Heat capacity, relative enthalpy, and calorimetric entropy of silicate minerals; an empirical method of prediction

Gilpin R. Robinson、John L. Haas1983-06-01OpenAlex

A procedure to estimate the standard molar heat capacity, relative enthalpy, and calorimetric entropy of silicate minerals has been devised and evaluated. These are estimated by summing, in appropriate proportions, fictive molar isobaric heat capacities, relative enthalpies, and entropies evaluated for structural comp…

Vimentin filaments are assembled from a soluble precursor in avian erythroid cells.

Ingrid Blikstad、Elias Lazarides1983-06-01The Journal of Cell Biology

The synthesis and assembly of vimentin was studied in erythroid cells from 10-d-old chicken embryos. After various periods of [35S]methionine incorporation, cells were lysed in a Triton X-100-containing buffer and separated into a soluble and an insoluble (cytoskeletal) fraction. Analysis of these two fractions by two…

Processing‐Related Fracture Origins: III, Differential Sintering of ZrO 2 Agglomerates in Al 2 O 3 /ZrO 2 Composite

F. F. Lange、B. I. Davis、I. A. Aksay1983-06-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Large, hard ZrO 2 agglomerates remained in an Al 2 O 3 /ZrO 2 composite suspension after inefficient ball‐milling. The ZrO 2 agglomerates shrank away from the consolidated Al 2 O 3 /ZrO 2 powder matrix during sintering, producing crack‐like voids which were responsible for strength degradation.

Abstract A series of polypropylene (PP)/nylon 6 (N6) blends of composition 75/25, 50/50, and 25/75 have been prepared in a screw extruder combined with a Koch static mixer. The phase morphology was observed with a scanning electron microscope. The influence of heating in the reservoir of a rheometer followed by subseq…

Activity/Composition Relations among Silicates and Aqueous Solutions: II. Chemical and Thermodynamic Consequences of Ideal Mixing of Atoms on Homological Sites in Montmorillonites, Illites, and Mixed-Layer Clays

Per Aagaard、Harold C. Helgeson1983-06-01Clays and Clay Minerals

Abstract The activities of thermodynamic components of clay minerals corresponding in composition to pyrophyllite, muscovite, paragonite, and margarite were computed from chemical analyses reported in the literature assuming ideal mixing of atoms on homological sites in the minerals. These activities were then used to…

Primary and secondary structure of hamster vimentin predicted from the nucleotide sequence.

Yvonne Quax‐Jeuken、Wim J. Quax、H. Bloemendal1983-06-01Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

The nucleotide sequence of two recombinant plasmids containing hamster vimentin cDNA was determined. The sequence comprises 1,640 base pairs and reveals virtually the total primary structure of vimentin and a large part of the 3' noncoding region. Secondary structure prediction methods allow the characterization of tw…

Unipolarity of Tgs-crystals induced in paraelectric phase

T. R. Volk、С. В. Медников、L. A. Shuvalov1983-06-01Ferroelectrics

The unipolar structure that is the steady self-biased hysteresis loop can be created by the electrothermal annealing in the paraelectric phase of pure TGS-crystals grown in the ferroelectric phase. It also occurs in X-irradiated TGS and TGS-Cr. The formation of unipolarity in all these crystals is due to the same spec…

The pyrolysis and nonflaming oxidative degradation of poly(vinylfluoride)

Dale A. Chatfield1983-06-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Chemistry Edition

Abstract The thermal degradation of poly(vinylfluoride) (PVF) was studied under slow heating conditions to 1000°C with and without the presence of air. The degradation products, classified as low‐boiling volatiles, high‐boiling volatiles, and nonvolatile residues, were analyzed quantitatively by gas chromatography—mas…

Optical absorption and thermoluminescence in LiF TLD-100

Linda V.E. Caldas、M. R. Mayhugh、Thomas G. Stoebe1983-06-01Journal of Applied Physics

The thermoluminescent (TL) properties of many LiF samples have demonstrated a strong influence on trace impurities and impurity content on the TL process. Hence, the general validity of any particular model must be tested against its applicability in a standard material such as Harshaw LiF (TLD-100). In this paper the…

Abstract Polarized Raman spectra of oriented single crystals of KClO 4 performed over a large temperature range (300–800 K) have been used to investigate the mechanism of the 583 K phase transition. It is shown that the transition can be described using an order parameter and a mechanism based on the reorientation of…

By using the isolobality principle, it is shown that the electronic structures of the 4- through 9-atom organo-transition metal clusters are closely analogous to the corresponding boranes. This parallelism is extended beyond simple structural similarities and is used to account for the high reactivity and nmr fluxiona…
