Reverse-poling effects on charge retention in Pb(Zr,Ti)O3(001)/LaNiO3(001) heterostructures

William Jo、D. C. Kim、Jongin Hong2000-01-17Applied Physics Letters

We report charge retention in preferentially c-axis oriented ferroelectric Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT) thin films on LaNiO3 by electrostatic force microscopy. The surface charge density of the PZT films was observed as a function of time in a selected area where a region is single poled and another region is reverse poled. Rete…

Glass Transition Temperature of Poly(tert-butyl methacrylate) Langmuir−Blodgett Film and Spin-Coated Film by X-ray Reflectivity and Ellipsometry

Yoon–Ki See、Junhoe Cha、Taihyun Chang 等 4 位作者2000-01-17Langmuir

The glass transition temperature ( T g ) of poly( tert -butyl methacrylate) (PtBMA) Langmuir−Blodgett (LB) films relative to that of spin-coated films on a silicon substrate is investigated by ellipsometry and X-ray reflectivity. The T g of spin-coated films on an oxide-free silicon wafer decreases as the film thickne…

Cofactor-Bound Cross-Linked Enzyme Crystals (CLEC) of Alcohol Dehydrogenase

Nancy St. Clair、Yi-Fong Wang、Alexey L. Margolin2000-01-17Angewandte Chemie International Edition

Horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase was crystallized in the presence of its cofactor. The cross-linked enzyme crystals (CLECs) produced showed good catalytic activity without the addition of extra cofactor (see scheme). The enantioselectivity and stereochemical preference of the CLEC were the same as with the soluble en…

Molecular Dispersion of Chains in the Mixed-Valence Complexes [M(en)2][MCl2(en)2] (M: Pt, Pd, Ni) and Anionic Amphiphiles in Organic Media

Nobuo Kimizuka、Sang‐Ho Lee、Toyoki Kunitake2000-01-17Angewandte Chemie International Edition

A way to prepare molecular electronic wires in organic media is the solubilization of one-dimensional mixed-valence complexes with varied metal species through the formation of amphiphilic supramolecular assemblies (see picture). Dissociation and reassembly of the complex was detected as thermochromism in the interval…

In situ transmission electron microscope studies of the kinetics of abnormal grain growth in electroplated copper films

Stefan P. Hau‐Riege、Carl V. Thompson2000-01-17Applied Physics Letters

We have performed in situ transmission electron microscopy studies of abnormal grain growth in electroplated copper films at room temperature and 55 °C, starting minutes after the plating process by electroplating directly onto electron-transparent membranes. A kinetic analysis indicates that the grains that grow abno…

Zinc Porphyrin Tweezer in Host-Guest Complexation: Determination of Absolute Configurations of Primary Monoamines by Circular Dichroism

Xuefei Huang、Babak Borhan、Barry Rickman 等 5 位作者2000-01-17Chemistry - A European Journal

A nonempirical exciton chirality circular dichroic (CD) method for determining the absolute configurations of primary monoamines with amino group directly linked to the stereogenic center is described. Conventional exciton chirality CD method cannot be applied to these compounds since they lack the two sites for attac…

New Pathways in Plastics Recycling

Walter Kaminsky、Frank Hartmann2000-01-17Angewandte Chemie International Edition

The catalytic degradation of polyethylene to short-chain hydrocarbons is possible with zirconium hydride compounds (see picture), and represents the first step in the reversal of Ziegler - Natta polymerization. Thus, even in the case of polyolefins the important target of plastics recycling, the recovery of reusable m…

A Dicubane-Like Tetrameric Nickel(II) Azido Complex

Z.E. Serna、Luís Lezama、M. Karmele Urtiaga 等 7 位作者2000-01-17Angewandte Chemie International Edition

A combination of azido and dipyridylketone (dpk) ligands led to the isolation of the tetranuclear Ni(II) complex 1 (dpkOH and dpkOCH(3) result from solvolysis of dpk). The complex exhibits ferromagnetic behavior, and its structure can be described as a dicubane unit with two missing vertices (see picture).

In the three-dimensional oxalate network structures [M(II)(bpy)3][M(I)-M(III)(ox)3] (ox= C2O4(2-); bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) the negatively charged oxalate backbone provides perfect cavities for tris-bipyridyl complex cations. The size of the cavity can be adjusted by variation of the metal ions of the oxalate backbone.…

Silicon nanocrystals with diameters ranging from ≈2 to 5.5 nm were formed by Si ion implantation into SiO2 followed by annealing. After passivation with deuterium, the photoluminescence (PL) spectrum at 12 K peaks at 1.60 eV and has a full width at half maximum of 0.28 eV. The emission is attributed to the recombinati…

A Mechanism for Cutting Carbon Nanotubes with a Scanning Tunneling Microscope

Angel Rubio、S. Peter Apell、Liesbeth C. Venema 等 4 位作者2000-01-17arXiv

We discuss the local cutting of single-walled carbon nanotubes by a voltage pulse to the tip of a scanning tunneling microscope. The tip voltage ($\mid V \mid \ge $~3.8 eV) is the key physical quantity in the cutting process. After reviewing several possible physical mechanisms we conclude that the cutting process rel…

Self-Consistent Effective-Medium Approximations with Path Integrals

Yves-Patrick Pellegrini、Marc Barthelemy2000-01-17arXiv

We study effective-medium approximations for linear composite media by means of a path integral formalism with replicas. We show how to recover the Bruggeman and Hori-Yonezawa effective-medium formulas. Using a replica-coupling ansatz, these formulas are extended into new ones which have the same percolation threshold…

Field distributions and effective-medium approximation for weakly nonlinear media

Yves-Patrick Pellegrini2000-01-17arXiv

An effective-medium theory is proposed for random weakly nonlinear dielectric media. It is based on a new gaussian approximation for the probability distributions of the electric field in each component of a multi-phase composite. These distributions are computed to linear order from a Bruggeman-like self-consistent f…

Direct Measurement of Interfacial Curvature Distributions in a Bicontinuous Block Copolymer Morphology

Hiroshi Jinnai、Yukihiro Nishikawa、Richard J. Spontak 等 6 位作者2000-01-17Physical Review Letters

Self-consistent field theory predicts that the complex phase behavior of block copolymers does not originate solely from the interface seeking constant mean curvature as once thought, but instead reflects competing minimization of interfacial tension and packing frustration. To test this prediction, we directly measur…

Luminescence of Nd(III) in an organic solvent having C-H bonds was achieved for the first time by complexing Nd(III) with long-chain perfluoroalkylated ligands such as bis(perfluorooctylsulfonyl)aminate (pos). The complex [Nd(pos)(3)] gave an emission quantum yield of 3.0+/-0.5 % in undeuterated acetone. The bulky pos…

Current saturation mechanisms in carbon nanotube field emitters

Kenneth A. Dean、Babu Chalamala2000-01-17OpenAlex

Recent studies have shown a current limiting effect in the field emission behavior of carbon nanotubes. In this letter, we demonstrate that an individual nanotube exhibits current saturation above 100 nA of emission current, and we show that this current saturation is a direct result of an adsorbate-enhanced field emi…
