Optical Constants of Incandescent Refractory Metals

B. T. Barnes1966-11-01Journal of the Optical Society of America

Filaments of semicircular cross section (diam 0.25–0.32 mm) were mounted in bulbs with plane windows. Chopped plane-polarized radiant flux was reflected from the flat surface, then passed through an analyzer whose plane of polarization made a 45° angle with the plane of reflection at the filament. The orientation of t…

A COMMENT ON THE INADEQUACY OF THE CORRELATION BETWEEN PHYLLO-TYPE SPECTRUM AND meso-SUBSTITUTION IN THE PORPHYRIN SERIES

Raymond Bonnett、I. A. D. Gale、G. F. Stephenson1966-11-01Canadian Journal of Chemistry

The empirical correlation between meso-substitution and the phyllo-type spectrum in the porphyrin series is shown to be much less general than had previously been supposed. The variation of the spectrum with the electronic nature of the substituent is discussed.

The Superstructure in Fine Aragonite Particles

Yuzuru Hiragi、Sukeji Kachi、Toshio Takada 等 4 位作者1966-11-01Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan

Abstract An electron diffraction study was done with fine aragonite particles about 0.5 to 1.0 μ in size. The specimens were obtained by mixing a boiled calcium chloride solution (0.1 n) with 0.1 n of an ammonium carbonate solution. Extra spots were observed with half-integer indices {1⁄2,1⁄2,l}. This suggests the exi…

Stress Softening in Carbon Black Reinforced Vulcanizates. Strain Rate and Temperature Effects

G. Kraus、C. W. Childers、K. W. Rollmann1966-11-01Rubber Chemistry and Technology

Abstract Stress softening of carbon black reinforced butadiene styrene rubber was studied as a function of the rate and temperature of the original tensile deformation. To a good approximation, stress softening depends on the product of the extension rate and a temperature function which is analytically well represent…

Identification of Vehicle Tire Rubber in Roadway Dust

R. N. Thompson、Carl A. Nau、Charles H. Lawrence1966-11-01American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal

A technique combining pyrolysis and chromatography for the detection of vehicle tire abrasion products in roadway dust is described. Samples of elastomers used in tire formulations were volatilized and separated by gas-liquid chromatography to provide characteristic chromatograms. These identifying patterns appeared c…

Forces Involved in Ion Fixation by Vermiculite

J. A. Kittrick1966-11-01Soil Science Society of America Journal

Abstract The temperature at which vermiculite loses or gains an interlayer of water molecules was compared for a number of interlayer ion saturations. Results indicate the difference between contracting and expanding forces in vermiculite to be dependent upon interlayer ion charge, distance, and hydration energy. Impo…

On the Eu3+ Fluorescence in Mixed Metal Oxides. V. The Eu3+ Fluorescence in the Rocksalt Lattice

G. Blasse、A. Bril1966-11-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

The fluorescence of phosphors ABO2:Eu(A=Li, Na; B=Sc, Y, In, La, Gd, and Lu) is reported and discussed. The Eu3+ emission is strongly influenced by the crystal surroundings: in the α-NaFeO2 structure the 5D0—7F1 transition dominates; in the α-LiFeO2 structure the 5D0—7F2 transition, although both structures can be der…

Abstract The factors affecting the efficacy of a closely packed bed of mixed cotton and a supporting fiber (Teflon, glass, Dynel) were evaluated for oil‐in‐water dispersions. Several other water‐organic systems were also tested. Superficial velocities ranged from 0.2 to 3.5 ft./min. Successful coalescence was attained…

Inter-Dipolar Interaction in NaNO2

Yasusada Yamada、Takemi Yamada1966-11-01Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

The X-ray diffuse scattering from a crystal of NaNO 2 at temperatures above the Néel temperature is analysed to determine the nature of the inter-dipolar interaction in this substance. By taking the Ising model, the space correlation is calculated with the random phase approximation leaving the coefficients of the sho…

The crystal structure of the high temperature form of barium borate, BaO.B2O3

A. D. Mighell、A. Perloff、S. Block1966-11-01Acta Crystallographica

The crystal structure of the high temperature form of BaO.B203 (m.p. 1095 + 5C) was determined by conventional three-dimensional Patterson and electron-density syntheses. The heavy atom technique was used to establish the initial phases. BaO.B203 crystallizes in the trigonal system, space group R Sc, with 18 formula u…
