Bi-directional diffusion induced grain boundary motion with triple junctions

Harald Garcke、Vanessa Styles2004-09-30Interfaces and Free Boundaries Mathematical Analysis Computation and Applications

We propose a multi-order parameter phase field system and a sharp interface model to describe bi-directional diffusion induced grain boundary motion in the presence of triple junctions. Numerical approximations of the models are presented together with some computational results.

Online monitoring of crevice corrosion with electrochemical noise

G. Schmitt、K. Moeller、Peter Plagemann2004-09-30Materials and Corrosion

Abstract The time‐related cumulated noise charges extracted from the noise signals between two “identical” crevice electrodes yield a direct quantitative easy‐to‐interpret information on time‐related corrosion intensities in the crevice. A new software‐assisted method of noise data evaluation allows a “counting of cou…

Softening of wood polymers induced by moisture studied by dynamic FTIR spectroscopy

Margaretha Åkerholm、Lennart Salmén2004-09-30Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract The softening of the wood polymers is very important in the utilization of wood fiber products. To better to understand how the hemicelluloses interact with the other wood polymers in the fiber ultrastructure and contribute to the mechanical properties of the wood, their softening inside the cell wall of pulp…

The luminescence of synthetic rare earth (RE)-doped zircons and three natural zircons has been studied by ion beam excitation (ion beam luminescence or ionoluminescence (IL)). Luminescence results from electronic transitions between energy levels of the RE ions, giving emissions with characteristic energies. Studies o…

Thermal Coarsening of Supported Palladium Combustion Catalysts

J.G. McCarty、G. Malukhin、Damodara M. Poojary 等 5 位作者2004-09-30The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

An essential property of combustion catalysts is long-term (>8000 h) stability at high temperatures in an environment (approximately 1 atm of both oxygen and water vapor) that aggressively promotes sintering of the supporting oxide and coarsening of the active component. Extrapolation of accelerated coarsening rate me…

Itay Levin、Moshe Giladi、Neta Altman‐Price 等 5 位作者2004-09-30Molecular Microbiology

Whereas tetrahydrofolate is an essential cofactor in all bacteria, the gene that encodes the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) could not be identified in many of the bacteria whose genomes have been entirely sequenced. In this communication we show that the halophilic archaea Halobacterium salinarum and Haloarcula…

Molecular Origins of Selectivity in the Reduction of NOx by NH3

Donghai Sun、William F. Schneider、James B. Adams 等 4 位作者2004-09-30The Journal of Physical Chemistry A

The fundamental principle underlying the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO x to N 2 is the promotion of reactions of reductant with NO x over competing, and thermodynamically preferred, reactions with a large excess of O 2 . A similar competition between NO x and O 2 exists in the noncatalytic, thermal reducti…
