Mode of conjugation in homothallic cells of Schizosaccharomyces pombe.

Hisao Miyata、Machiko Miyata1981-01-01The Journal of General and Applied Microbiology

When homothallic cells of Schizosaccharomyces pombe were plated on agar sporulation medium, a few residual divisions were usually observed before induction of conjugation and sporulation. Four cells resulting from the last two residual divisions were usually lined; the "four-lined-cell" formed. Each four-lined-cell co…

Transfer inside pairs of Pr3+ in LaF3 studied by up-conversion fluorescence

R. Buisson、Jean‐Claude Vial1981-01-01Journal de Physique Lettres

Experimental results are reported which show for the first time a transfer inside pairs of ions after their selective excitation by a pulsed laser. This transfer is studied in Pr3+ : LaF3 by monitoring the time dependence of an up-conversion fluorescence. The results show that two mechanisms must be considered, depend…

A new type of smectic A phase with long range modulation in the layers

G. Sigaud、F. Hardouin、M. F. Achard 等 4 位作者1981-01-01Journal de physique

In a binary isobaric diagram there appears an intermediate smectic phase between a monomolecular smectic A phase and a bimolecular one. By means of several techniques evidence is given for this new mesophase with a liquid-like short range ordering. Some considerations about the long range structure of this novel fluid…

A deuterium NMR study of the discotic mesophase of hexa-hexyloxytriphenylene

D. Goldfarb、Z. Luz、H. Zimmermann1981-01-01Journal de physique

The discotic liquid crystalline mesophase of p-n-hexa-hexyloxytriphenylene was studied using deuterium NMR spectroscopy. Spectra of two selectively deuterated isotopic species were recorded : (i) in which all aromatic positions were substituted, and (ii) in which the substitution was made in the α-carbon side-chains.…

Dielectric relaxation in a ferroelectric liquid crystal

Ph. Martinot-Lagarde、G. Durand1981-01-01Journal de physique

We present an analytic calculation of the normal modes of distortion induced by a small transverse A.C. electric field on a ferroelectric liquid crystal close to its transition temperature Tc between the smectic A and C* phases. These normal modes are superpositions of electric polarization and angular molecular disto…

NIH shift in haemin–iodosylbenzene-mediated hydroxylations

Chi K. Chang、Fujio Ebina1981-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Chemical Communications

Iron(III) and manganese(III) porphyrins catalyse the oxygen transfer from iodosylbenzene to aromatic substrates to yield phenolic products; the resultant p-methoxyphenol or p-cresol exhibits a marked NIH shift.

Resolution Limits of PMMA Resist for Exposure with 50 kV Electrons

A. N. Broers1981-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

An electron beam with a diameter below 1 nm has been used to measure the resolution of PMMA. Test patterns are written in 30 nm thick PMMA layers coated onto 60 nm thick membrane substrates. Both lateral scattering of electrons in the resist and backscattering from the substrate are negligible for these samples. Preli…

Energy levels of nickel, Ni I through Ni XXVIII

Charles Corliss、Jack Sugar1981-01-01Journal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data

The energy levels of the nickel atom in all of its stages of ionization, as derived from the analyses of atomic spectra, have been critically compiled. In cases where only line classifications are reported in the literature, level values have been derived. Electron configurations, term designations, J-values, experime…

Structural relations between lyotropic phases in the vicinity of the nematic phases

Y. Hendrikx、J. Charvolin1981-01-01Journal de physique

« Nematic lyotropic » phases are anisotropic fluids made of aggregates of amphiphilic molecules dispersed in water. Their nematic behaviour (flow, orientation in a magnetic field) is related to the orientational correlations between the aggregates which are anisotropic particles of finite dimensions. Therefore they ar…

The Thermal Degradation and EP Performance of Zinc Dialkyldithiophosphate Additives in White Oil

R. C. Coy、R.B. Jones1981-01-01A S L E Transactions

The oil-soluble degradation products formed in heated samples of oil containing zinc di(n-, iso- or s-butyl)dithiophosphate (ZDTP) additives have been identified using 1H and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The final degradation product in each case is S,S,S-trialkyltetrathiophosphate, SP(SR)3. The interm…

Furutobeite, a new copper˗silver˗lead sulfide mineral

Asahiko Sugaki、Arashi Kitakaze、Yoshitsugu Odashima1981-01-01Bulletin de Minéralogie

Furutobeite, (Cu, Ag)₆PbS₄ is a new sulfide species discovered at the Furutobe mine, Akita Prefecture, Japan. It occurs only as minute (< 0.3 mm) grains intimately associated with stromeyerite, galena, sphalerite and tennantite in bornite from upper part of the stratabound sulfide ore zone consisting of sphalerite, ga…

Metastable SrSiO3 was formed during the course of the reaction between an equimolar mixture of SrCO3 and SiO2. The reaction was found to proceed in four stages, (1)–(4). The overall reaction of (1) and (2) was best described 2 SrCO3+ SiO2→ Sr2SiO4+ 2 CO2(1), SrCO3+ SiO2→ SrSiO3(metastable)+ CO2(2), SrSiO3(metastable)…

Crystal aggregates with induced morphologies grown by silica gel technique

Juan Manuel Garcı́a-Ruiz、José Luis Amorós Portolés1981-01-01Bulletin de Minéralogie

This paper deals with the genetic mechanism of the morphologies present in BaCO₃and CaCO₃ grown by silica gel technique at basic pH. Our results show that a siliceous matrix acting as support induces the whole morphology of the aggregate. Earlier, the existence of such a membrane was inferred from physico-chemical con…

Interaction of alcohols with evaporated metal films. Part 2.—Adsorption and decomposition of ethanol on metal films of nickel, palladium and aluminium

Dhia Al-Mawlali、J. M. Saleh1981-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Faraday Transactions 1 Physical Chemistry in Condensed Phases

The interaction of ethanol with clean and oxidized films of Ni, Pd and Al has been investigated in the temperature range 223–450 K. Dissociative adsorption of ethanol on the clean surfaces took place even at 223 K. Reversible molecular adsorption of ethanol occurred on oxidized Al films. Adsorption of ethanol on Ni an…

Antony B. Blake、Ahmad Yavari、Henry Kubicki1981-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Chemical Communications

Complexes [Fe2IIIMIIO(MeCO2)6py3]py (M = Mg, Mn, Co, Ni, or Zn; py = pyridine), isomorphous(except for M = Ni) with the mixed-valence compounds [M3O(MeCO2)6py3]py (M = Mn or Fe), are reported; their magnetic properties provide new information about superexchange pathways in the trinuclear basic carboxylate system.

James E. Ferl、Edward R. Long1981-01-01IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science

Infrared spectroscopic techniques have been used to study the effects of electron radiation on the polyimide PMDA-p, p'-ODA. The radiation exposures were made at various dose rates for a total dose approximately equal to that for 30 years of exposure to electron radiation in geosynchronous Earth orbit. At high dose ra…
