Site-specific Raman spectroscopy and chemical dynamics of nanoscale interstitial systems

H. Peter Lu2005-02-05Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

Site-specific spectroscopy is critical for a molecular-level understanding of the mechanisms and dynamics of the inhomogeneous chemical processes crucial for catalysis, surface and interfacial chemistry, and membrane protein dynamics in living cells. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy and microscopy…

Luminescent properties of Gd2SiO5powder doped with Eu3+under VUV–UV excitation

Yonghu Chen、Bo Liu、Chaoshu Shi 等 7 位作者2005-02-05Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

The luminescent properties of Gd 2 SiO 5 powder crystals doped with Eu 3+ were investigated using synchrotron radiation and a VUV laser (157.6 nm) as excitation sources. The excitation spectra in the range of 160–330 nm monitoring the red emission from Eu 3+ ions reveal bands corresponding to intraconfigurational 4f–4…

Electrochemical Atom-by-Atom Growth of PbS by Modified ECALE Method

Tuba Öznülüer、İbrahim Y. Erdoğan、İlkay Şişman 等 4 位作者2005-02-05Chemistry of Materials

A novel electrochemical process, based on simultaneous underpotential deposition of Pb and S from the same solution containing EDTA, Pb2+, and S2- at a constant potential, is reported. AFM and XRD results indicate that highly crystalline thin films of PbS could be synthesized by this method.

Electrically Addressable Biomolecular Functionalization of Conductive Nanocrystalline Diamond Thin Films

Wensha Yang、Sarah E. Baker、J. E. Butler 等 8 位作者2005-02-05Chemistry of Materials

Electrically addressable biomolecular functionalization of diamond thin films is achieved by growing a conductive diamond thin film on molybdenum electrodes, functionalizing to produce surface nitro groups, and electrochemically reducing the nitro groups on specific diamond-coated electrodes to primary amines. The ami…

Polar optical phonons in wurtzite spheroidal quantum dots: theory and application to ZnO and ZnO/MgZnO nanostructures

Vladimir A Fonoberov、Alexander A Balandin2005-02-05Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

Polar optical-phonon modes are derived analytically for spheroidal quantum dots with wurtzite crystal structure. The developed theory is applied to freestanding spheroidal ZnO quantum dots and to spheroidal ZnO quantum dots embedded into a MgZnO crystal. The wurtzite (anisotropic) quantum dots are shown to have strong…

Introducing Variable Cell Shape Methods in Field Theory Simulations of Polymers

Jean‐Louis Barrat、Glenn H. Fredrickson、Scott Sides2005-02-05The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

We propose a new method for carrying out field-theoretic simulations of polymer systems under conditions of prescribed external stress, allowing for shape changes in the simulation box. A compact expression for the deviatoric stress tensor is derived in terms of the chain propagator, and it is used to monitor changes…

Modeling a Suspended Nanotube Oscillator

Hande Ustunel、David Roundy、T. A. Arias2005-02-05Nano Letters

We present a general study of oscillations in suspended one-dimensional elastic systems clamped at each end, exploring a wide range of slack (excess length) and downward external forces. Our results apply directly to recent experiments in nanotube and silicon nanowire oscillators. We find the behavior to simplify in t…

Interfacial dynamics in demixing systems with ultralow interfacial tension

Dirk G. A. L. Aarts、Roel P. A. Dullens、H. N. W. Lekkerkerker2005-02-05New Journal of Physics

We report measurements on fluid–fluid phase separation in a colloid–polymer mixture, which can be followed in great detail due to the ultralow interfacial tension. The use of the real-space technique, laser-scanning confocal microscopy, leads to clear, well-defined images making quantitative comparisons to theory poss…

Electronic Structure and Band Gaps in Cationic Heterocyclic Oligomers. Multidimensional Analysis of the Interplay of Heteroatoms, Substituents, Molecular Length, and Charge on Redox and Transparency Characteristics

Geoffrey Hutchison、Mark A. Ratner、Tobin J. Marks2005-02-05The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Oxidative doping of extended pi-conjugated polymers and oligomers produces dramatic changes in optical and electrical properties, arising from polaron and soliton-derived midgap states. Despite the great importance of such changes for materials properties, far less is known about the cationic polaron states than about…

Stéphane Roux、Bruno Garcia、Jean‐Luc Bridot 等 10 位作者2005-02-05Langmuir

The use of gold nanoparticles as biological probes requires the improvement of colloidal stability. Dihydrolipoic acid (DHLA), a dithiol obtained by the reduction of thioctic acid, appears therefore very attractive for the stabilization and the further functionalization of gold nanoparticles because DHLA is characteri…
