Calculation of resistance for weak scattering, strong scattering and insulating quasi-one dimensional systems

A. Löser2004-09-07arXiv

A parameter free calculation of the resistivity is applied to liquid metals near the melting point ranging from weak to strong scattering limit. The method is based on length dependent resistance calculations for quasi-one dimensional systems and was applied on structures with up to 10000 atoms. The calculated value f…

Chain-reaction cascades in surfactant monolayer buckling

A. Gopal、V. A. Belyi、H. Diamant 等 5 位作者2004-09-07arXiv

Certain surfactant monolayers at the water-air interface have been found to undergo, at a critical surface pressure, a dynamic instability involving multiple long folds of micron width. We exploit the sharp monolayer translations accompanying folding events to acquire, using a combination of fluorescence microscopy an…

Site‐Specific Photodeposition of Silver on ZnO Nanorods

Claudia Pacholski、Andreas Kornowski、Horst Weller2004-09-07OpenAlex

Head–tail-like nanoheterostructures consisting of ZnO nanorods and silver nanoparticles (see picture) are assembled by site-specific photoreduction of silver ions at the surface of pre-formed ZnO nanorods. Several mechanisms for this process are discussed.

Polycarbonate/Montmorillonite Nanocomposites Prepared by Microwave‐Aided Solid State Polymerization

Youngjae Yoo、Kil‐Yeong Choi、Jae Heung Lee2004-09-06Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics

Abstract Summary: Polycarbonate/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites were prepared by microwave solid‐state polymerization. The MMTs were modified with alkyl ammonium salt. Pre‐intercalated polycarbonate nanocomposite was prepared using two conventional methods; a melt process and a solution process. Melt processing w…

Replica-molded electro-optic polymer Mach–Zehnder modulator

George T. Paloczi、Yanyi Huang、Amnon Yariv 等 5 位作者2004-09-06Applied Physics Letters

A Mach–Zehnder electro-optic polymer amplitude modulator is fabricated by a simple and high-throughput soft-stamp replica-molding technique. The modulator structure incorporates the highly nonlinear and stable chromophore, AJL8, doped in amorphous polycarbonate. Single-arm phase-retardation results in a halfwave volta…

Influence of overlayer thickness on the density of Lomer dislocations in nanoscale Ni–Cu bilayer thin films

David Mitlin、Amit Misra、T. E. Mitchell 等 5 位作者2004-09-06Applied Physics Letters

We report on the evolution of the spacing and the character of misfit dislocations with increasing Ni overlayer thickness at an (001) Ni–Cu interface. At low Ni overlayer thicknesses (3 and 5nm), most of the interface dislocations are 60°1∕2⟨110⟩ glide dislocations, while Lomer edge dislocations constitute only about…

Thickness scaling of polycrystalline Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 films downto 35nm prepared by metalorganic chemical vapor depositionhaving good ferroelectric properties

Takahiro Oikawa、Hitoshi Morioka、Atsushi Nagai 等 5 位作者2004-09-06Applied Physics Letters

Polycrystalline Pb(Zr0.35Ti0.65)O3 [PZT] films were prepared at 540°C by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). Lower leakage and lower voltage-saturated 50-nm-thick PZT films were deposited on (111)Ir∕TiO2∕SiO2∕Si substrates than those on (111)Pt∕TiO2∕SiO2∕Si substrates. Moreover, low leakage current and goo…

Large magnetostriction in Fe100−xAlx(15⩽x⩽30) melt-spun ribbons

Z. H. Liu、Gang Liu、Mei Zhang 等 9 位作者2004-09-06Applied Physics Letters

Magnetostriction of Fe100−xAlx(15⩽x⩽30) al1oys has been largely improved by using melt-spun method. The large magnetostriction up to −700ppm obtained in Fe81Al19 sample is about 5 times as large as that in conventional bulk samples of Fe–Al composition. It has been ascribed to the high concentration of Al–Al atom pair…

Silver solid solution piezoelectrics

Ilya Grinberg、Andrew M. Rappe2004-09-06Applied Physics Letters

Using density functional theory calculations, we investigate the feasibility of using silver on the perovskite A-site in high-performance lead-free piezoelectrics. The calculations show that silver atoms are ferroelectrically active and can off-center by 0.5Å. To induce Ag ferroelctric behavior absent in pure AgNbO3 w…

Effect of Thermal Degradation on Glass Transition Temperature of PMMA

Katrin Wondraczek、Jörg Adams、Jürgen Fuhrmann2004-09-06Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics

Abstract Summary: For industrial polymer applications, the structure‐property relation during thermal treatment is of high interest. If a polymer is degraded, its molecular structure will alter, and its mechanical properties are affected as well; thus limiting the usability. The objective of this paper is to highlight…
