Abstract Various procedures were used for extraction of Al from Ohio soils representing a wide range in extractable Al. One normal NH 4 OAc at pH 4.8 was selected as an extracting solution because of its superiority over Ba(OAc) 2 and BaCl 2 . One normal NH 4 OAc plus 0.2 N BaCl 2 was no better than NH 4 OAc alone. At…

The solubility of Al(OH) 3 was measured in NaOH and HClO 4 solutions. Possible reactions of Al(OH) 3 in dilute NaOH and HCIO 4 solutions are indicated along with the calculated constants. The amphoteric hydroxide was found to be more acidic than basic. The isoelectric point of Al(OH) 3 was determined to be pH 7.7.

Abstract A general method for describing the crystal orientation in a uniaxially oriented crystalline polymer is presented. It is shown that two orientation functions may be quantitatively evaluated from x‐ray diffraction data. The variation of these during mechanical and thermal treatment may be studied. These functi…

The refractive index of a sample of As2S3 was determined at three temperatures near 19°, 25°, and 31°C for selected wavelengths in the range 0.57 μ to 11.8 μ. A five term Sellmeier type dispersion equation was fitted to the averaged data reduced to 25°C; four of the constants were chosen to approximate an absorption c…

The internal friction of BaTiO 3 ceramics has been studied under various conditions. It depends on temperature, biasing field and vibration amplitude, but is nearly independent of frequency and porosity. It is concluded that its main part is not caused by the ceramic and domain structures but is the property of the si…

This leads to expressions for the tensile and transverse stresses in the fibres as functions of (i) the position in the yarn,…
