has been measured for Gd2(MoO4)3 over the temperature range from 4.2 °K to the Curie point. Near 4 °K the maximum Ps is slightly less than 0.29 μC/cm2 with a very low temperature coefficient. An electric field enforced phase transition from paraelectric to ferroelectric at temp…

Study of Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide Interactions with Palladium-Y Zeolite by ESR and IR Spectroscopy

C. Naccache、Michel Primet、Michel V. Mathieu1973-06-01Advances in chemistry series

Oxidation states of palladium-loaded Y zeolites were measured by ESR and IR spectrometry. After treatment by oxygen at 500µC the Pd is almost in the Pd(II) form, and few Pd (1%) are found in the Pd(III) form. After reduction by hydrogen at room temperature the Pd at zero oxidation state is almost atomically dispersed.…

26—THE ELASTIC RESISTANCE TO BENDING OF PLAIN-WOVEN FABRICS

G.M. Abbott、P. Grosberg、G. A. V. Leaf1973-06-01Journal of the Textile Institute

The elastic resistance to bending of woven fabrics has previously been considered in terms of the existence in the yarns of rigid and elastic sections. The difficulties inherent in such a model and the noticeable differences between the predicted and experimental findings are examined in this paper. Two models of a pl…

Analysis of the Exchange Parameters and Magnetic Properties of NiO

R. Shanker、R. A. Singh1973-06-01Physical review. B, Solid state

The magnetic properties of NiO have been analyzed under the assumption that it is very nearly equivalent to four interpenetrating quasi-independent simple cubic lattices. The bilinear next-nearest-neighbor superexchange parameter ${J}_{2}$ is estimated using the low-temperature powder susceptibility, N\'eel temperatur…

Segmented Polyester Thermoplastic Elastomers

William K. Witsiepe1973-06-01Advances in chemistry series

The preparation and physical properties of a group of polyether-polyester copolymers are described. Where the polyester component has a high homopolymer melting point, the resulting copolyesters are tough, resilient, thermoprocessable elastomers. Polymer hardness and modulus characteristics may be varied from a fairly…

Flux distribution and power loss in the mitered overlap joint in power transformer cores

Martin Jones、A.J. Moses、J.E. Thompson1973-06-01IEEE Transactions on Magnetics

The design of the joints in a power transformer core has a marked influence on the efficiency of the core as a whole. Two experimental cores have been built such that the lengths of their 45° mitered overlaps could be varied from 0 to 2.0 cm. The larger core, with 1.0 m limbs, was used for investigating flux and loss…

A new approach to the determination of crystallinity of polymers by X-ray diffraction

Frank H. Chung、R. W. Scott1973-06-01Journal of Applied Crystallography

A new X-ray diffraction method for the determination of crystallinity of polymers is reported. A probability function is used to express the intensity distribution of an amorphous halo. The intensity of the halo buried under any crystalline peak can be calculated by this function. An amorphous-standard-addition method…

Hydroxyl orientation in kaolinite, dickite, and nacrite

R. F. Giese、Pabitra Datta1973-06-01American Mineralogist

The orientations of the hydoxyl groups in the minerals kaolinite, dickite and nacrite have been determined by an iterative process based on the minimization of the total electrostatic energy of the respective crystal structures. The hydroxyl shared by the tetrahedral and octahedral sheets is directed toward the empty…
