Epitaxial films of the full Heusler alloy Co2MnAl were grown on GaAs substrates by molecular-beam epitaxy. The close lattice matching and similar structure to GaAs make this material a good candidate for a spin injector. Magnetization measurements reveal complex ferromagnetic transitions near the Curie point at TC≃800…

Pseudoelasticity of shape-memory titanium–nickel films subjected to dynamic nanoindentation

X.-G. Ma、K. Komvopoulos2004-05-07Applied Physics Letters

Surface force microscopy was used to examine the dynamic indentation response of austenitic titanium–nickel (TiNi) films sputtered on oxidized silicon substrates. Results demonstrate the significance of indentation cycles, time at maximum contact load, and loading/unloading rate on the nanoscale pseudoelastic behavior…

Hiroaki Kato、T. Miyazaki、Masato Sagawa 等 4 位作者2004-05-07Applied Physics Letters

An influence of a high-field annealing on the magnetic properties was investigated in sintered Nd–Fe–B magnets. When the sample B, containing 0.32 at. % Al, was annealed at Ta=550 °C under a magnetic field of Ha=140 kOe and then cooled without field, the coercivity Hc increased by 25% with respect to the control sampl…

Qihua Yang、Ying Li、Lei Zhang 等 6 位作者2004-05-07The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Aluminum was incorporated into the mesoporous framework of ethane−silica by one-pot condensation of Al(O i Pr) 3 with 1,2-bis(trimethoxysilyl)ethane using octadecyltrimethylammonium chloride as surfactant. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns, nitrogen sorption analysis, and TEM results reveal the formation of an ordered…

Transport in ropes of carbon nanotubes: Contact barriers and Luttinger liquid theory

Th. Hunger、B. Lengeler、Joerg Appenzeller2004-05-07Physical Review B

In this article we report on the conductance of bundles of single-wall carbon nanotubes as a function of temperature and bias voltage. We focus on the nonlinearity in the IV curves near zero bias, i.e., a pronounced conductance dip. While we observe that all temperature dependent data scale onto a single curve, we als…

New Method of Purification of Carbon Nanotubes Based on Hydrogen Treatment

S. R. C. Vivekchand、A. Govindaraj、Md. Motin Seikh 等 4 位作者2004-05-07The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

A novel method for the purification of single-walled and multiwalled carbon nanotubes is described. The method involves acid washing followed by hydrogen treatment in the 700−1000 °C range. While acid washing dissolves the metal particles, the hydrogen treatment removes amorphous carbon as well as the carbon coating o…

Solubility study of polyacrylamide in polar solvents

Shuhui Wu、Robert A. Shanks2004-05-07Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract Contact angles and surface tension data were measured to obtain the surface tension components of polyacrylamide (PAM). According to Van Oss, Chaudhury, and Good (VCG) theory, the surface tension components were used to calculate the PAM solubility in five different polar solvents: water, ethylene glycol (EG)…

Self-Assembly of C3h and Cs Symmetric Keto-enamine Forms of Tris(N-salicyl-ideneanilines) into Columnar Phases: A New Family of Discotic Liquid Crystals

C. V. Yelamaggad、Ammathnadu S. Achalkumar、D. S. Shankar Rao 等 4 位作者2004-05-07Journal of the American Chemical Society

A new class of discotic liquid crystals derived from tris(N-salicylideneanilines) existing exclusively in their C3h and Cs keto-enamine tautomeric forms is reported. These compounds self-assemble to form columnar liquid crystalline phases with a small core-core separation as evidenced by X-ray diffraction studies.
