Imaging of dioctahedral 2:1 layers by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM): Possibility of recording the dehydroxylate

T. Kogure2007-08-01American Mineralogist

High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images of dioctahedral 2:1 phyllosilicates (muscovite, paragonite, pyrophyllite, etc.) acquired by intense electron radiation may not record the natural state but rather the dehydroxylate phase, e.g., NaAl 2 Si 3 AlO 11 in the case of paragonite, NaAl 2 Si 3 AlO…

Dynamic criterion of the complex formation and the structure of molten halides: To the fortieth anniversary of the autocomplex model for the structure of melts

S. А. Kirillov2007-08-01Russian Journal of Electrochemistry

The results of my latest research into molten halides of alkali and alkaline-earth metals by a method of Raman spectroscopy are reviewed. A dynamic criterion for the formation of complexes in melts is considered. The results that testify to the existence of instantaneous and short-lived autocomplexes in these liquids…

Hyosun Lim、Kyunggon Kim、Dohyun Han 等 5 位作者2007-08-01Molecules and Cells

The hypothetical protein TTC0263 of Thermus thermophilus HB27 is a thermophilic tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR)-containing protein. In the present study, the TPR region (residues 26-230) was resolved at 2.5 A with R-factors of R/Rfree = 23.6%/28.6%. TTC0263 consists of 11 helices that form five TPR units. Uniquely, it…

Abstract Summary: In this study, two samples of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) were synthesized by CVD of acetylene over Fe 2 Co catalysts supported by CaCO 3 using different temperatures. The material produced at 660 °C (MWNT600) shows slightly better performance as evidenced by lower mean tube diameter and bett…

Fast diagonalization of evolving matrices: application to spin-fermion models

Gonzalo Álvarez、Phani K. V. V. Nukala、E. D’Azevedo2007-08-01Journal of Statistical Mechanics Theory and Experiment

Large scale simulation of the colossal magnetoresistance effect in manganites using spin-fermion models is often hampered due to the high computational cost associated with computing the eigenvalues of each of the successive Hamiltonian matrices. Consequently, current spin-fermion model simulations contain no more tha…

Melting-solidification process in Pb-Bi melts

V. Sklyarchuk、Yu. Plevachuk、G. Gerbeth 等 4 位作者2007-08-01Journal of Physics Conference Series

Electrical conductivity, σ(T), of liquid Pb-Bi alloys of eutectic and near eutectic compositions was investigated in the "melting-solidification" temperature region. The revealed discrepancies between the heating and cooling σ(T) curves as well as a hysteresis observed in course of heating-cooling cycles suggest a met…

For a singularly perturbed parabolic equation in two dimensions, the formation of a solution with a sharp transition layer from a sufficiently general initial function is considered. An asymptotic analysis is used to estimate the time required for the formation of a contrast structure. Numerical results are presented.
