Crystal Structure of (Pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)- (π-η5:σ-η1-tetramethylfulvene)titanium(III)

J. Fischer、Warren E. Piers、Victor G. Young1996-04-30Organometallics

The crystal structure of the paramagnetic derivative (pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)(tetramethylfulvene)titanium(III) (Cp*FvTi) is reported. The structural data confirm the previously surmised π-η 5:σ-η 1 bonding mode for the tetramethylfulvene ligand.

The hexasilsesquioxanes (RSiO 1.5 ) 6 ( 1, R = 1,1,2-trimethylpropyl; 2, R = tert -butyl) were synthesized by a new method: condensation of the corresponding silanetriol, RSi(OH) 3, or 1,1,3,3-tetrahydroxydisiloxane, (HO) 2 RSiOSiR(OH) 2, using dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) as a dehydrating reagent in DMSO or DMF.

Design of inorganic compounds with tetrahedral anions

Bogdan I. Lazoryak1996-04-30Russian Chemical Reviews

The review deals with aspects of the modelling of the compositions and properties of inorganic compounds with tetrahedral anions on the basis of crystal-chemical information. One of the possible algorithms employing crystal-chemical data for the modelling of the compositions, structures, and properties of new compound…

Modification of poly(vinyl alcohol) with acid chlorides and crosslinking with difunctional hardeners

V. Giménez、Ángel R. Mantecón、Virgínia Cádiz1996-04-30Journal of Polymer Science Part A Polymer Chemistry

The reaction of acid chlorides with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) leads to vinyl alcohol-vinyl ester copolymers. The esterification by Schotten-Baumann enables degrees of modification to be reached which depend on the chemical structure of the pendant unit introduced. High degrees of modification were obtained in the reac…

Waterborne polyurethanes and their properties

Byung Kyu Kim、Jong Cheol Lee1996-04-30Journal of Polymer Science Part A Polymer Chemistry

Anionomer-type waterborne polyurethanes (PUs) were obtained from poly(β-methyl-δ-valerolactone) glycol (PMVL) and isophorone diisocyanate, following a prepolymer mixing process. The soft-hard segment phase separation in response to the variations of composition and structure of PU has been studied from the dynamic mec…

<title>Memory effect in filled nematic liquid crystals</title>

Anatoliy Glushchenko、H. Kresse、Yuri A. Reznikov 等 4 位作者1996-04-29Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE

Dependences of an irreversible response (memory effect) of suspension 'liquid crystal -- aerosol' on the ingredient's properties and electric field parameters are investigated. The experimental results are discussed in the frame of a model of a network organization of aerosol in a nematic liquid crystal.

Observation of Large Momentum Phononlike Modes in Glasses

C. Masciovecchio、Giancarlo Ruocco、F. Sette 等 7 位作者1996-04-29Physical Review Letters

The dynamic structure factor of glycerol and LiCl:6${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$O glasses, measured by inelastic x-ray scattering, shows modes dispersing linearly with momentum in the 2-8 ${\mathrm{nm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ region. This finding demonstrates that acousticlike propagating modes can exist in glasses up to wavelengths…

Polymer Reaction Kinetics at Interfaces

Ben O’Shaughnessy、Uday Sawhney1996-04-29Physical Review Letters

We study polymer reaction kinetics at interfaces. The interface of width $h$ increments the effective dimensionality by 1: Rate constants $k$ obey scaling laws as for 4-dimensional bulk reaction problems. For groups with small reactivity $Q$, $k\ensuremath{\sim}h$ and is independent of molecular weight $N$. For large…

Diffusion-Controlled Reactions at Polymer-Polymer Interfaces

Glenn H. Fredrickson1996-04-29Physical Review Letters

A theory is presented for the diffusion-controlled coupling of end-functionalized $A$ and $B$ homopolymers at an $A\ensuremath{-}B$ interface. The effective reaction rate coefficient ${k}_{e}$ is shown to exhibit a surprising degree of universality associated with the small center-of-mass diffusivity of high molecular…

The role of quantum-confined excitons vs defects in the visible luminescence of SiO2 films containing Ge nanocrystals

K. S. Min、K. Shcheglov、C. M. Yang 等 6 位作者1996-04-29Applied Physics Letters

Synthesis of Ge nanocrystals in SiO2 films is carried out by precipitation from a supersaturated solid solution of Ge in SiO2 made by Ge ion implantation. The films exhibit strong room-temperature visible photoluminescence. The measured photoluminescence peak energy and lifetimes show poor correlations with nanocrysta…

A thorough study of the low-temperature magnetic state of polycrystalline $({\mathrm{Tb}}_{1/3}{\mathrm{La}}_{2/3}{)}_{2/3}{\mathrm{Ca}}_{1/3}{\mathrm{MnO}}_{3}$ has been carried out. This perovskitelike compound is an insulator at low temperatures and shows an insulator-metal transition under magnetic field. All the…

We present electrical measurements of single Au and CdSe nanocrystals. The devices are fabricated using a hybrid scheme which combines electron beam lithography and wet chemistry to bind nanocrystals in tunneling contact between two closely spaced metallic leads. The current–voltage characteristics of these devices ex…

G.A.J. Amaratunga、S. Ravi P. Silva1996-04-29Applied Physics Letters

Field emission measurements using 0.3 μm thick nitrogen containing hydrogenated amorphous carbon films (a-C:H:N) on n++-Si cathodes are reported. Onset emission fields as low as 4 V μm−1 have been obtained using a flat plate anode configuration. Uniform emission is observed over the entire cathode area at current dens…

Magnetic susceptibility of insulators from first principles

Francesco Mauri、Steven G. Louie1996-04-28arXiv

We present an {\it ab initio} approach for the computation of the magnetic susceptibility $χ$ of insulators. The approach is applied to compute $χ$ in diamond and in solid neon using density functional theory in the local density approximation, obtaining good agreement with experimental data. In solid neon, we predict…

Ana Santa、Alberto Mazzoldi、C. Tonci 等 5 位作者1996-04-26Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE

Several porous material systems (e.g.. hydrogels, conducting polymers, electrorheologic fluids) make possible a control of their properties in response to an appropriate stimulus (and viceversa) and therefore. they belong to the class of intelligent materials. In the present paper we propose a first classification of…
