26—OPEN-END-SPUN CORE-SPUN YARNS

R. Nield、A. R. A. Ali1977-07-01Journal of the Textile Institute

A mechanism for producing open-end-spun core-spun yarns is described, and the method of operation is explained. Examples of open-end-spun core-spun yarns are given. Yarn properties are discussed, attention being drawn to the different functions performed by the core and the sheath.

Crystal data space-group tables

A. D. Mighell、Helen M. Ondik、Bettijoyce Breen Molino1977-07-01Journal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data

Crystal Data Space-Group Tables lists over 17,000 materials whose space groups and symmetry have been determined mainly by x-ray diffraction. These tables comprise a companion publication to Crystal Data Determinative Tables. The space groups are listed in the same order and orientation as in International Tables for…

Abstract Communications are brief preliminary reports of research work in all areas of chemistry which, on account of its fundamental significance, novelty, or general applicability, should be of interest to a broad spectrum of chemists. Authors of communications are requested to state reasons of this kind justifying…

Noble Metal Catalysts on Metallic Substrates

A. S. Pratt、J.A. Cairns1977-07-01Platinum Metals Review

The use of platinum group metal catalysts supported on ceramic monoliths for control of gaseous emissions from automobiles and chemical plant is now well established. Research in the Johnson Matthey Laboratories and at AERE Harwell, aimed at meeting the demand for more effective catalysts, has resulted in a new genera…

CANDU Fuel–Power Ramp Performance Criteria

W. J. Penn、R.K. Lo、J.C. Wood1977-07-01Nuclear Technology

Extensive fuel performance data obtained from Canadian Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) power reactors and experimental reactors are analyzed. Various modes of power ramping that cause fuel defects are identified, and fuel defect criteria are derived. The probability of a defect occurring in a power ramp is found to depend o…

Surface modification of polymers and practical adhesion

H. Schonhorn、H. L. Frisch、George L. Gaines1977-07-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract The, nature of polymer surfaces has received increasing attention as the use of these materials, in a variety of forms, increases yearly. Modifications of polymer surfaces for adhesion, friction, and diffusion oriented appiications have necessitated a careful analysis of the surfade region morphology (surface…

Green's-function theory of the ferroelectric phase transition in potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP)

Venkatraman Ramakrishnan、Tomoyasu Tanaka1977-07-01Physical review. B, Solid state

The method of the two-time Green's function is applied to the investigation of the ferroelectric phase transition in K${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$P${\mathrm{O}}_{4}$. The zero-frequency difficulties are circumvented by means of the fermion Green's function. It is shown that the softening of the mixed mode and the onset of stati…

Effect of Phase Separation on HF Etch Rate of Borosilicate Glasses

M. Tomozawa、Takeshi Takamori1977-07-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Etch rates of borosilicate glasses in HF were studied as a function of heat‐treatment time and temperature for liquid‐in‐liquid phase separation. It is shown that, when the phase‐separated glass has an interconnected microstructure, the composition of the chemically less durable phase is the dominant factor in HF dura…

A fourier transform infrared spectroscopic investigation of polyethylene single crystals. II. Fine structure of the CH2 rocking mode

Paul C. Painter、John R. Havens、W. W. Hart 等 4 位作者1977-07-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Physics Edition

Abstract The application of the spectral subtraction routine to an analysis of the CH 2 rocking mode of polyethylene single crystals is discussed. A difference band at 716 cm −1 characteristic of a local monoclinic arrangement of chains is detected. Oxidation of crystal mats by nitric acid indicates that these defect…

Raman Spectroscopic Study of the Structural Phase Transitions in K2SnCl6

J. Pelzl、P. Engels、R. Florian1977-07-01physica status solidi (b)

Abstract Raman spectra of K 2 SnC1 6 are investigated in the temperature range between 50 and 300 K. The observed low temperature spectra are compatible with the proposed monoclinic structure. Two bands that exhibit a soft behaviour are assigned to a zone center and zone boundary rotational mode, respectively. It is s…

Kohn anomaly in the 1T2phase of TaS2

K.R.A. Ziebeck、B. Dörner、W. G. Stirling 等 4 位作者1977-07-01Journal of Physics F Metal Physics

Neutron scattering studies on the 1T 2 phase of TaS 2 at room temperature reveal a strong Kohn anomaly in the longitudinal phonon mode propagating in the (100) direction. The anomaly occurs at a wavevector 0.27a* comparable to the radius of circles of diffuse intensity seen in electron diffraction patterns. The elasti…

Crystal size distribution dynamics in a classified crystallizer: Part II. Simulated control of crystal size distribution

James R. Beckman、Alan D. Randolph1977-07-01AIChE Journal

Abstract Control of sustained limit‐cycle instability in crystal size distribution (CSD) was simulated for a class II (high yield) crystallizer equipped with a fines destruction system and product classifier. Control was simulated by proportional control of nuclei density using fines destruction rate as the manipulate…

Determining the periodic response of nonlinear systems by a gradient method

M. Nakhla、F. H. Branin1977-07-01International Journal of Circuit Theory and Applications

Abstract For systems of differential equations of the form ẋ = f(x) or x = f(x, t ) , a periodic response may be identified by the requirement that x( kT ) = x(0) , where k = 1, 2, … and T is the period, x(0) = x 0 being the initial‐condition vector. We describe a gradient method for finding this x 0 vector by minimiz…

Relative rates of nickel diffusion and copper diffusion through gold

Harland G. Tompkins、M. R. Pinnel1977-07-01Journal of Applied Physics

The low-temperature diffusion of nickel through gold has been evaluated using Auger electron spectroscopy. Samples used were printed-wiring-board fingers having a nickel ’’diffusion barrier’’ plated between the copper substrate and the cobalt-hardened gold contact surface. A coefficient was determined for diffusion vi…

Order-parameter symmetries for the phase transitions of nonmagnetic secondary and higher-order ferroics

P. Tolédano、J. C. Tolédano1977-07-01Physical review. B, Solid state

A theoretical investigation is presented of the order-parameter symmetries of all possible secondary and higher-order ferroic transitions, (nonmagnetic). These structural phase transitions, which are neither ferroelectric nor ferroelastic, involve the onset of a spontaneous macroscopic quantity represented by a polar…
