The effect of alkali metals added to Cu ion-exchanged Y-type (Cu-NaY) zeolite catalysts on the oxidation activity and the selectivity is investigated using the gas-phase catalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohol as a model reaction. The added alkali metals such as K have been found to promote significantly the catalytic o…
Explosive shock compression of poly(methineimine) produced a large portion of amorphous graphitic carbon nitride of composition CN 0.2 and small amounts of diamond-like carbon containing a slight amount of nitrogen. Codeposition of the two materials suggests the possibility of cubic phase transformation of heterocycli…
The interfacial reaction between (Pr 0.8 Sr 0.2 ) y MnO 3 (PSM, y=0.9, 1.0, 1.05) film and 3 mol% yttria tetragonal zirconia (TZ3Y) substrate has been studied at 1200 and 1400°C in air. A diffusion layer of Pr and Mn in zirconia, which was identified to be a cubic phase of zirconia, was detected in all specimens. When…
The kinetics of the electron transfer self-exchange reaction [Fe3O(O2CCMe3)6(py)3]+ + [Fe3O(O2CCMe3)6(py)3] ⇄ [Fe3O(O2CCMe3)6(py)3] + [Fe3O(O2CCMe3)6(py)3]+ have been measured by NMR line broadening. Both reactants are paramagnetic and it was possible to measure broadening of lines of each component by exchange with t…
The exchange of chloride ion by phosphate ions in [Zn-Al-Cl] layered double hydroxide was investigated using X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. The effects of the pH of the solution containing the phosphate ions on the ion exchange was studied. The best sample in terms of crystallinity, was obtained at pH 8.…
This paper deals with the analysis of the generated torque of the hysteresis motor using finite element method, The material property of the hysteresis ring in the hysteresis motor is characterized by the asymmetric two dimensional magnetic permeability tensor. The torque has been computed effectively by using permeab…
The XPS spectra of Gibbsite were collected with a VSW HA150 using monochromatic Al Kα x-radiation. Monochromatic radiation provides a distinct clarity to the peak structure in the valence band of Gibbsite due to the absence of interfering x-ray satellites from the intense O 2s region. Variations in the intensities and…
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was employed for the in situ study of the interactions between thermally deposited Al atoms and polyaniline films of different intrinsic oxidation states. Quantitative changes in the N 1s core-level line shape, the evolution of the Al 2p core-level spectra, and the changes in surface s…
At temperatures below 150 K in rigid glycerol glasses, [Rh(III)(s-NN) 3 ](PF 6 ) 3 complexes display a 3 ππ* phosphorescence characteristic of the s-NN ligand [s-NN = 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), 4-Mephen, 4,7-Me 2 phen, and 3,4,7,8-Me 4 phen]. Above 150 K but below the melting point of glycerol, a temperature-dependen…
Several new push-pull azobenzene dyes were synthesized by diazonium salt coupling of electron-poor anilines with N,N-dialkylanilines. Their dipole moments and first-order hyperpolarizabilities were evaluated respectively from the concentration dependence of the dielectric constant of solutions in apolar solvents and b…
Results are reported for a plate impact investigation of the flow behavior of soda-lime glass. A 5 μm thick layer of soda-lime glass is sandwiched between two hard, elastic Hampden steel plates and impacted by another steel plate. The impact is skewed with respect to the direction of travel of the flyer plate in order…
By means of in-material stress gauges, failure waves in shock-compressed soda lime glass have been shown to be distinguished by a marked reduction in shear stress. To explore further the relation between failure waves and shearing resistance, a series of pressure-shear impact experiments have been performed involving…
Oxygen content of bearing steel will be reduced to below 3 ppm in the year 2000 if current trend for the reduction of oxygen in the steel continues. As a result, size of oxide inclusions will become smaller and the fatigue life will be doubled. From the viewpoint of life prediction, cleanliness evaluation methods curr…
In recent years there have been tremendous advances in the fields of chemistry, physics and biology which have a direct impact on advances in biomaterials science. Many areas of healthcare depend upon the development of novel biomaterials. This book contains contribution from scientists who have made numerous innovati…
In the mean{ eld approximation, assuming the linear concentration dependence of the thermodynamic potential coe cients and taking into account the higher harmonics of spatial order parameter modulation in the incommensurate phase and interaction between order parameter and elastic deformation, the temperature and conc…
Carbon-silica dual phase filler (CSDP filler) differs in many aspects from the traditional fillers currently used in rubber compounds. According to the characterization with different analytical techniques, this material consists of two phases, the carbon phase with finely divided silica domains dispersed therein. In…
The surface state of as-prepared AlN powders produced by direct nitridation and carbothermal methods was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray excited Auger electron spectroscopy (XAES). In the as-prepared AlN powders, small peaks assigned to imide and amide groups were detected in the N1s…
The engineering and material properties of controlled low-strength material (CLSM) can be altered through the use of air-modifying additives, thereby broadening potential end-uses for CLSM. Air-modified low-water content CLSM retains the compressibility, shear, load-bearing, and flowability characteristics of non-air-…
Solutions of celtulose (Cell) in dimethylacetamide (DMAc)/lithium chloride (LiCl) solvent are spun and annealed. The resulting fibers show various polymorphs with the different coagulants and annealing temperatures. Prior to annealing, as-spun fibers show Cell III morphology without differentiating the kind of coagula…
