LARGE INDUCED CIRCULAR DICHROISM OF METHYL ORANGE BOUND TO CHIRAL BILAYER MEMBRANES. ITS EXTREME SENSITIVITY TO THE PHASE TRANSITION AND THE CHEMICAL STRUCTURE OF THE MEMBRANE

Naotoshi Nakashima、Hiroshi Fukushima、Toyoki Kunitake1981-09-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract Large circular dichroism is induced when Methyl Orange is bound to the bilayer membrane of chiral dialkyl amphiphiles and the magnitude of the induced circular dichroism is changed drastically by the gel-to-liquid crystal phase transition and the chemical structure of the membrane.

Mössbauer study of glauconites from Poland

A. Kotlicki、J. Szczyrba、A. Wiewióra1981-09-01Clay Minerals

Abstract Four bands occur in the Mössbauer spectra of pelletal glauconites ranging in age from Cambrian to Oligocene. Components due to Fe 3+ in the cis M(2) positions are visible in all the spectra but their shapes depend on the expanding layer content. In the spectrum of the Oligocene glauconite a very well-develope…

G. Cavarretta、Annibale Mottana、Francesca Tecce1981-09-01Mineralogical Magazine

Abstract Cesanite occurs both as a solid vein (1 cm thick) and as a cavity-filling of an explosive breccia in core samples of the Cesano 1 geothermal well (Cesano area, Latium, Italy). Cesanite is coloudess, medium to coarse grained, soft (H = 2 to 3) and light ( ρ meas 2.786±0.002 g cm −3 ). It is uniaxial negative,…

Degradation of abnormal proteins in peptidase-deficient mutants of Salmonella typhimurium

Charles G. Miller、L Green1981-09-01Journal of Bacteriology

The degradation of abnormal proteins produced as a result of incorporation of the arginine analog L-canavanine or generated by exposure to puromycin was studied in wild-type and multiply peptidase-deficient strains of Salmonella typhimurium. Both types of abnormal protein were rapidly degraded during growth of Pep+ st…

Cubic-tetragonal elastic phase transformations in solids

J. D. Axe、Y. Yamada1981-09-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

The cubic-tetragonal transformation driven by the elastic instability $({C}_{11}\ensuremath{-}{C}_{12})\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0$ may be followed by further rearrangements in which $\frac{c}{a}>1$ changes to $\frac{c}{a}<1$ or vice versa. These transformations are investigated by Landau theory. Unlike the cubic-…

Shapes of pores in metals

P.J. Goodhew1981-09-01Metal Science

In this overview a wide variety of pores, including gas bubbles, irradiation-induced voids, and creep cavities, are considered. The factors which govern the shape of a pore are discussed and equations from which the ultimate thermodynamic equilibrium shape of a cavity can be deduced are presented. However, it is point…

Effect of Hydrogen on the Apparent Yield Stress—Research on the Cause of Hydrogen Induced Delayed Plasticity

Wu‐Yang Chu、Shiqun Li、Chi‐Mei Hsiao 等 4 位作者1981-09-01CORROSION

The effect of hydrogen on the apparent yield stress, which is a necessary exterior stress to cause the local macroscopic plastic deformation, was investigated for various carbon and low alloy steels with a wide range of tensile strength. Smooth tensile, bent beam, and precracked WOL specimens were used. The results sh…

Chemistry of metal halide lamps: a review

Dale E. Work1981-09-01Lighting Research & Technology

Metal halide lamps are complex high temperature chemical systems which are neither closed (with respect to material flow) nor well defined thermochemically. This complexity, coupled with the commercial importance of this lamp type, has spurred the development of several models which attempt to describe the chemical (a…
