The defect structure of acceptor‐doped (Fe, Al, Cr) polycrystalline strontium titanate was investigated by measuring the equilibrium electrical conductivity as a function of oxygen activity (10 −21 ≤a o2 ≤1) and temperature (85°C≤ T ≤ 1050°C). The electrical conductivity was n type with ∼−1/4 dependence on a 02 for a…

Coupled SCF perturbation theory has been used to calculate the polarizability α and second hyperpolarizability γ of a number of polyenes. An extended basis CNDO wave function has been employed. Our computational approach is based on optimizing the exponents of a small basis set with respect to the experimental values…

The self-diffusion of oxygen in NiO has been measured under 150 Torr of oxygen between 1100 and 1600°C. Diffusion profiles were determined with secondary-ion mass spectrometry. The values of the self-diffusion coefficients between 1200 and 1600°C are given by D (cm2 s−1)= 50 exp (-5·6 eV/kT).

The adsorption of laterally and polarly flagellated bacteria to chitin was measured, and from the data obtained, a modified Langmuir adsorption isotherm was derived. Results indicated that the adsorption of laterally flagellated Vibrio parahaemolyticus follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, a type of adsorption ref…

A series of ceramic compositions based on variations in the crystal–glass ratio of a mullite body were developed. The thermal expansion of these compositions varies from 3.7 to 5.0×10 –6 /°C to 800°C. The materials are particularly useful for applications involving silicon, in that an identical thermal expansion is av…
