Las pérdidas de polvo en los hornos rotatorios de cemento
Se analizan algunos procedimientos tanto para evitar la formación de polvo en los hornos rotatorios como para recuperarlo, en el caso de haberse producido.
Good blasting practice can improve community relations
Este procedimiento de realizar voladuras evitan los lanzamientos de rocas, las vibraciones del suelo y la onda explosiva.
Chain scissions in a polymer network
Abstract Relations between the soluble fraction and the number of effective chains between crosslinks in a three‐dimensional network undergoing a scission reaction have been derived. Three limiting cases have been considered: (a) random scission in the chains, (b) scission in the chains directed by the crosslinks, and…
Electrolytic Shaping of Germanium and Silicon
Properties of electrolyte-semiconductor barriers are described, with emphasis on germanium. The use of these barriers in localizing electrolytic etching is discussed. Other localization techniques are mentioned. Electrolytes for etching germanium and silicon are given.
The absorption spectra of natural and irradiated diamonds
Abstract The absorption spectra of fifty-two natural diamonds have been measured at 80 and 290°K. Type I diamonds are shown to have two kinds of absorption centres which are not detected in type II diamonds. Differences in the infra-red absorption spectra between type IIa and type IIb diamonds are reported. The classi…
Infrared Absorption and Oxygen Content in Silicon and Germanium
An optical absorption band at 9\ensuremath{\mu} has been correlated with the oxygen content in silicon. Pulled silicon crystals were found to contain up to ${10}^{18}$ oxygen atoms per ${\mathrm{cm}}^{3}$ which seem to originate from the quartz crucible. The oxygen concentration in silicon crystals prepared by the flo…
The tensile properties of single crystals of high-purity iron at temperatures from 100 to ─253°C
Abstract An account is given of the deformation and fracture characteristics of single crystals of high-purity iron of various orientations when tested in tension at temperatures from 100 to ─253°C. At temperatures down to ─124°C, the crystals were fully ductile, giving chisel-edge fractures and 100% reduction in area…
A Theory of Flame-Retardant Finishes
A survey of the newer flame retardants suggests a simple theory for their constitu tion. The molecule should be water-insoluble to achieve durability in laundering. A solvent-soluble organic molecule is therefore proposed. The ortho-phosphate group should be present in the molecule to dehydrate catalytically the cellu…

Thermal expansion of binary alkaline-earth borate glasses
The thermal expansivity of a number of calcium, strontium , and barium borate glasses are reported. The ex pansivity of the calcium and strontium borates increases with increasing alkaline-earth oxide concentration.Th e expansivity of the barium borate glasses is a m inimum at about 20 mole percent of barium oxide. The…

Ferromagnetic Domain Nucleation in Silicon Iron
Powder deposit patterns obtained by the authors on single crystals of 3% silicon iron are consistent with a description of the processes of domain phase creation in terms of nucleation at inclusions in the surfaces. Domain nucleation is discussed in relation to various magnetic properties.

Heterogeneity in Montmorillonite
Abstract X-ray diffraction patterns and cation-exchange data are presented for centrifuged Wyoming bentonite to demonstrate the heterogeneous nature of montmorillonite. It has been shown that in the bentonite samples studied, the montmorillonite can be separated into at least two fractions. One phase consists of essen…
