Role of rhenium in Pt‐Re‐Al2O3 reforming catalysis—An integrated study

K. Jothimurugesan、Arpan Kumar Nayak、Geeta Mehta 等 6 位作者1985-12-01AIChE Journal

Abstract The inclusion of Re in Pt‐Re‐Al 2 O 3 reforming catalysts to improve the lifetime is known, but how rhenium functions and how it is disposed in the catalyst remain unclear. These fundamental questions have been attempted in this study by the use of proton‐induced X‐ray emission and Rutherford backscattering s…

Ultrasonic study of molecular association of poly(vinyl chloride) solution in tetrahydrofuran

Subhi Kemal Hassun、Suham H. F. Al‐Madfai、Mustafa M. F. Al‐Jarrah1985-12-01British Polymer Journal

Abstract Ultrasonic absorption, velocity, adiabatic compressibility, relaxation time and relaxation amplitude measurements are reported on poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) solution in tetrahydrofuran (THF) using pulsed ultrasonic apparatus operating at 2 MHz and 313 K. Results show a linear increase of velocity. density, vi…

PHOTOCHROMISM. SYNTHESIS AND PROPERTIES OF INDOLINOSPIROBENZOTHIOPYRANS

Seiichi Arakawa、Hirofumi Kondo、Jun’etsu Seto1985-12-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract Novel photochromic compounds, indolinospirobenzothiopyrans, were prepared and their properties in polymer films were examined. The absorption bands of the colored form lie around 100 nm deeper in the long-wave region of the spectrum than are the case with the common spiropyrans.

Nematic liquid crystals in a stochastic magnetic field: Spatial correlations

M. San Miguel1985-12-01Physical Review A

The stationary spatial correlations of the director field of a nematic liquid crystal near the Freedericksz transition in a magnetic field with a time-dependent random component are studied by means of a stochastic dynamical model. A correlation length is shown to diverge at a shifted instability point.

A plastic flow induced fracture theory forK iscc

S. V. Nair、J. K. Tien1985-12-01Metallurgical Transactions A

In this paper a theory is developed for K iscc based on hydrogen induced fracture due to plastic flow on a localized scale within the crack-tip plastic zone. The theory is qualitatively and quantitatively consistent with experimental data on the influence of yield strength and hydrogen content on the threshold level a…

Intumescent silicate‐based materials: Mechanism of swelling in contact with fire

E.M. Bulewicz、Anna Pelc、Ryszard Kozłowski 等 4 位作者1985-12-01Fire and Materials

Abstract An intumescnt material has been developed, based on alkali silicates, which can be used in fire protection in the form of sheets or boards which can be joined to various materials, ranging from wood and wood products to metal. The swelling of the material on heating to over 100°C or on contact with a flame is…

Tenfold twins in a rapidly quenched NiZr alloy

Wen Jiang、K. Hei、Yukun Guo 等 4 位作者1985-12-01Philosophical magazine. A/Philosophical magazine. A. Physics of condensed matter. Structure, defects and mechanical properties

Tenfold twins have been found in a splat-quenched NiZr alloy by selected-area electron diffraction, dark-field and high-resolution electron microscopy. The NiZr phase has a C-centred orthorhombic lattice and the twinning plane is either (110) or (100) with an angle of about 36° between these two planes. The relationsh…

Comparison of the sulfation rates of calcium, magnesium and zinc oxides with SO2 and SO3

D. Kocaefe、Deniz Karman、F.R. Steward1985-12-01The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering

Abstract The sulfation rates of reagent grade calcium and zinc oxides and technical grade magnesium oxide with sulfur trioxide and sulfur dioxide ‐ oxygen mixtures have been measured thermogravimetrically. Experiments have been conducted to determine the rate of reaction for various particle radii (0.071‐0.151 mm), te…

Numerical analysis of solid and liquid diffusion in microsegregation of binary alloys

András Roósz、E. Halder、Hans Eckart Exner1985-12-01Materials Science and Technology

A numerical method has been devised which enables the simultaneous changes of solute distribution in the solid and the liquid in the solidifying volume between secondary dendrite arms to be described. Simplifying assumptions are made in the geometric model, but not of solid or liquid diffusivities. A previously used f…

Microstructures and orientation relationships in the dry-state aragonite–calcite and calcite–lime phase transformations

John W. McTigue、Hans‐Rudolf Wenk1985-12-01American Mineralogist

The aragonite-calcite and calcite-lime transformations are observed in situ in the high voltage transmission electron microscope. Above 400C aragonite single crystals begin to transform into calcite through heterogeneous nucleation on dislocations, twin boundaries, and modulated microstructures. Subsequent growth is g…

Energy calibration secondary standards for X‐ray photoelectron spectrometers

Stephen D. Evans1985-12-01Surface and Interface Analysis

Abstract The selection of elementary calibration standards for X‐ray photoelectron spectrometers is discussed; it is suggested that Zn and Ga may be more satisfactory routine single‐element standards than Cu, Ag or Au. Binding energies for the 2p 3/2 and 3d photoelectron peaks from elemental Zn, Ga (and Ge) and for th…

Dislocations and the plasticity of ionic crystals

P. Haasen1985-12-01Materials Science and Technology

Some recent developments in the dislocation theory of plastic deformation in ionic crystals are reviewed. It has been found that the Peierls force operates on slip planes of type {110} and {00l}, that interactions between dislocations and point defects are different on these planes, that point defects are produced by…

G. Smart、T. Clayton1985-12-01Clay Minerals

Abstract Interstratified illite-smectites from Carboniferous sediments from the Alston and Askrigg blocks and the intervening Stainmore trough of the northern Pennines, UK, were examined by XRD. Both blocks are underlain by Caledonian granites. During late Carboniferous times sediments overlying the Alston block were…
