Formation Entropy of Schottky Defects and Free Formation Enthalpy of Vacancy Pairs in Alkali Halide Crystals

W. Bollmann1982-01-01Crystal Research and Technology

Abstract The melting of alkali halides occurs probably at a critical mole fraction x c = 3.2 · 10 −4 of thermally created vacancies (Schottky defects). Using this value the formation entropy of Schottky defects is found to be s S = (962.1 K mol/kJ L/ T m – 16.1) k ( L, T m heat and temperature of fusion, respectively)…

Thermal-shock behavior of zirconia-based solid electrolyte for use in steelmaking processes.

Masanori Iwase、Michiharu Yamamoto、Masashi Tanida 等 4 位作者1982-01-01Transactions of the Iron and Steel Institute of Japan

The thermal-shock behavior of ZrO2-CaO and ZrO2-MgO pellets was investigated by immersing these pellets into liquid iron without preheating temperature or with preheating temperature. The moduli of rupture before and after the thermal-shock were measured by a three point bending technique. A good thermal-shock resista…

Stepwise Complexometric Determinations of Calcium and Magnesium in Lime and Magnesia Bearing Materials

Subrata Dasgupta、B. C. Sinha、N.S. Rawat1982-01-01Transactions of the Indian Ceramic Society

A simple and rapid complexometric method for stepwise titration of calcium and magnesium, when present in unfavourable ratios, has been successfully worked out. The method is based on the direct titration of calcium of pH 12 with EDTA, using thymolphthaleincalcein indicator. The adsorption of metallochromic indicator…

Effect of high‐temperature treatment in air on the surface area and porous texture of zirconium dioxide prepared by thermal decomposition of the nitrate

C. Otero Areán、José M. Fernández‐Colinas、Andrés Mata Arjona 等 4 位作者1982-01-01Journal of Chemical Technology & Biotechnology

Abstract Zirconium dioxide, prepared by thermal decomposition of zirconium nitrate, was heated in air at temperatures ranging from 573 to 1023 K. An analysis of nitrogen adsorption‐desorption isotherms on the resulting materials allowed determination of the corresponding specific surface area and porous texture. All o…

Thermodynamics of the incongruently subliming niobium-tin system

Robert A. Schiffman、Donald M. Bailey1982-01-01OSTI OAI (U.S. Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information)

The niobium-tin system was investigated in the temperature range 1261-2076 K by measurement of tin vapor pressures with a simultaneous weight loss-mass-spectrometric technique. For the reaction Nb + 1/3Sn ..-->.. NbSn/sub 1///sub 3/, ..delta..H/sub f//sup 298/ was found to be -21.59 kJ/mol. The heat of solution of tin…

Influence of Various Factors on the Precipitation Behavior of σ Phase in Duplex Phase Stainless Steels

Yasuhiro Maehara、Nobukatsu Fujino、Tatsuro Kunitake1982-01-01

Basic Theory of Elasticity and Viscoelasticity

Julian F. V. Vincent1982-01-01OpenAlex

In the physically stressful environment there are three major ways in which a material can respond to external forces. It can add the load directly on to the forces which hold the constituent atoms or molecules together. This occurs in simple crystalline (including polymeric crystalline) and ceramic materials, and suc…

Fracture of Corn Endosperm in Bending Part I. Fracture Parameters

Luiz A. Balastreire、F. L. Herum、Karl K. Stevens 等 4 位作者1982-01-01Transactions of the ASAE

ABSTRACT TWO fracture parameters were determined for corn horny endosperm as influenced by moisture content and temperature. Kernels were cut into beam-shaped speciments and stressed in simple 3-point loading. Stress concentrations were varied by placing notches of several depths at the center of the tension side. Fra…

Abstract An electron microscope observation was made on the binary Sm‐Co alloy. One‐dimensional lattice images of Sm 5 Co 19 taken with the incident beam parallel to the [010] and [110] directions of the hexagonal axis showed many stacking faults. The intergrowth with the Sm 2 Co 7 phase was observed in the matrix of…

Chemical equilibrations with soil buffer systems as bases for future soil testing programs

E. O. McLean1982-01-01Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis

The soil has mechanisms which serve as buffers or ionic reservoirs which remove nutrient ions from and return them to the soil solution and thus regulate their availabilities to higher plants. Yet relative amounts of each type of cation‐exchange bond are evidently so different from soil to soil that basic cation satur…
