Memristive switching of MgO based magnetic tunnel junctions

P. Krzysteczko、G. Reiss、A. Thomas2009-07-21arXiv

Here we demonstrate that both, tunnel magneto resistance (TMR) and resistive switching (RS), can be observed simultaneously in nano-scale magnetic tunnel junctions. The devices show bipolar RS of 6 % and TMR ratios of about 100 %. For each magnetic state, multiple resistive sates are created depending on the bias hist…

GaAs(111)A and B in hydrazine sulfide solutions : extreme polarity dependence of surface adsorption processes

V. L. Berkovits、V. P. Ulin、O. E. Tereshchenko 等 8 位作者2009-07-21arXiv

Chemical bonds formed by hydrazine-sulfide treatment of GaAs(111) were studied by synchrotron photoemission spectroscopy. At the B surface, the top arsenic atoms are replaced by nitrogen atoms, while GaAs(111)A is covered by sulfur, also bonded to underlying gallium, despite the sulfide molar concentration being 103 t…

A. Donev、V. V. Bulatov、T. Oppelstrup 等 6 位作者2009-07-21arXiv

We develop an asynchronous event-driven First-Passage Kinetic Monte Carlo (FPKMC) algorithm for continuous time and space systems involving multiple diffusing and reacting species of spherical particles in two and three dimensions. The FPKMC algorithm presented here is based on the method introduced in [Phys. Rev. Let…

Mechanism of carbon nanotubes unzipping into graphene ribbons

Norma L. Rangel、Juan C. Sotelo、Jorge M. Seminario2009-07-21The Journal of Chemical Physics

The fabrication of graphene nanoribbons from carbon nanotubes (CNTs) treated with potassium permanganate in a concentrated sulfuric acid solution has been reported by Kosynkin et al. [Nature (London) 458, 872 (2009)]. Here we report ab initio density functional theory calculations of such unzipping process. We find th…

Appropriate surface chemistry between a material and its surrounding biological environment is crucial to the eventual integration and performance of any implant, whether metal, plastic, or ceramic. A robust peptide-based coating technology capable of easily modifying the surface of titanium (Ti) metal through noncova…

Substrate-induced antiferromagnetism of an Fe monolayer on the Ir(001) surface

Josef Kudrnovsky、Frantisek Maca、Ilja Turek 等 4 位作者2009-07-21arXiv

We present detailed ab initio study of structural and magnetic stability of a Fe-monolayer on the fcc(001) surface of iridium. The Fe-monolayer has a strong tendency to order antiferromagnetically for the true relaxed geometry. On the contrary an unrelaxed Fe/Ir(001) sample has a ferromagnetic ground state. The antife…

The experimental investigation of thermal conductivity and the Wiedemann–Franz law for single metallic nanowires

F. Völklein、Heiko Reith、Thomas W. Cornelius 等 5 位作者2009-07-21Nanotechnology

A new method for the measurement of thermal conductivity of electrically conducting single nanowires is presented. First experimental investigations are focused on the thermal conductivity of metallic Pt nanowires with a diameter of (typically) 100 nm and a length of 10 microm. Thermal conductivity data are compared w…

Relationship between the parting limit for de-alloying and a particular geometric high-density site percolation threshold

Dorota Artymowicz、Jonah Erlebacher、Roger Newman2009-07-21The Philosophical Magazine A Journal of Theoretical Experimental and Applied Physics

The parting limit or de-alloying threshold for electrolytic dissolution of the more reactive component from a homogeneous fcc binary alloy is usually between 50 and 60 at%. The system that has been most studied, dissolution of Ag from Ag–Au, shows a parting limit close to 55 at% Ag. Here, Kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) sim…

Investigating the Specificity of Peptide Adsorption on Gold Using Molecular Dynamics Simulations

Ana Vila Verde、Jacqueline M. Acres、Janna K. Maranas2009-07-21Biomacromolecules

We report all-atom molecular dynamics simulations following adsorption of gold-binding and non-gold-binding peptides on gold surfaces modeled with dispersive interactions. We examine the dependence of adsorption on both identity of the amino acids and mobility of the peptides. Within the limitations of the approach, r…

Evolution of stress in individual grains and twins in a magnesium alloy aggregate

C. Can Aydıner、Joel V. Bernier、B. Clausen 等 6 位作者2009-07-21Physical Review B

This is an in situ measurement of the full stress tensor and its evolution in a growing deformation twin and, simultaneously, in the grain where the twin forms. The combined information provides a detailed picture of the grain-twin interaction. The three-dimensional x-ray diffraction method using 80.7 keV synchrotron…

Kinetics of photoinduced ordering in azo-dye films: Two-state and diffusion models

Alexei D. Kiselev、Vladimir G. Chigrinov、Hoi Sing Kwok2009-07-21Physical Review E

We theoretically study the kinetics of photoinduced ordering in azo-dye photoaligning layers and present the results of modeling performed using two different phenomenological approaches. Kinks in the electronic specific heat

A. Toschi、M. Capone、C. Castellani 等 4 位作者2009-07-21arXiv

We find that the heat capacity of a strongly correlated metal presents striking changes with respect to Landau Fermi liquid theory. In contrast with normal metals, where the electronic specific heat is linear at low temperature (with a T^3 term as a leading correction), a dynamical mean-field study of the correlated H…

Using Fe/GaAs Schottky tunnel barriers as electrical spin detectors, we show that the magnitude and sign of their spin-detection sensitivities can be widely tuned with the voltage bias applied across the Fe/GaAs interface. Experiments and theory establish that this tunability derives not just simply from the bias depe…
