Analysis of theFe3+−VOCenter in the Tetragonal Phase of SrTiO3

Th. von Waldkirch、K. A. Müller、W. Berlinger1972-06-01Physical review. B, Solid state

The paramagnetic resonance spectrum of the iron oxygen-vacancy (${\mathrm{Fe}}^{3+}\ensuremath{-}{V}_{o}$) pair in the tetragonal $\frac{I4}{\mathrm{mcm}}$ phase of SrTi${\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ at 78 \ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K is analyzed in detail. The spectra observed at $K$ band are fully accounted for using th…

The contribution of grain boundary sliding to axial strain during diffusion creep

W. Roger Cannon1972-06-01Philosophical magazine

Grain boundary sliding is necessary during diffusion creep to maintain continuity across the grain boundaries. In this paper it is shown, by use of a two-dimensional hexagonal array, that grain boundary sliding will contribute additional axial strain to the specimen as predicted by R. N. Stevens (1971). It is shown, h…

X-ray Difraction and Polymorphism of Smectic Liqid Crsystals. II. D and E Modifications

Siegmar Diele、P. Brand、H. Sackmann1972-06-01Molecular crystals and liquid crystals

The X-ray patterns of two new smectic modifications (smectic D and Smectic E) are investigated. The D-modification is potically isotropic. A cubic structure is presumed. In the E-modification the pattern exhibits three sharp outer rings besides the inner irng, which points to a higher order compared withthe A, B and C…

Domains in SmCo5 at Low Temperatures

F. F. Westendorp1972-06-01Applied Physics Letters

Domain spacing in SmCo5 is observed to increase by a factor of 1.5 at 78 K as compared with the spacing at room temperature. This indicates a difference in domain wall energy, which may explain the experimentally found difference in coercive force.

The identification of twins from intensity statistics

E. Stanley1972-06-01Journal of Applied Crystallography

The N(z) distribution, the Wilson ratio and variance values have been determined for the case of twinned crystals where non-equivalent reflexions coincide exactly. The results have been applied to a practical example. The structural reasons for twinning may require that only reflexions occurring at relatively large Br…

Multiple melting transitions in natural rubber

Hyo‐Gun Kim、L. Mandelkern1972-06-01Journal of Polymer Science Part A-2 Polymer Physics

Abstract Detailed studies of the fusion of natural rubber, following isothermal crystallization, has revealed a hitherto undetected low temperature transition which depends on the crystallization temperature. This transition is shown to be a melting phenomenon which is not caused by any polymorphic structural changes.…

USE OF DILUTE CALCIUM CHLORIDE FOR THE EXTRACTION OF PLANT-AVAILABLE ALUMINUM AND MANGANESE FROM ACID SOIL

P. B. Hoyt、M. Nyborg1972-06-01Canadian Journal of Soil Science

A method is proposed for the simultaneous extraction of plant-available Al and Mn from acid soils that consists of shaking the soil in 0.02 M CaCl 2 (1:2 ratio) for 1 hr. The method was developed by comparing the amounts of these elements extracted by different concentrations of the salt and by different extraction ti…

Optical and Dielectric Properties of Water in the Vacuum Ultraviolet

G.D. Kerr、R. N. Hamm、M. W. Williams 等 5 位作者1972-06-01Physical Review A

The optical and dielectric properties of water in the vacuum ultraviolet are presented and discussed. Optical constants at energies up to 14.6 eV were obtained by a Kramers-Kronig analysis using reflectances measured in this study between 9.2 and 14.9 eV and reflectances calculated from data in the literature below 9.…

Influence of Oxide Layers on the Determination of the Optical Properties of Silicon

Herbert R. Philipp1972-06-01Journal of Applied Physics

Experimental reflectance data for silicon are corrected for the presence of a surface oxide layer and analyzed using the Kramers-Kronig relation to yield a set of optical constants for oxide-free silicon. For etched silicon samples exposed to the atmosphere for ∼ 1 h, this layer is 12–15 Å thick and has the approximat…

Critical Surface Energies of Al 2 O 3 and Graphite

S.K. Rhee1972-06-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Based on the wetting properties of a ‐Al 2 O 3 , and pyrolytic graphite by liquid metals, the critical surface energy for spreading was determined and compared with the surface energy of the ceramics. The surface energy γ‐ 8 (ergs/cm 2 ) of the (0001) surface of a ‐Al 2 O 3 is estimated to be 892–0.12 T (°C), that of…
