Studies of the polyanions by Glauber-salt cryoscopy. Part I. Polyanions of tungsten

Deepali Jain、S.K. Dogra1966-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society A Inorganic Physical Theoretical

Depression in the transition temperature of Glauber's salt due to the presence of WO42– and its polyanions have been measured at different pH values. The average degrees of condensation calculated from these measurements indicate the existence of mono-, tri-, and hexa-polytungstates. Polymerisation towards WO3 takes p…

Curling of crystals of 2,5-di-t-butyl-1,4-dimethoxybenzene during growth

J. M. Blatchly、N. H. Hartshorne1966-01-01Transactions of the Faraday Society

A further study has been made of the curling during growth of thin crystal plates of 2,5-di-t-butyl-1,4-dimethoxybenzene, and this behaviour has been related to the approximate structure of the compound deduced from its optical properties. It is suggested that the curling may be due to differential adsorption of the s…

Physicochemical studies of some cyclic carbonates. Part IV. A redetermination of the rates of alkaline hydrolysis of ethylene and propylene carbonates

Adel Saadi、W. H. Lee1966-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society B Physical Organic

By means of high-frequency conductance measurements, the rates of the alkaline hydrolyses of ethylene and propylene carbonates have been determined at 15, 25, and 35°. The rate constants found are considerably greater than those previously reported, and a source of error in the earlier determinations is discussed. The…

Seiichi Nishikawa、Kazuo Nagata、Shigeyoshi KOBAYASHI1966-01-01Journal of the Japan Institute of Metals and Materials

The processes of precipitation in Cu-Cr binary alloys with 0.05∼0.91 wt%Cr have been investigated by electrical resistivity, hardness and transmission electron microscopy, with the following results: (1) Increase in electrical resistivity due to clustering of solute atoms or zone formation is not detected at above/300…

Hélène Paquet、Gérard Bocquier、Georges Millot1966-01-01Bulletin du Service de la carte géologique d Alsace et de Lorraine

The study of the clay minerals in the Tchad solodized solonetzes and in the associated vertisols has been realized by X-ray diffraction analysis. The neoformation, stability and weathering of the montmorillonites characterizing these soils are herein described.

Anisotropy of the Static Friction of Plain-woven Filament Fabrics

Masayasu Ohsawa、Satoru Namiki1966-01-01Journal of the Textile Machinery Society of Japan

The relationship between the geometrical structures of plain-woven filament fabrics and the directional effect of fabric-on-fabric static friction has been investigated with the following results:(1) Frictional force F per unit area for every relative direction of rubbing is related to pressure N by the relation F=kNn…

Resistance Heated Crystal Puller for Operation at 2000°C

T. B. Reed、R. E. Fahey1966-01-01Review of Scientific Instruments

A resistance heated crystal puller has been used to grow crystals of NbO, Ti2O3, and Al2O3, which have melting points of 1945, 2000, and 2050°C, respectively. The puller incorporates a modified version of a tantalum tube furnace described previously, which is capable of operating in oxidizing, neutral, and reducing at…

Constituents of Asclepiadaceae Plants. XVII. Components of Cynanchum wilfordi HEMSLEY

Hiroshi Mitsuhashi、Kensuke Sakurai、Taro Nomura 等 4 位作者1966-01-01Chemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin

The roots of Cynanchum wilfordi HEMSLEY were found to contain a glycoside mixture. The glycosides showed a positive Keller-Kiliani reaction, suggesting the presence of a 2-deoxysugar. The sugar portion of the glycoside was found to be D-cymarose. The aglycone was shown to be an ester. Alkaline hydrolysis of the ester…

Plastic Behavior of Metals at Cryogenic Temperatures

Eric B. Kula、T. S. DeSisto1966-01-01OpenAlex

The serrated yielding exhibited by metals during tension tests at temperatures near absolute zero is the principal consideration of this paper. Stress-strain curves are presented for various metals including Armco iron, “K” Monel, and titanium at temperatures from +200 to −269 C. The variations of yield stress and duc…

Magnetic Properties of Eu3O4

F. F. Y. Wang1966-01-01physica status solidi (b)

Abstract A new Eu 3 O 4 preparation method is described. Eu 3 O 4 is produced by the solid state reaction between Eu and Eu 2 O 3 . Static magnetic susceptibility measurements were made by the Faraday method from 6 to 300°K. Eu 3 O 4 was found to be ferrimagnetic with a Curie point of 77 °K.

Rectangular waveguides loaded with magnetised ferrite, and the so-called thermodynamic paradox

G. Barzilai、Gino Gerosa1966-01-01Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers

The so-called thermodynamic paradox associated with a ferrite-loaded rectangular waveguide is discussed. It is shown that the various structures introduced by some authors to resolve the paradox are, even in the limit case, different structures from the original one leading to the paradox, and therefore they do not he…

Parent Material‐Clay Relations in Some Northern Utah Soils

A. R. Southard、R. W. Miller1966-01-01Soil Science Society of America Journal

Abstract It is frequently stated that soils with well‐developed A and B horizons are sufficiently weathered that their clays will reflect strongly the influence of the climatic environment. Studies of three profiles developed from sedimentary rock materials in northern Utah show a high association between parent mater…

Plastic deformation of diamond at temperatures below 1800°c

T. Evans、R. K. Wild1966-01-01Philosophical magazine

The plastic deformation of type II diamond plates has been examined by three-point loading at temperatures between 1700 and 1550°c. Plastic bending was produced at 1700°c but the degree of bending at a particular stress was less than with experiments at 1800°c which have been reported. No plastic deformation was detec…

B. M. Chadwick、A. G. Sharpe1966-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society A Inorganic Physical Theoretical

The prediction of ligand-field theory that for low-spin octahedral complexes the size should decrease along the series Cr(III), Mn(III), Fe(III), and Co(III) has been examined by comparing the lattice constants of the complex cyanides of formula K3MIII(CN)6; a steady decrease along the series provides substantial evid…
