Using symmetries of grating groove profiles to reduce computation cost of the C method

Lifeng Li2007-03-14Journal of the Optical Society of America A

This work reduces the computation cost of the C method by taking into account the symmetries of grating grooves. All one-dimensionally periodic, single-interface, surface-relief gratings are classified into five categories according to the symmetries of the planar periodic curves describing the interface. The five cat…

We present a study of a family of 40 unique hydroxylated β-cristobalite surfaces generated by cleaving the β-cristobalite unit cell along crystallographic planes to include a combination of several low Miller index surfaces. The surface silicon atoms are quantified as percentages of Q 2 and Q 3 centers based on their…

Suppression of Spinel Formation to Induce Reversible Thermal Behavior in the Layered Double Hydroxides (LDHs) of Co with Al, Fe, Ga, and In

Radha、Grace S. Thomas、P. Vishnu Kamath 等 4 位作者2007-03-14The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

The layered double hydroxides (LDHs) of Co with trivalent cations decompose irreversibly to yield oxides with the spinel structure. Spinel formation is aided by the oxidation of Co(II) to Co(III) in the ambient atmosphere. When the decomposition is carried out under N2, the oxidation of Co(II) is suppressed, and the r…

The pectic polysaccharide named potamogetonan (PN) was obtained using extraction of the leaves and stems of the common pondweed Potamogeton natans L. by an aqueous ammonium oxalate. The purified potamogetonan PN-300 was obtained using membrane ultrafiltration of PN and proved to be pectin with a molecular weight of 30…

Influence of Molecular Orientation and Melt Relaxation Processes on Glassy Stress−Strain Behavior in Polystyrene

P.J. Hine、Alan Duckett、Daniel J. Read2007-03-14Macromolecules

This paper explores the relationship between the level of preferred molecular orientation at different length scales and the subsequent glassy stress/strain behavior of polystyrene. To produce samples with a range of orientation states, samples of a commercial polydisperse polystyrene ( M w = 274 000 g/mol, polydisper…

Spout States in the Selective Withdrawal of Immiscible Fluids through a Nozzle Suspended above a Two-Fluid Interface

Sarah C. Case、Sidney R. Nagel2007-03-14Physical Review Letters

In selective withdrawal, fluid is withdrawn through a nozzle suspended above the flat interface separating two immiscible, density-separated fluids of viscosities nu(upper) and nu(lower) = lambda nu(upper). At low withdrawal rates, the interface gently deforms into a hump. At a transition withdrawal rate, a spout of t…

Sequential Tunneling through Molecular Spin Rings

J. Lehmann、Daniel Loss2007-03-14Physical Review Letters

We consider electrical transport through molecules with Heisenberg-coupled spins arranged in a ring structure in the presence of an easy-axis anisotropy. Pore size distributions in polyelectrolyte multilayers determined by nuclear magnetic resonance cryoporometry

Fabián Vaca Chávez、Monika Schönhoff2007-03-14The Journal of Chemical Physics

Polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEMs) are thin films, which are assembled one molecular layer at a time, by alternatingly adsorbing polycations and polyanions making use of their attractive electrostatic interaction. Since the porosity of PEMs is one of the properties of major interest, in the current work the first pore…
