Preparation of Strontium Ferrite Particles by Spray Pyrolysis

Yoshihide Senzaki、James Caruso、Mark J. Hampden‐Smith 等 5 位作者1995-11-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Crystalline, submicrometer strontium ferrite powders, including SrFeO 2.97 , SrFe 2 O 4 , Sr 2 FeO 4 , Sr 3 Fe 2 O 6.16 , and SrFe 12 O 19 , were prepared by spray pyrolysis of an aqueous solution of mixed metal nitrates. The Sr:Fe mole ratio in the precursor solution was retained in the final products. Phase‐pure mat…

Significance of non-central forces in atomistic studies of grain boundaries in bcc transition metals

A. G. Marinopoulos、V. Vítek、A. E. Carlsson1995-11-01Philosophical magazine. A/Philosophical magazine. A. Physics of condensed matter. Structure, defects and mechanical properties

The effects of non-central forces in atomistic studies of grain boundaries in molybdenum and tungsten, the transition metals with half-filled d-band, are investigated. For this purpose we have used two different types of potential which include different number of moments of the local density of electronic states when…

Wetting and layering transitions in liquid crystals

A. M. Somoza、L. Mederos、D. E. Sullivan1995-11-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

Interfacial structure in the isotropic phase of a liquid-crystalline material near a wall is studied by a mean-field density-functional theory. With increasing strength of the wall anchoring potential, the theory predicts a first-order transition from incomplete to complete wetting by the smectic-A phase at bulk isotr…

Examination of Factors Influencing Promotion of H Absorption into Metals by Site‐Blocking Elements

Gregory Jerkiewicz、J. J. BORODZINSKI、W. Chrzanowskia 等 4 位作者1995-11-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Renewed interest in absorption of H and D into transition metals has been stimulated by current work on metal‐hydride anodes for rechargeable batteries and by the intense interest in recently studied anomalous phenomena associated with absorption of D into Pd. One principal problem in this field is how site‐blocking e…

P. Zuliani、M. Del Zoppo、Chiara Castiglioni 等 7 位作者1995-11-01The Journal of Physical Chemistry

In this work we have studied the vibrational (relaxation) contributions beta(r) and gamma(r) to molecular nonlinear optical (nlo) properties of polyenovanillins, a class of push-pull molecules with increasing number n of conjugated CC bonds (n = 1, 3, 4, 5). Both experiments and ab initio calculations have been carrie…

Hypersound anomalies and elastic constants in single-crystal PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3 by Brillouin scattering

Chi‐Shun Tu、V. Hugo Schmidt、I. G. Siny1995-11-01Journal of Applied Physics

The longitudinal (LA) and transverse (TA) Brillouin spectra along [001] phonon direction have been measured as a function of temperature (50–475 K) in single-crystal PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3 with scattering angles θs=180° and 32.5±0.2°. The Brillouin frequency shift with decreasing temperature shows a broad softening anomaly fo…

The B Form to Z Form Transition of Poly(dG-m5dC) Is Sensitive to Neutral Solutes Through an Osmotic Stress

Richard S. Preisler、H. Chen、M. F. Colombo 等 6 位作者1995-11-01Biochemistry

Several neutral solutes, ranging in size from methanol to a tetrasaccharide, stachyose, are shown to stabilize the left-handed Z form of the methylated polynucleotide poly(dG-m5dC). The action of these solutes is consistent with an osmotic stress, that is, with their effect on water chemical potentials coupled to a di…

Statistics of avalanches in martensitic transformations. I. Acoustic emission experiments

Eduard Vives、Ismael Ràfols、Lluı́s Mañosa 等 5 位作者1995-11-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

We present an experimental study of the transformation avalanches taking place during a thermally induced thermoelastic martensitic phase transition of a Cu-Zn-Al alloy. We have studied the statistical distribution of amplitudes and durations of the acoustic emission signals released in the avalanches and found them t…

Random copolymers as effective compatibilizing agents

Dilip Gersappe、Anna C. Balazs1995-11-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

We introduce a mean field model that allows us to determine the interfacial behavior of AB random copolymers. Through this model, we calculate the reduction in interfacial tension \ensuremath{\gamma} that occurs when the random copolymers localize at the interface between immiscible homopolymers A and B. We also isola…

High-temperature dynamics in glass-forming liquids

Alexei P. Sokolov、W. Steffen、E. A. Rössler1995-11-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

The light scattering spectra of several recently investigated glass-forming systems are reanalyzed. The analysis shows that for both fragile and nonfragile glass-forming liquids, there is some general scenario for the dynamics at high temperatures that seems to follow the qualitative scenario suggested by the mode-cou…
