Harmonics from Transformer Saturation

H.W. Dommel、Andrew Yan、Wei Shi1986-01-01IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery

Saturation effects in transformers and shunt reactors can produce harmonics in power systems. Their magnitude can sometimes be found with an electromagnetic transients program, by going from an approximate linear ac steady-state solution directly into a transient simulation in which the nonlinear effects are included.…

An analytical function for absorption correction

Chuji Katayama1986-01-01Acta Crystallographica Section A Foundations of Crystallography

A new analytical function is proposed for absorption correction. It is expressed by surface harmonics with polar angles that specify the primary and secondary beam directions. This function has an advantage over Fourier expansion because it is rotationally invariant. Two empirical, methods are used to determine the ex…

High-energy resolution electron spectrometer for 1-nm spatial analysis

Philip E. Batson1986-01-01Review of Scientific Instruments

A Wien Filter electron spectrometer has been successfully combined with a dedicated scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) to obtain an energy resolution of 140 meV with a specimen collection semiangle of 25 mR at 100 keV. A cold-field emission electron source is used to produce a 0.35–10-nm-size electron be…

Solvability condition for needle crystals at large undercooling in a nonlocal model of solidification

B. Caroli、C. Caroli、B. Roulet 等 4 位作者1986-01-01Physical Review A

We show explicitly that, in a realistic model of diffusion-controlled dendritic solidification, Ivantsov's continuous family of steady-state needle crystals is destroyed by the addition of surface tension. Our starting point is the exact integro-differential equation for the one-sided model, in two dimensions, in a mo…

Melt rheology of high density polyethylene/polyamide‐6 blends

L. A. Utracki、M. M. Dumoulin、Petru-Vlad Toma1986-01-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract Commercial high density polyethylene and polyamide‐6 (PA) resins were melt blended in the Brabender Plasticorder twin‐screw extruder. The blends containing zero to 30 wt percent of polyamide‐6 were examined in dynamic and steady state shear at 150, 200, and 250°C. The Theological test results are discussed in…

Near-edge structure in electron-energy-loss spectra of MgO

Th. Lindner、Hermann Sauer、W. Engel 等 4 位作者1986-01-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

Electron-energy-loss spectra of all core-level absorption edges of MgO microcrystals were recorded in the transmission mode using 60-keV electrons. The low-noise signal attained at a resolution of 0.5 eV reveals details of fine structure in the near-edge region. The spectra obtained were analyzed by the application of…

Cell surface characteristics of coagulase-negative staphylococci and their adherence to fluorinated poly(ethylenepropylene)

A. H. Hogt、J. Dankert、C E Hulstaert 等 4 位作者1986-01-01Infection and Immunity

The ability of 21 nonencapsulated and 15 encapsulated coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) to adhere to xylene in xylene-water emulsions and to fluorinated poly(ethylenepropylene) (FEP) films revealed remarkable differences. Nonencapsulated CNS strains adhered well to FEP, whereas their adherence to xylene ranged wi…

A New Actuator of a Joint Mechanism Using TiNi Alloy Wire

Katsutoshi Kuribayashi1986-01-01The International Journal of Robotics Research

A new actuator of a joint mechanism is proposed, composed of two TiNi alloy wires. First, the static and dynamic properties of the TiNi alloy wire that were not known are analyzed. Then the mathemati cal model of the actuator is induced. Next, the control sys tems of the actuator are synthesized by pulse width modu la…

Si(001)-2×1 Single-Domain Structure Obtained by High Temperature Annealing

Tsunenori Sakamoto、Gen Hashiguchi1986-01-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

Si(001)-2×1 single-domain structure has been observed by reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) after a substrate annealing at a temperature of 1000°C for 20 min. This implies surface steps have been changed from monatomic layer to biatomic layer height by the annealing. It was found that the single-domai…

In vitro Formation of Hybrid Fibrils of Type v Collagen and Type I Collagen Limited Growth of Type I Collagen Into Thick Fibrils by Type V Collagen

Eijiro Adachi、Toshihiko Hayashi1986-01-01Connective Tissue Research

Type V collagen and type I collagen were obtained from human placentas by pepsin treatment, followed by salt fractionation. The precipitates formed at 37 degrees C from a mixed solution of type V collagen and type I collagen, reacted with antibodies to either type V collagen or type I collagen. The precipitates seen b…

Experimental determination of the random-parking limit in two dimensions

George Y. Onoda、E. Liniger1986-01-01Physical Review A

The two-dimensional random-parking limit is the area fraction of a plane covered by circles when the circles are added sequentially in a random way, without overlap, until no further circles can be added. As yet, no analytical solution exists for this limit. Several computer simulations and one experimental study have…
