A transmission electron microscope study of the structures of grain boundaries in zinc has been performed. Dislocation structures are observed in many high angle boundaries, and in most cases, the boundaries that exhibit such structure are close in misorientation to a coincidence site lattice (CSL) forming misorientat…

Abstract Electron–hole recombination luminescence is investigated in CsCdBr 3 crystals. This luminescence consists mainly of a single band at 1.9 eV, assigned to a transition 3 Σ → 1 Σ . The comparison between this emission and emission observed under the 4 eV excitation confirms that the latter is due to Br centers.

Disclinations in thin crystals of MgCd alloy are demonstrated by high resolution electron microscopy. The disclinations appear along the intersection lines of twin boundaries which occur due to spontaneous lattice deformations at the phase transition temperature. A star-disclination which is not an intersection line c…

Abstract A prerequisite for the protection of metallic materials against atmospheric corrosion is to prevent the deposition of water on the metal surface. If present in sufficient concentration, amphiphilic corrosion inhibitors are adsorbed on metallic surfaces as closely packed hydrophobic films which form a barrier…

Abstract Mixtures of novolac resin with pressed cottonseed in different proportions after their curing as small cylinders, and also pressed cottonseed as powder were pyrolyzed until 1000°C. Some samples follow, as well as an activation process by steam between 700 and 950°C. The weight losses of the samples are much h…

In this work experimental results in infrared absorption at low temperatures on the layered compounds of the MPX3 (M=Fe,Ni and X=S,Se) family are reported. The absorption spectra in the far infrared (between 50 and 500 cm−1) recorded on thin slabs of these compounds (10 μm thick) are compared with the corresponding Ra…

Abstract Cross‐linked networks of poly(dimethylsiloxane) were swelled with styrene containing benzoyl peroxide. Polymerization of the styrene in situ, by increasing the temperature, gave novel elastomeric composites. Scanning electron micrographs suggest that low concentrations of styrene (∼ 14 wt.%) gave primarily lo…

Fission products and other compounds released during severe nuclear power plant accidents will form aerosol particles, which include water-soluble compounds such as cesium hydroxide (CsOH), cesium carbonate, and cesium iodide. These hygroscopic particles will grow in a humid environment, and thus their settling rate i…

The thermal diffusion of hydrogen in a Zr–2.5 wt % Nb pressure tube alloy has been studied in the H range from 28 to 108 ppm as a function of specimen orientation. The heat of transport Q*, lay between 4.1 and 5.1 kcal/mol, and no effect of either H concentration or specimen orientation was detected in the range studi…
