X-ray photoelectron spectra of some gold compounds

Alistair McNeillie、Donald H. Brown、W. Ewen Smith 等 5 位作者1980-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Dalton Transactions

The X-ray photoelectron spectra of a range of gold complexes with halide, phosphine, and thiol ligands is reported. Gold(I) and gold(III) complexes can readily be distinguished for each type of ligand. The use of this result is illustrated by following the decomposition of [NEt4][AuBr4] on exposure to the X-ray beam.…

Single crystals of poly(tetramethylene adipate)

Ram Minke、John Blackwell1980-01-01Journal of Macromolecular Science Part B

Single crystals of poly(tetramethylene adipate) (PTMA,-[O-(CH2)4-O-CO-(CH2)4-CO]n-) have been prepared by precipitation from solution and by epitaxial deposition on suitable substrates. The crystals grown from solution exhibited two distinct morphologies: most of the crystals were diamond-or truncated diamond-shaped,…

Oxygen Effect in the Radiolysis of Proteins

H. Schuessler、Anna Herget1980-01-01International Journal of Radiation Biology and Related Studies in Physics Chemistry and Medicine

Dose survival curves of lactate dehydrogenase irradiated under aerobic and anaerobic conditions show a sensitizing effect of oxygen for the inactivation of the enzyme. The oxygen effect in the radiolysis of lactate dehydrogenase was analysed by gel filtration and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Under anaerobic con…

Effects of Recoil on Shake-Up Spectra in Metals

Lars Hedin1980-01-01Physica Scripta

An infinite summation method is used to obtain the intrinsic photoemission spectrum of a conduction electron in the sudden limit. It is predicted that an electron at the bottom of the conduction band should have an asymmetry index comparable to that of a core electron and that the strengths of its plasmon satellites s…

Ronald F. Ziolo、C. H. Griffiths、J. M. TROUP1980-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Dalton Transactions

The crystal structure of the title compound has been determined from three-dimensional X-ray diffractometer data. Crystals are triclinic, space group P, with Z= 2 in a unit cell of dimensions a= 12.027(6), b= 12.571(8), c= 8.690(5)Å, α= 96.04(5), β= 94.80(5), and γ= 68.20(5)°. The structure was solved by direct and Fo…

Stability and several physical properties of amorphous and crystalline forms of indomethacin.

Hiroyuki Imaizumi、Naoki Nambu、Tsuneji Nagai1980-01-01Chemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin

An X-ray diffraction method for determination of the degree of crystallinity of indomethacin was established, and the transition rate of indomethacin from amorphous to crystalline form was investigated. The transition of the amorphous form to crystalline form at 20°, 30°and 40°followed first-order kinetics and the Arr…

Frozen-in states of orientational and positional disorder in molecular solids

Hiroshi Suga、S. Seki1980-01-01Faraday Discussions of the Chemical Society

It has previously been shown that the ordinary liquid–glass transition is just one example of a class of “glass transitions” due to loss of equilibrium which may occur widely in metastable phases of condensed matter. In the present paper, glass-transition phenomena occurring in stable crystalline phases of SnCl2.2H2O,…

The collimating and magnifying properties of a superconducting field photoelectron spectrometer

G. Beamson、H. Q. Porter、D. W. Turner1980-01-01Journal of Physics E Scientific Instruments

An analysis is given of the possible advantages of a photoelectron spectrometer based upon the properties of the axially symmetric inhomogeneous magnetic field of a superconducting solenoid. The consequences of electron motion along the solenoid axis are discussed and it is shown that this can lead to a novel high-res…

An experimental model for studying the effect of anisotropy on percolative conduction

F. Carmona、F. Barreau、P. Delhaès 等 4 位作者1980-01-01Journal de Physique Lettres

We present preliminary measurements of the electrical conductivity of a composite made of small conducting rods in an insulating matrix. It constitutes a model material for studying the effect of anisotropy on percolation as a function of particle length to diameter ratio. We can interpret our results, especially the…

Thin-Layer Drying and Rewetting Equations for Shelled Yellow Corn

M. K. Misra、D. B. Brooker1980-01-01Transactions of the ASAE

ABSTRACT THIN-LAYER drying and rewetting data for shelled yellow corn have been compiled from all available sources. A thin-layer drying equation was developed us-ing these data with air temperature, air humidity, air velocity and corn initial moisture content as the indepen-dent variables. A thin-layer rewetting equa…

Thermal cis–trans isomerization of cis–transoidal polyphenylacetylene

Cristofor I. Simionescu、Virgil Percec1980-01-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Chemistry Edition

Abstract Solution and solid‐state thermal cis‐trans isomerization of cis–transoidal polyphenylacetylene was investigated. At temperatures higher than 120°C, cis‐trans thermal isomerization in solution is accompanied by cyclization, aromatization, and scission of the polymer chain. Both spectral and kinetics data showe…

Continuous Drawing of Liquids to Form Fibers

Morton M. Denn1980-01-01Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics

The mechanics of certain sheet formation and sheet and wire coating operations are quite similar, as are the mechanics of the formation of glass fibers. Most published experimental and theoretical w…

Morphology-property relationships in polycarbonate-based blends. II. Tensile and impact strength

Takao Kunori、P. H. Geil1980-01-01Journal of Macromolecular Science Part B

The tensile and Izod impact strength of polycarbonate (PC) based polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS) blends has been examined. The tensile strength can best be described as being proportional to an exponential function of the volume fraction of PE and the first power of volume fraction of PS. The variation of Izod…

Raman investigation of vitreous and molten boric oxide

G. E. Walrafen、S. R. Samanta、P. N. Krishnan1980-01-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

Raman data have been obtained for vitreous and molten B2O3 from −196 to 1594 °C. A ΔH° of 6.4±0.4 kcal/mole boroxol was obtained from the temperature dependence of ratios of integrated Raman intensities. This heat is thought to correspond to the transformation of BO3 triangles in boroxol rings, to BO3 triangles in a r…
