Displacive - order-disorder crossover IFI ferroelectrics

François Gervais1984-04-01Ferroelectrics

The temperature dependence of the soft mode components in BaTiO3 and KNbO3 and their contribution to the low-frequency dielectric constant are reexamined under the 1ight of recent hyper-Paman and infrared reflectivity data. Correlated fluctuations are less and less dominant with the decrease of critical dimensionality…

Polypropylene spherulite morphology and growth rate changes in blends with low‐density polyethylene

Andrzej Gałęski、Mariano Pracellà、E. Martuscelli1984-04-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Physics Edition

Abstract Morphological studies of isotactic polypropylene/low‐density polyethlene blends revealed that the shape, size, and orientation of LDPE occlusions remain undisturbed during the crystallization of IPP spherulites. On the other hand, LDPE occlusions introduce large changes in the internal structure of IPP spheru…

A. K. Gupta、S. N. Purwar1984-04-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Study of melt rheological properties of the blends of polypropylene (PP) with styrene–ethylene butylene–styrene block copolymer (SEBS), at blending ratios 5–20% SEBS, is reported. Results illustrate the effects of (i) blend composition and (ii) shear rate or shear stress on melt viscosity and melt elasticity and the e…

Ellipsometry Measurements as Direct Evidence of the Drude Model for Polycrystalline Electrochromic WO 3 Films

David H. Mendelsohn、R. B. Goldner1984-04-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

The optical constants of polycrystalline electrochromic (EC) tungsten trioxide films, prepared by rf sputtering, were measured by ellipsometry at three wavelengths: 940, 633, and 546 nm. For each wavelength, the optical constants were measured at various states of coloration. It is shown that these measurements provid…

Studies on the structure and expression of Escherichia coli pyrC, pyrD and pyrF using the cloned genes

Kaj Frank Jensen、Jogen Nedergaard LARSEN、Lise Schack 等 4 位作者1984-04-01European Journal of Biochemistry

The Escherichia coli pyrC, pyrD and pyrF genes were cloned on multicopy plasmids derived from pBR322 and analysed by means of restriction endonucleases. It was found that the pyrC gene is destroyed by cutting with the restriction endonuclease BamHI, that the entire pyrD gene can be isolated on a 1300-base pairs DNA fr…

A new failure mechanism resulting in open metal bit- lines was observed during reliability testing of vendor 64k dynamic random access memory (RAIM) products using sputtered Al-Si metallurgy. Life test data, physical failure analysis, and metal film characterization are presented, The observed phenomenan is not strict…

Short-fiber-reinforced styrene–butadiene rubber composites

V. M. Murty、S. K. De1984-04-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Processing characteristics, anistropic swelling, and mechanical properties of short-jute-fiber-and short-glass-fiber-reinforced styrene–butadiene rubber (SBR) composites have been studied both in the presence and absence of carbon black. Tensile and tear fracture surfaces of the composites have been studied using scan…

Stabilization of positive charge in fluorinated ethylene propylene copolymer

Heinz von Seggern、J. E. West1984-04-01Journal of Applied Physics

Stabilization of positive charge in fluorinated ethylene propylene copolymer (Teflon FEP) is demonstrated using corona charging through a controlling grid at elevated temperatures. The extrapolated lifetime of the equivalent surface potential is 800 yr for samples charged at 150 °C and deteriorates for lower charging…

Protective dielectric coatings produced by ion-assisted deposition

Wayne G. Sainty、R. P. Netterfield、Philip J. Martin1984-04-01Applied Optics

Optically transparent dielectric films, when prepared by thermal evaporation or sputtering, have had limited use for many applications due to their permeability and lack of stability. We report on protective dielectric films produced by ion-beam-assisted deposition which demonstrate significant improvements over films…

Mark Wiggins、C. R. Aita、F.S. Hickernell1984-04-01Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A Vacuum Surfaces and Films

Thin films (∼1 μm) of boron nitride were grown on water-cooled glass, silicon, and sapphire substrates by reactive sputter deposition from a BN target in Ar, Ar/N2, and N2 discharges. The effect of sputtering gas composition on film chemical and optical behavior is reported and discussed in the present paper. The foll…

Ferroelectric and antiferroelectric properties of deuterated betaine arsenate and betaine phosphate

J. Albers、A. Klöpperpieper、H. E. Müser 等 4 位作者1984-04-01Ferroelectrics

The dielectric and thermal behaviour of deuterated betaine phosphate is similar to that of the undeuterated anti-ferroelectric material, but Tc is increased by 69 deg. In deuterated betaine arsenate, however, the low temperature phase is not ferroelectric, as in the undeuterated compound, but anti-ferroelectric.

A thermodynamic model for the compensation law and its physical significance for polymers

J.‐P. Crine1984-04-01Journal of Macromolecular Science Part B

This paper describes how the compensation law can be explained by a linear relation between the activation entropy and enthalpy of a given process in a polymer. These two variables are related by the thermal expansion coefficient and a constant approximately equal to the Rao acoustical parameter. A relation between th…

H. Winter、P. J. Durham、G. M. Stocks1984-04-01Journal of Physics F Metal Physics

Multiple scattering theory is used to obtain a local, one-electron approximation for calculating the valence-band XPS spectra of solids and the generalisation to random substitutional alloys is described. The nature of the final state and the influence of matrix elements on the shape of the spectra are discussed. The…
